Moose’s Barber Shop and Shave

My son said the desk guy was really nice! He said he got in the chair as soon as he got there and he was pleased with his cut! Derek was his barber nonetheless he was pleased so mom is pleased! Great job! Satisfied customer!!!

This barber shop started off very high for me and has taken a downward turn towards becoming your typically ran «young thug» barbershop.
The customer service at this barber shop is not existent. If you’re a general customer who does not have a personal barber you will be treated as a second class client. The young man who runs the desk, Luis, is a poor excuse for a representative of their company. When you’re trying to resolve and issue and his response is «grab a card and call the manager» while continuing to text is a sad excuse for a business environment. The owner should realize this is the face of his company as he is the first interaction customers have. I’ve had multiple issues with scheduling appointments only to each time be told a «new policy» exist when the week prior it did not. I would gladly follow any policies they have but to be changed on a constant basis is unprofessional.
The 2 stars is solely for the fact that they do have some stand up barbers. It’s a shame they are associated with a bunnies that is on its way down. The only reason I go to this barbershop is because of the location. I’d rather go to a super cuts than this shop.
You’ll get a decent cut, pay an outrageous price and wait all day.

My partner just went in and asked for a flat top. Each of the seven to eight young barbers in there kicking back with their legs up claimed not to know how to cut a flat top. Perplexed by this, I asked my own experienced stylist if kids entering the barbering field today are taught how to do such a cut, and he said that they are not taught anymore in barber school, but rather, in specialty classes paid for and taken after barber school is completed (I guess you could equate this to continuing education for barbers/​hairstylist who wish to advance their own skills and knowledge). Anyways, if you want a pretty boy Justin Bieber hair cut, I guess this is the place to go. If you want a man’s cut, look elsewhere for a seasoned barber.

Coming from someone who runs their own supplement store, and we run on costumer service, I went in mid-​day, there was only one person In front of me and they had 5 barbers cutting, two of them finished with their costumer and stood their on their phones just talking and looked at me numerous times. I waited over 30 mins, last thing I want to do on my only day off is just sit here and waste my day away while they stand their in their phones. I’ve been coming here since day one and I have a certain guy I go with but he wasn’t working so I tried to cruise in and ended up walking out while both of them saw me walk out and didn’t ask me anything.

I’ve been coming to this place for about 2.5 years now. I moved to San Diego (Chula Vista) and needed a regular place to get my haircut and Moose’s was a pretty new shop really close to my house so I thought I’d check it out. I’m very particular about my haircuts (I’m just weird that way and I think I have an odd-​shaped head) so I took my time to find a barber I really liked. I found a barber who knew exactly how I wanted my hair cut, so in that regard it was really great to have a place I could come once a week after work (when her schedule and my work schedule cooperated) to get a cut.
Every now and then our schedules don’t work so I’m left to either walk in without an appointment or «call in» to get my name on their list… Which is why I’m writing this review today… I always overlook the fact that almost every single time someone else cuts my hair it’s not what I ask for (some of the guys don’t understand the concept of what a low vs. high fade is, or a what a «light trim» off the top is). I would ALWAYS come back because it’s extremely convenient to my house and again, my regular barber can always fix it and hair will grow back eventually. I also overlooked the fact that they raised prices a couple months ago for no good reason, and that there’s no continuity with my barber’s schedule so it’s impossible to get into a routine…
What I can’t stand, however, is their absolutely terrible customer service! They encourage people to «call in» to get their name on the list so they can get you in at that time, but every time I do this there’s still a pretty long wait. The kids (and they really are kids) who man the front desk and the phones are really unorganized. Obviously I’ve fell victim to it a handful of times myself, but I’ve witnessed other people getting skipped over or people waiting over an hour pretty regularly when I’m there. They’re usually really friendly and welcoming when you come in (and don’t me wrong, so are the barbers), but I don’t think it’s run very efficiently and there seems to be a lack of communication between them all (and with the customers). God forbid you walk in there without an appointment and all the barbers are booked (which seems to usually be the case). You could be waiting a while.
And I understand waiting is pretty standard, especially when it’s busy, but my last experience with them was the final straw. I called in at around 6 that I’d be there at 7. Walked in at 6:55 and it became apparent the kid at the desk remembered I called but DIDN’T put my name down (this is the 3^rd time this has happened). They had stopped taking people in but he said he could squeeze me in (I could’ve left and came back the next day, that’s no big deal). I saw him talk to one of the barbers and he told me he’d take me after one person ahead of me. The kid took off early, but he even acknowledged me on his way out, so I thought I was still good even though I’d been waiting about an hour after «calling in». The barber wraps up with the guy ahead of me, and the other barbers noticing I’ve been sitting there for a while asked who/​what I was waiting for… I explained what the front desk kid told me and the barber, in a nonchalant way, said he never agreed to that and that he couldn’t take me because he had plans. I just walked out.
Again, this isn’t an isolated incident. I work in customer service so I know these things happen from time to time, but this happens WAY too often here. They’re usually on top of things when the owner is around but I know he has a lot of shops so it’s probably hard to oversee it all. It was really nice that I could send a quick text to my barber and we could schedule a cut the day of or the next day, but just out of principle I will no longer be coming here if she works at this shop. I’ve had to find a new place far from my house, but I can’t continue to support this place even though I’ve been extremely loyal as I usually am with businesses. I didn’t write this review just to complain, but to give an honest and informative opinion. I will say, the shop is always really clean, a pretty decent environment with TVs & music, most of the barbers are young hypebeasts so they’re in touch with styles/​trends I guess, but I wouldn’t recommend. They get 1 star, only because Linda is pretty cool.

