If you live in San Diego county & own a samurai this place is a must. Gary & his team have mastered the Samurai motor, suspension & just about anything else you could want to improve. Petroworks has been the leader in Suzuki mods from the very beginning.

I just can’t say enough about Gary and Petroworks. I have a 1987 samurai and it needed some work. What kind I wasn’t sure. Gary fixed it up and now it’s running like a champ. It turned out to be a bunch of little things and not what one place I went to first said was wrong. I’m so happy with Gary and his crew at Petroworks. I can’t say enough how honest and the quality of work you’ll get when you use Petroworks.

Petroworks deals with Suzuki’s, that’s what they do, it’s their «niche.» I had been looking to buy a Suzuki Samurai for many months, to use as a «toad» (tow behind RV) vehicle and as a daily driver for my short local drives. As I did my research and shopping on line (craigslist & ebay), I kept running across the name, «Petroworks,» as a a highly reputable shop for stock and upgrade mechanical work, as well as the seller of custom fabricated parts that they have machined for drive lines, suspensions, transmissions, etc, etc. Also as a vendor for many after market as well as OEM parts. Finally, I called them just to see if maybe they had a vehicle for sale, or a lead on a good vehicle. They didn’t. Months went by as I test drove several, almost made 2 purchases (1 an ebay scam, the other wouldn’t pass smog). Finally I called Petroworks again and this time Dave was aware of a very clean, almost stock, ‘88JX that wasn’t for sale yet, but the owner was about to list it. Dave got me in contact with the owner, and we did the transaction. It was a great buy, as I’ve seen many rigs of similar condition listed for around $ 2000. more. However it was an Arizona vehicle and not CARB compliant, with a great CV carburetor on it and the associated non-​stock manifold that is a Petroworks product. Petroworks had done the wrenching. Gary at Petroworks assured me he could do the carburetor work so I could get it CA smogged. He said he’s buy back the custom manifold and the CV carburetor against the cost of the work. I also needed to have tow bar mount plates installed and tow lights hard wired in. I opted to have Gary make an easy customization on the door hinges to make them easily removable. I’ve seen custom billet hinges on ebay that make the doors removable for about $ 300. Gary customized my stock hinges for a small fraction of that. Being new to the Suzuki Samurai world, and new to flat towing, I had a lot of questions for Gary about various after market parts, upgrades, and customizations. From our initial contact and throughout our business, Gary has insisted that I not buy things, or make upgrades that I don’t really need. He says things like, «You don’t need that, and here’s why…» Or, «I can show you a real easy way to do that yourself, unless you really want to spend your money.» This is almost unheard of customer service policy in todays market. And it goes a long way in explaining the references to, and positive comments about Petroworks I have seen on sites like ebay, craigslist, izook, zukiworld, and zukinovations. Gary ended up crediting me back more than I expected for the CV and manifold. He not only made it CARB compliant, but he got it smogged for me too! I had not asked him to do that, but he said he was «covering his own ass» too by doing that, and I of course paid for it as I had to do it anyways. Last thing I want to mention is about the front bumper. In doing my research for tow bar mount plates, I was trying to identify the custom front winch bumper because I figured the manufacture may offer a mount. I decided it looked most like the calmini bumper. But it turned out that Petroworks had custom fabbed it in their shop. It’s a piece of art work as far as welding and fabrication goes. I had a quote from Temecula RV of between $ 1600 and $ 2200 for front mount plates and tow bar. Gary set me up tow bar equipped and lights for less than 20% of that quote. It’s not real fancy, but it’s super clean work, it’s bullet proof strong, and he didn’t sell me crap that I didn’t need. I will never go anywhere else for my after market parts and wrenching. If Petroworks doesn’t sell it, I probably don’t need it.
