I’ve gone there once… worst experience of my life. The only reason I went is because it is walking distance from the bf’s house. They could see i was a nice young lady and they tried to upsell me on items I didn’t need. They left such a bad taste in my mouth, I went to another mechanic near my home to confirm they had made up everything they told me. They obviously take advantage of women. I didn’t like the way the guys in there were looking at me either.
I can’t believe this guys steal items out of vehicle per the other reviews. ugh… can’t trust anyone it seems!
****UPDATE bf said he went by late yesterday to drop off his car (honestly, I don’t know why he still goes there other than the convenience factor) and saw signs up indicating this SpeeDee was closed for good. good riddance, the small town of castro valley certainly did not need crooks like them (based on my experience and the other reviews). I hope whomever takes it over is honest and local. I would rather support local owned and operated businesses especially ones that are walking distance.

The only reason this Speedee is still in business is because of the incredible work of Jose. I have been coming to this location for years and now commute from Oakland just because of the incredible work he does. He is thorough, efficient and honest. He is one of the kindest people and the only one I trust to take of my car.

My experience with SpeeDee:
Called and asked about getting a smog check and was told that they could do it now with no wait. Guy asked me what the year and model was and I told him 1996 Honda Accord. He said no problem. Cost would be $ 60.
I go down to the shop pull in and a guy (pretty sure it was the same guy on the phone especially since no one else was there) comes out and asks what I need. I tell him oil change and smog check. He asks what year is the car I tell him 96. He says, «Oh, smog is $ 90 + certificate cost» for that year car. Oh, and the «smog guy» is not here.
But, I just called and was told no wait, $ 60, come on in. The guy says, «they» didn’t tell you everything.
I said bye bye.

I am a bit surprised at the bad reviews. I have been coming here for about five years and always been treated well and gotten great service. Yes, things can get a bit crazy at places like this, with people coming and going all the time. I can’t say enough about Jose, he is the best. He never tries to sell all the unnecessary add ons and his mechanical knowledge is excellent. They always have a $ 5 off coupon that I can use too. I even drive over there from Dublin now.

Decent place for a quick oil change, vacuum, and tire check. These guys *were* alright.
UPDATE Feb 2015: They are gone. This place is closed. Looks like someone is trying to renovate/​reopen.

This place is great. They check everything. Let’s you know what you need to do with the car, and they are fast.

This place is TERRIBLE! No one is friendly, and they overcharged up the wazoo. The sign says $ 69.99 for a synthetic oil change, my price comes out to $ 85 and change…
Even Walmart has better service than this. Boycott this spot!

I went there for changing the front brake pads and smog check which should only take an hour or so. The tech that was supposed to do the smog forgot his license and had to drive to Hayward (only 15 minutes either way). He took an hour and a half and all the meanwhile my brakes were not even done when he got back. They charged me full price for the brake repair to only replace the pads. I was there almost three hours and they actually started to put people in front of me in the que until I had to start screaming at them. Then they informed me that I required a CHECK ONLY station, which they are not. They made me wait an hour and a half for nothing. I would never go back there again and I would advise anyone that wants to get their smog check that they go to Smog World about a mile down Castro Valley Blvd. For an oil change I would go to the small shop next to Union 76.

I should have gone to the oil change place across the street! first of all they didnt change the oil filter on my car, i know because i marked it!!! second of all they didnt fill it to the proper level. if their not paying atttention then i shouldnt be paying! why do they have a cashier if the mechanic put the money in his pocket?
next time go to expert smog.

A waited 45 minutes before they told me the smog machine was not working. Bad service and the guy was not friendly. Just said you have to come back Monday. Even though they are open on Saturday. Not helpful or seemed to care. Will never get my business again.

I went here once before 6 months ago and they were fine, charged me $ 26 for oil. I went back here today, did the oil (nothing else, no fluids check or tire check or anything) and asked for $ 37 or $ 30 in cash. I asked if they no longer are charging $ 26.
He was like «ok, ok, 26, but if you want to go to the store for cash it will be 20.»
Eventually it was around 30 but fuck it, I’m not going here again. They try to cheat you out of your money. I’ll go somewhere where the price doesn’t vastly vary based on how you look and how far they can push you.

I brought my car back here and made sure to remove all of my money from the change drawer. I also removed anything remotely valuable, and my oil change service was fine. For seven months, I did get my oil changed elsewhere (after having my coins stolen) but honestly, the service elsewhere was actually worse, so I came back.

U know what I try to keep clear of small places like this. But on my mission to find another oil changer I found this one on the other side of castro valley blvd. I walked in and was soon greeted by the owner of the business (he was on the computer I guess till the other dude came back). But he was nice the service was super fast and he gave me a special on the oil change itself. Since I now live in cv, this was b the spot from now on foward.

I saw there is a transmission flush special on their ad for around $ 80 in July. I heard that SpeeDee is good, so I decided to give it a try.
But when I went there, they first told me they had no idea about the special (?). And after knowing that I do not need other services, they told me that the «machine» is not ready yet (??) and I can come back for the transmission flush in September (???). I hope other people have better luck than me.