I’m done with this chain. The other location totally screwed up my sons hair after he spent time growing it out… another barber noticed and gave me a coupon for my next visit. My son didn’t even want to go back so we tried another location. I call ahead to make sure I can use my coupon, ask if they’re busy and if I can make an appt to which I was told yes and asked my name. After a 45 min wait people who came after we’re going ahead so I ask and I’m told they got busy and they don’t really take appts over the phone… uh ok? So the person I spoke to must have misunderstood my question of «can I make an appt right now?». Agree with other reviews that the customer service aspect is terrible. We left went to Short Stop on Palomar n will not be back to Moose’s. We were beyond pleased with his cut there… blessing in disguise!

It took an hour to get my 11 yr old son a fade and that was without a wait. The cut looked good, but they charged $ 19. I’m only giving 3 stars because the cut looks good. Price is way too high and took too long.

I drive all the way from El Cajon to come to this spot. Friendly staff everyone is smiling. Andrew is the MAN. Takes care of me every time and I always leave with a fresh cut. HOTEST SPOT IN SAN DIEGO! Ask for Andrew hands are like a artist.

Richie did an awesome job on my 2 year old son’s Mohawk. He was very patient and kind to my son. I appreciate the time he took to perfect his haircut. My son loved his haircut. We’ll definitely be back.

Terrible customer service! My dad came in as a walk-​in they told him they would take care of him in 15 min an hour later my father was still sitting in their lobby. When we asked what was going on they said they had appointments and they came first. Appointments DO come first, But then don’t say you are taking care of customers in 15 min. without giving them any updates and leave them sitting there wondering whats going on.
And if you fall behind at least communicate with us! Long story short an hour and a half later we walked out without a haircut… Im not sure they noticed or cared

Great place that offers a modern spin on the classic barbershop. Every Barber is pretty consistent in quality, some newer guys may take they’re time but it’s all part of the process, however it can be a downside. You will get a quality cut here and you will be taken care of with that comes a bit of a higher price for a haircut. Quality over quantity

We’ve been going to Moose’s for 2 years now and right now we see Bella who does an excellent job cutting both my boys’ hair. I have a yr old and a 4yr old and we have tried to cut their hair at home but they can’t keep still and the fade doesn’t come out right. But when we met Bella, she was so patient and had such a good technique that my littlest one fell asleep. Price has gone up as they charged $ 34 for both cuts today but it still beats the prices at the specialty kid’s places and the boys get to look like little men with their grown up cuts. You can make an appointment or show up and sign in, but be forewarned that many times, if you show up and sign in, it can take upwards of 1 – 1.5 hrs. We usually just grab food at one of the nearby food places to kill time.

