History

Established in 1955.

In 1955, Paul & Jean Witt moved to Gettysburg and purchased the Green Gables Cabins. The 10 cabins were in poor condition but their location, steps away from Pickets Charge & Cemetery Ridge– where Abraham Lincoln gave his famed Gettysburg Address– was good. The cabins were moved off site and the 32 unit Gettysburg Motor Lodge, the first modern motel in Gettysburg, was built in their place. During the next 10 years the motel expanded to its present size of 109 guest rooms.

In 1973, Paul & Jean’s son, Paul Jr., joined the family business full time after attending Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and is celebrating his 40th year as the general manager in 2013.

Also in 2013, Paul Jr. and his wife Dana’s daughter, Laura; in addition to Nathan Mares, joined the business– now in its third generation of being a family and locally owned and operated hotel business.

Great location. Awesome that it has a pool. There’s NO first aide kit at the pool. When we pulled up someone was on the side of the pool laid out waiting for an ambulance. A manager ran by asking if anyone knew CPR! 1) Managers and staff should know CPR and 2) there should be a first aide kit readily available with a barrier mask for CPR!!!
There was what looked like blood on one of the pool chairs
The front lobby smells of mold and mildew, very musty.
Our room, even though it was non smoking remakes of smoke and even weed one night when we got back.
All the vents are caked with dust and cob webs
The quilt had a dirt stain and blood stain on it.
It just had a dirty feel to it.
The staff was pleasant and breakfast was decent.

Great hotel. Everything you could want. Definitely not a fancy place, but is clean, neat and friendly. Great price compared to others in the area. Indoor and outdoor pool which is nice in case the weather is bad. Will definitely be back

The room I stayed in was huge, 3 nice size beds. My bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is divided into 2 sections with the sinks outside of the toilet/​shower part, so if you need a sink while someone is showering you can use it. Tv is nice, looks brand new. Small fridge, small microwave and coffee maker. Plenty of towels. My biggest grip would be the air conditioning. Coming from a ways north of here we like it cool while we sleep. The thermostat only allows it to go down to 68. I know energy wise that’s the optimal temp for most but not this family. Overall very clean, very large and comfortable.

I have made almost annual trips to Gettysburg and always stay here. This is an older facility – known for many years as the Gettysburg Motor Lodge. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and prices relatively inexpensive. The free hot breakfast is normal for motels, and the pools are excellent, particularly the indoor pool that is toasty warm in the coldest weather. Most important for those who come to visit the battlefield, it’s adjacent to some of the most important parts, including the Angle (where Pickett’s Charge was repulsed), Cemetery Hill and the National Cemetery. Many eating places are in walking distance, from McDonalds to the Dobbin House. For me this is the place to stay in Gettysburg.

Basic rooms for a good price. Wish there was a fridge. Indoor/​outdoor pool, hot tub, and breakfast included. Been staying here for 20 years now. Right next to the historical cemetery and visitors center as well as close to downtown! Also a mine — themed saloon next to the breakfast cottage! Would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a reliable place to stay but you’re not a hotel snob :)

Great hotel for the price. A cheap hotel with cheap beds and amenities. But it DOES have all the amenities you need. It’s very clean, and all the staff are courteous and patient. The free breakfast cottage is a plus, despite having the same food every day.
A major problem with the hotel are that the beds are pretty uncomfortable, but it’s better than sleeping on the ground or a couch. The other problem is that despite the fact that most if not all of the hotel is smoke free, people are still allowed to smoke on the balconies of the second floor rooms, so we had to deal with cigarette smoke coming through almost every day of our four night stay.
Overall I was pleased with the hotel, and recommend it for an affordable stay in this great town.

Old school, but clean. The room could be better lit, and there is no fridge. But the location is great, the staff was polite, and the outdoor pool was lovely! (Indoor pool for colder months)
This hotel is close to everything we wanted, as well as walking distance to Kings Pizza, and General Pickett’s Buffet, out fave places to eat.
We will definitely stay here again.

Great hotel just a stone throw away from Hancock Avenue where the union defenders repelled the confederates during Pickets Charge. I’ve stayed at this hotel 3 times in the past three years and it’s always a pleasure to return. The 2 double bed rooms face the pool while the 1 king bed rooms face Steinwehr Avenue. The outside pool is really great but extremely cold. The gym has really old equipment but a workout is doable. Weather permitting I suggest you buy a self guided tour map at the front desk, buy some water at the gas station across the street, and tour the battlefield on foot. Their bar the «Reliance Mine Saloon» is boredom central. If you like beer I suggest you walk two blocks to Tommy’s Pizza. They have a great selection of tap and bottled beers and it’s cheap. The hotel has a fair continental breakfast, but if you want a good breakfast I suggest you go to the Avenue Restaurant just a five block walk from the hotel.

Nice hotel. Comfortable rooms. The staff is courteous. They have a cute breakfast cottage. The only drawback is there is not much selection at the morning buffet. No waffle maker, French toast or pancake options. Not enough seating if busy. Food was fresh and hot. No potatoes.

This is an older hotel but is very clean. It is within walking distance of restaurants and souvenir shops. About a 10 minute drive to the outlets. This was the first year we’ve stayed here and it was hot. The air-​conditioner didn’t work. They sent someone to look at it and he said that it was new and should be working fine. It wasn’t. We were only staying for 2 nights so we just dealt with it.

Extremely satisfied. Hotel staff is extremely nice. Lots of stuff to do in walking distance or even a short drive. If 21+ the saloon bar at the hotel is very nice. At least one pool is open all year round so there is no need to forget your swim suit.

Clean, great friendly trust worthy staff! I have stayed here at least twice in the last 4 years. The nicer rooms are worth the price and thejacuzzi tub is nice to soak in after a long day’s walk through the park. I recommend the quality inn to anyone and everyone. The breakfast is kinda cheesy though you have a better bet to go and get breakfast from the diner or one of the small shops in town even Friendly’s is a good way to go!

On our first visit to Gettysburg we were unsure where to stay so we rolled the dice and decided to try this hotel. As we approached the hotel, we saw fields with memorials dotting the sides. We came to understand this area was where the Day 1 fighting took place. The hotel is actually where Lee had his headquarters.
It was clean and comfortable. The bathroom used the space they had very efficiently. The owners were friendly and helpful and answered all our questions. The dining area was clean and kept up even with a full house. We would definitely stay here again. While outside of town, it was an easy drive into Gettysburg proper & to the park headquarters.