Just left Speedee Oil Changers on Castro Valley Blvd & I am FURIOUS! Their CROOKED employee stole my iPod out of my cupholder that I foolishly left there in plain sight! Being an honest person I didn’t even think twice about having to hide it! Of course it was completely denied & there was nothing I could do but drive away which INFURIATES me!!!
When I confronted the employees that performed the oil change and asked them both where my iPod was they were VERY aggressive and defensive and sarcastically joked about the whole ordeal! My kids were in the car witnessing the incident and were both very frightened!
I had to keep my cool since my kids were in the car but I just want to tell all to BEWARE & NEVER give them your business! SPEEDEE OIL CHANGERS ARE THIEVES!
Once I returned home I still could not shake off how upset I was so I called & spoke to the owner’s daughter which got me nowhere! She stood without a doubt by the employee’s word and would not further discuss the possibility that they MAY have stolen from me! Frustrating! I can’t prove they took it just like she can’t prove they didn’t? So now what?
NEVER USE SPEEDEE OIL CHANGE unless you want them to rummage through your belongings and RIP YOU OFF!!!

NEVER, ever ever will I use the services of Speedee again.
Here is why. I was just like all of you reading these reviews. I wanted to get the cheapest oil change in town. I printed their $ 5 off coupon, took my vehicle down to the shop, and got my oil changed. After the change, I drove it home without any problem.
The next morning, I drove down the street and jumped onto the freeway. I never made it to 65 mph.
My truck got slower and slower and began to shake and smoke. I pulled over and called the tow truck. A half hour later, and with cars whizzing by, the driver arrived. Once at my family’s mechanic, I was told that whoever changed my oil put the wrong filter on it. So all of my oil had drained out and my engine was destroyed.
I had only driven four miles.
I headed back to Speedee (my relative had to pick me up), and after a short debate with the employees at the shop, they wanted to take a look at the truck. I whole-​heartedly disagreed. Who would want to bring a broken vehicle back to the people that put the wrong filter in it in the first place?
The owner said that he would give us a call on Monday. Unfortunately, my vehicle sat at my family’s mechanic in the Fremont area for almost a week before Speedee decided to claim it. After numerous calls to Speedee corporate that didn’t seem to help much, the representative said that it was the owner of the Speedee shop’s responsibility to fix the problem.
It took almost another week to get the new engine installed. Once I got it back, I drove it around the block, and it appeared to be leaking oil AGAIN. Back to my family mechanic this time around, and the saga continues …
I will never support Speedee corporation again. «Quality» took a nose dive. And I will stress to my friends and to all who are reading this to go someplace else !!

This place is the only auto-​repair/​maintenence place I trust.
Here why:
Incident one: I have squeeking breaks– I go in, and tell them I need new breaks. I’m ready to pay whatever it costs. I come back an hour later and they say that they just needed to be rotated. They charge me $ 15. Anyone else would have taken advantage of me.
Incident Two: My car jerks forward everytime I accellerate and I spell a stange burning smell while driving it. I go in, tell them what’s going on and that I’m pretty sure it’s a transmission problem– two hours later they call me and say they found a Plastic bag stuck in my exhaust pipe. They take it out and scrape the melted plastic off. Again, I was ready to pay big bucks. How much they charge me? $ 0.
I couldn’t recommend them anymore.

Walked in dude that runs the place was watching FIFA but then again who isn’t these days… well I’m not that’s for sure.
Got in and out with in an hour for my smog check. I find these people to be quick and affordable and local.

I’ve taken my truck there for an oil change and a tune-​up, and both times they were quick, courteous, thorough, and even gave me good recommendations to other places that did service work they didn’t do themselves. The owner seemed like a really nice guy, and the gal at the register gave me a $ 10 off coupon to get my truck smogged at another garage when we realized I needed to go to a smog-​only checkpoint for my DMV registration.
I don’t know what happened with the lady who thought their oil changes were $ 19.95… all I can say is, try reading the price board posted directly over the front desk which clearly states their pricing for each service and type of vehicle.
**Added Note**
While they’ve been great with oil changes and tune ups with my vehicles, they dropped the ball on my brakes (i.e. told me they were way more worn out than they really were and screwed up my alignment when they did the front brakes, then couldn’t fix it because they aren’t set up to do alignments). They are WONDERFUL for oil changes and tune ups, but for anything harder I strongly recommend going somewhere that specializes in the repairs you need.

I’m pretty sure this place just tried to rip me off…& with my lack of mechanical knowledge, I was stuck with mere instinct. First off, I always thought oil changes at Speedee Oil changers were $ 19.95– or was that like 10 years ago? So I see one on my way home and decide to pop in for a quick CHEAP oil change… or so I thought.
It turns out oil changes here aren’t $ 19.95, they are close to $ 40.00!!! They were in the middle of it when I realized so I couldn’t turn back and next thing you know they are trying to up sell me on EVERYTHING, even the oil. They said I needed like 5 new parts in my car, and I know it was just a bunch of bull. I got away with my oil change and new windshield wipers (which I asked for. why? DON’T ASK) for a little under $ 70.00, and that was after I gave them a hard time about the price so they lowered it with a $ 5 coupon.
I could have gone to Hutch’s and received better service, a free car wash plus the new wipers for $ 50. How upsetting! I will never go back that’s a promise!