Decent barber shop

First thing is first, no line! You do wait a little bit but you know what a good cut is worth the wait because a good barber is hard to find. I went with Alexis and he did a really good job!

A coworker recommended this place after I complained to her that I had not liked the last few places I’ve gone to get a haircut.
I walked in to the shop and Alexis was the guy who took me. All I gotta say, is that this man knows what he’s doing! From the haircut, to the beard trimming. I told him that after taking good care of me, I would only come to him and no one else. He’s kept the amazing job consistent and never fails to to deliver. I highly recommend him, either for you grown ups, or even your kids. I’ve seen him cut some kids’s hair many times and makes me wish I had a barber like him when I was a kid!
The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5, was because they upped the prices out of nowhere… But their customer service is what keeps a customer loyal to their barbers. Thanks Alexis! And I will see you in a few weeks for my next haircut!

There needs to be a new system for running this business.
You call ahead to put your name down for a haircut but end up having to wait ONE HOUR & FORTY FIVE minutes because majority of the barbers took a lunch at the same time and when they all return, they have appointments set up with their personal clients.
Let it marinate… there has got to be a different system so that all clients can be served with the best customer service.

Got a high skin fade with a hard part from Stephanie. She asked me if the starting height on the fade was okay. I guess people seem to think that she starts too high but I would say that they aren’t aware of what a high fade is because the height was perfect. The hard part was very close and very clean.
I think my favorite part is that they use a low pressure air system as they work so you don’t walk away all ichy from the cut.
This is a great place with a great atmosphere.

The typical Eastlake business. Wanting easy money and go away eventually! Starting out good, then manages how to kill its customer service. There are a couple good barbers there. However it’s customer service completely sucks!
So we call to make sure they are not busy, so yeah they tell us they are not busy and sign us up. Ok we get there only 2 – 3 ppl ahead. So time goes by and still same amount ppl ahead and ppl getting call. So they flat out lied and forgot to tell us that only one barber would be doing walk ins and the rest have their own private appts. So basically we wasted a couple hours waiting for nothing, when a simple «All of our barbers are busy all day with APPOINTMENTS» would just do it. A little customer service goes long ways, because good barbers are in just about every corner.

This 4 star review only applies to the haircuts by Rich and Oliver, as they have done a great job with my son’t hair and I couldn’t be happier. They are professional, do a great job, and have done specifically what we asked for. However, my overall experience with the shop has been hit and miss.
We’ve had terrible haircuts from 2 of the female stylists/​barbers, unfortunately I don’t remember their names. The first one rushed through the cut and just trimmed the sides, didn’t take anything off the top. The second one took her time and tried to do a good job, but hacked up his neck with the razor so he looked like he had been attacked by Freddie Kreuger, missed spots, trimmed his eyebrows without asking, shaved his hairline around his face with a razor without asking, and just did a terrible job in general.
I’ve also noticed that there are a few barbers who are really professional and act appropriately (Rich, Manny, Bella) while the others act immaturely and unprofessionally. They come over to each other’s stations and talk while they are in the middle of giving a haircut to the point that they are obviously distracted and STOP cutting, make food orders, put horror movies on the TV with kids in the shop, and talk inappropriately in front of customers. A lot of this seems to be with the younger guys, but honestly it’s just not a good look for the shop, I feel like we are intruding on these guys’ fun time hanging out with their friends instead of in a barber shop. The shop needs a manager who will make sure that people are doing their jobs or maybe a break room where the guys could go have their inappropriate conversations and watch horror movies in.

First time here, Im real picky about my hair and a good barber is hard to come by in the Eastlake/​Otay area but to say the least I was very impressed. Got a midfade, tapered back & line up. They use razors for the line ups. Ask for Ivan, dude has skills.
