Kaufman Charles, Veterinarian

I am deeply grateful to Dr. Kaufman and his assistant Anthony for the outstanding care given to my 13 year old German shepherd, Roxie, during a recent emergency. I called MVU Veterinary Services of Brooklyn for the first time this past Thursday after my family and I had spent a sleepless night with Roxie, who suddenly became lethargic, had no appetite for food or water, and then could not get up. She was languishing in the same position for hours, and I could not lift her to bring her to the office. My heart was breaking for her and I felt helpless. While typically MVU does not make house calls on Thursdays and the office closes early that day, Dr. Kaufman was so kind and agreed to come to my home. He came along with his wonderful assistant, Anthony, shortly after office hours, and he performed a comprehensive examination on Roxie. Dr. Kaufman was extremely thorough with the physical exam — also taking temperature and blood. He gave Roxie a steroid injection, and then called us back within an hour to tell us the results of the blood test. She began taking the medications that Dr. Kaufman prescribed, and Roxie has fully regained her appetite and has even begun walking again. Dr. Kaufman was so compassionate that he called us on Friday and Saturday to see how Roxie was doing! This was my very first experience with MVU Veterinary Services of Brooklyn, and my entire family is so deeply appreciative to Dr. Kaufman for his empathetic and outstanding treatment of our Roxie!!! We will certainly be bringing Roxie ONLY to MVU from now on, and highly recommend them!

I’ve been using him since the 80’s. He use to travel out to Canarsie but doesn’t anymore, but I can easily get to his office. He’s good and he listens. I feel safe
with him. I use to have dogs that we rescued… now I have cats. I’m glad he’s
still around!!!

Our family has used Dr. Kaufman’s services over a time frame of 30 years and several pets. We now live on the South Shore of Staten Island, and still travel to Bensonhurst with 3 dogs in the car. Why? Because Dr. Kaufman not only is an outstanding professional — who has NEVER steered us in the wrong direction, but loves his «patients» as well. He has become a family friend as well as our loved and well trusted Veterinarian.
When I was in school, I often dreamed of becoming a Veterinarian because of my love for animals. Especially dogs and horses. At one point, I had read every book in the library on Veterinary Medicine including the pathology of it all. Having that certain inner love for animals, gravitates me towards Dr. K as well, because one can clearly see that he loves the pets as well.
Once or twice we tried going to a local vet because we are quite a distance from Dr. Kaufman’s office. Not to say that these local offices are bad, but they lacked the caring and friendliness to our pet that we are used to. They may have been a bit more affordable — but we are stuck like glue to Mobile Vet and Dr. Kaufman. We love him more than most family members! We wouldn’t think twice about going locally. When you have a good thing you don’t give it up! I hope Dr. K stays in practice for many more years to come!
Can’t forget Dr. K’s staff either. Diane has talked me through many rough times with a sick pet as has Stuart. Musn’t forget Dr. Jaffe either. They’re a great team and long may they wave!
I remember when we lost «Boopie». Dr. Kaufman knew how heartsick our family was. He called me into his office and it just so happened that he had a little puppy for adoption — who became our Rocky. I did not want to take the puppy — it was not even 24 hours after losing my precious Boopie… Dr. Kaufman paid me no mind. As I bawled, he had his staff pack the puppy in a carry all with food… and shooed me out of the office… carry-​all in hand. It is 7 years later and I have to say that his decision for me was the best! I never regret bringing my «son» Rocky home and we’ve adopted 2 more puppies to make the family complete.
You can search high and low and will never find a team like Drs. Kaufman and Jaffe.

Vets are not always animal lovers. You have to do a lot of horrible things in veterinary school — something I found out when I was considering doing this as a profession — and too often, by the time you graduate, you’ve seen too much to feel for the animals. But there are exceptions — and Dr. Kaufman is one of them. I’ve taken my cats to his office many times, and they’ve always been treated with great care and love by him and the rest of his staff. They’ve been given great consideration as living beings who feel and think, not as inanimate objects or the property of their owners.
Dr. Kaufman is also one of the very few veterinary doctors in New York who does house calls. Though house calls are a bit more expensive than office visits, they are often a godsend to pet owners — a doctor’s visit is always a stressful event both for the cat and the owner, and it can be made a lot less stressful if it’s conducted in the cat’s home, among familiar things and smells.
I’ve gone to a few other vets — some who were closer to my house and a little more convenient to get to, some that were a little cheaper. But Dr. Kaufman is my favorite vet — and I think my cats hate him the least of all the other vets too, which is saying a lot!
