Gene is solid. He got the work done and made sure to tell me whenever an issue popped up so we could get it fixed as soon as possible. English isn’t his first language, so it can be slightly tricky understanding him at times, but for the price and professionalism, I’ll take a thick accent. The floors look great.

I was looking for someone to help me with my remodel when i was getting ready to change my floors from carpet. I gave Gene a call and could not have been happier. My experience was very informative with him. He informed me of all the different options with their benefits of different materials to use. When we decided on what i should use, they were very prompt making sure to complete their work in the time scheduled. Good Job Gene!

I was searching through Unilocal when I came across Concept Materials. Their reviews were great so I gave Gene a call. He was able to find time on my busy schedule to come by, show me samples, and gave me an estimate that I can work with. Although I had lower estimates Gene was really thorough with how the process would work and the materials they would use so I trusted him with the project. We installed bamboo in our house and the house looks really modern right now. The guys did a great job. Gene was very easy to deal with and he supervised the whole process by himself. We did not have to go shop for wood, schedule delivery or think about disposal of our old carpet. They even helped us to move the heavy furniture back. We are very happy with the service and the floor is amazing. Thanks Concept Materials!

Concept Materials returned to install hardwood floors on my second floor and staircase after I hired them to do flooring on my first floor two years ago. We wanted to keep carpet in our bedrooms at that time, so we did first floor only. Gene and his crew did a wonderful job once again. Not only they matched the hardwood for both floors, they did custom stair threads that look fantastic. Thanks a lot, Gene!

I recently hired Gene to install engineered wood floors in our new house.
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Gene and Concept Materials. an explanation for each of the 5 stars:
1) he came in at a better price than the competition
2) he was transparent and up front about all of the details of the installation and costs
3) he helped us pick the right material for the space. he educated us about the options and even had the warehouse open up the palettes of wood to show us the variation of the grain we were choosing.
4) he was patient with our questions (we had many)
5) he was flexible with his schedule to accomodate ours (we had to push the starting date of the work by over a week!)
bonus: I noticed a couple of small imperfections the day after the workers left and as soon as I mentioned it to Gene, he immediately went over and fixed every little thing at no extra cost. He takes pride in his work, which is a rare quality these days.

I recently had laminate flooring installed by Concept Materials and I am very happy with the results. Gene came by my place at a time that was convenient for me in order to gather the necessary measurements and provide answers to the questions I had. After the consultation, I ended up having to wait on the ordering of supplies and installation for quite some time. By the time I was ready to move forward, I had lost the measurements. I called Gene and he gladly came by to re-​measure the condo.
The installation was completed in a very timely fashion and the workers cleaned up after themselves thoroughly. I highly recommend this company!

We wanted to install new real hardwood floors on the second floor of our house, and on the stairs as well. We called around to several vendors, but Gene was the most helpful and knowledgeable explaining the process, what went into the quote, how the floors would be laid out, and what would be the end result.
We decided to go with Gene, and we were not disappointed. The floors look great, and the stairs also look spectacular, and not just regular hardwood, but practically custom work.
Gene was attentive and promptly resolved any issues we had. His quote was also lower than other contractors we talked to. When the time comes to put hardwood on the first floor, we know we’ll call Gene again.

We are very satisfied with the work that Concept Materials did for us. We had the entire downstairs, plus stairway fitted with hard wood floors. Gene came down and gave us a proposal for a few options. The installation was very professional and high quality. There were no surprises in the process. A few base boards broke in the process of installation. Gene was able to find replacements and even gave us some extra for the future at no extra charge. We received more than four proposals before we selected Concept Materials and we feel that we made the right choice. I would be happy to show pictures of their work if anyone was curious.

Gene and his crew did an incredible job with the installation of my new floors. They finished the job in just 2.5 days, and I am extremely happy with the results. The floors are SO beautiful!
Gene was very professional, friendly and prompt from the moment he came over for a consultation to the end of the project. I’m super impressed by how quickly the project was turned around. The price was very reasonable as well. I highly recommend Gene’s work!

This was our first time having hardwood floors installed and we had no idea where to start. We looked at some other places and were initially scared off by their prices. Then we found Gene on Unilocal,so we called him for a quote. His was the best price by far.
We found Gene to be very easy-​going and professional. He also really knows his stuff. We ended up choosing a beautiful exotic hardwood, Santos Mahogany. All work was done exactly as discussed and promised. We absolutely love our new floors. Thank you, Gene!

They did well with the flat floors. They had much trouble with the stairs and left unfilled holes in the floor where the banister is and left sheetrock destroyed putting in the stairs. They asked for more money after their bid for the stairs. I willingly agreed as I knew from other bids that the stairs would be difficult. The disappointment was the reviews on Unilocal that lead me to Concept. Nice people but I realize that I did no know enough to write a detailed agreement. The agreement I wrote was signed a day before they began their work. They had to return 3 times to install the obvious, like molding and strips and the tracks for the closet doors.

Concept materials installed my floors in March 2009 to less than stellar results (see previous post). After seeing my Unilocal,the situation was remedied.
HOWEVER, several months later the floor started to buckle. A housing inspector told us the floor was installed too tightly and that the contractor should do right by us. I called Gene at concept materials and he continuously told me that the inspector was wrong. He told me to order many more boxes of flooring because I had water damage.
I thought this was fishy so I had a new contractor come in to take a look. Not only did they agree with the inspector that it was improperly installed by concept materials, they fixed it on the spot. I did not have to order more floors nor was it a water problem.
Concept Materials is a huge disappointment and I felt scammed because they hire grunts to do the actual work.

Gene and his team did fantastic work at our condo this week! Right off the bat Gene was very accommodating and was able to bring us samples and gave us a quote very quickly, with specific amounts tied to labor and each material used. It was very helpful in deciding what we wanted to do. They delivered the flooring at our convenience (FOR FREE!) and installed on our schedule. The quality of their work is great, and after they finished they were able to come back in right away to tweak a couple things that needed attention.
Our floors are beautiful, and I really appreciated working with someone who was so accommodating and just a nice person. All the guys he has working with him are just as nice as he is. We are thrilled with our new floors!

Although we did not use the services provided by Gene at Concept Materials, I wanted to post a review anyway.
Of the four companies we received bids from, Gene was the only person who provided an estimate the same day. He arrived on time, had a warm personality, and was very helpful in answering our questions. When my wife and I told him that we were interested in Maple, he recommended Canadian Maple as he whipped out his cell phone and called his supplier on speaker phone in our presence.
We liked the transparency of this action as we knew exactly what the material costs would be. When asked about his labor rate, Gene broke down the total costs of the project so that we could understand his pricing. He even offered to go to Calwood (
) with us to purchase the Canadian Maple flooring. In addition, he told us that he would deliver the wood to the house as part of the job.
I would definitely recommend receiving a bid from Gene.
(In case you’re curious why we did not end up using Gene, we ended up using a referral from a family friend).
