Float Lab – Westwood

Total disappointment. Even with the ear plugs in I could still hear the whirring, humming sound of machinery and other noises like doors closing, etc. And I was cold. I tried to stay in because I really wanted to have the sensory deprivation experience everyone talks about. But all I could think was, I’m cold and I thought this would be true sensory deprivation. It wasn’t.
And no one cared. I came out of the tank after about 25 – 30 minutes (the appointment is for 2 hours), showered, and went to wait in the lobby for my friend. I told the guy working there that it was too cold for me and he said, next time, tell them you want it «toasty.»
There will be no next time. No coupon, no partial refund, no sympathy, no nothing. I paid 40 dollars to take a cold bath and a hot shower. Boo!
One more tip: Bring your own shampoo and conditioner unless you want to deal with a tangled mess.

5 Stars for Float Lab. 2 Star for the Experience
I must insist that if you want to float or experience the isolation tank, there is nothing better than Float Lab. It’s possibly the most sophisticated environment for this kind of New Age thing. However, like any review I have a qualm about floating itself, NOT Float Lab. It may be harsh to put this in the place of a review of a location, but I believe prospective first timers need to know about the experience.
The Float room is equipped with a small shower and a sizable square encapsulated area where the floating occurs. It is a little bizarre to enter the float room and be welcomed by complete silence, sensory-​deprivation, and total darkness. The water is up to half-​knee-​level. You have 2 hours to lay down in this environment, float from side to side like a carcass on the surface of the sea.
This experience is soothing, but for the life of me, I don’t find it anymore soothing than any other similar experience. A good swim, a dip in the Jacuzzi, five minutes in the sauna, meditating on the beach and many other similar water-​related activities are of the same relaxing quality. In other words, this is not a uniquely relaxing opportunity. As expected it is relaxing. You are sitting in lukewarm water, deprived of all exterior stimuli. How could you not be relaxed? But at $ 40 per session, it is too expensive a hobby to really commit too. With that money, you could have a monthly gym membership with the same relaxing qualities.
I’m leaning towards a lower review, but in the sea of 5-​Star reviews I’ll admit maybe it’s just me. Maybe I needed some nuclear, mind-​shattering weed to make me zone out and connect with the Float Gods. Possibly some stronger hallucinogens would have made me go all Joe Rogan on floating. I just didn’t get it.
One odd note: I ate some fast food before coming to this place and used the cheap McDonalds toilet paper to take care of business. That float Lab Epsom salt was burning my ass like I was sitting bare-​naked on an Ant colony. I don’t what anyone can take from this, but I thought it pertinent to mention.

I had a slight idea of what «floating» was about but wanted to experience it myself. So here’s my review of the location.
When you walk in it is very clean and very inviting. There are comfy couches to sit at while you wait for your appointment. When you first find the building it is kind of strange because it’s an empty building. I walked by it twice until I noticed the piece of paper telling me to call the phone number to have the door opened to enter into the building. Then go into the elevator and take it down to «B for Bravo/​Banana/​Brontosaurus». I didn’t catch his name but he was very nice. The clock in the corner was pretty awesome. Once you walk into the hallway after you get your tutorial you see 7 rooms and 7 chairs lined up right next to the doors. I felt like an astronaut ready to go to the moon. I chose my room and walked in. Once again VERY clean and inviting. Qtips at your disposal!!! you get your own tank and your own shower.
The way that everything is already paid for before you go in is pretty awesome. You walk in not having to worry about any paperwork or any payment. And after you’re done you don’t have to worry about being rushed or forced to leaving. You get to go at your own pace. Once I walked out I got the stairs to the rear exit was right in front of me.
Overall great experience and really nice guy which reading the previous reviews on the side was «Crash»? That was the owner!!! WOW I was talking to the owner and didn’t even know it. He didn’t act like a successful los angeles A-​hole. THANKS FLOAT LAB for letting me be your lab rat.

Float Labs are legit, clean, and consistently private. I’ve been floating since Venice location and i have to say Westwood is the evolution of what a great float facility looks like. Krash is the man, always keeping a good energy. If you’ve never floated Float Labs are the only place to start.

I did my first ever float on Tuesday, and it was the most intensely relaxing experience that I’ve ever had. I came out of the tank feeling so refreshed and invigorated.
Parking is available in the public garage at 1036 Broxton, which is on the other side of the block. You get two hours of parking for free, then afterwards it’s $ 1.50 per 20 minutes, up to $ 9 max. Then you can walk around the block to the Float Lab entrance, and use the intercom to get buzzed in. There’s an industrial-​looking elevator which you take down.
The reception lobby is very nice; modern décor, everything looks brand-​new. There are two couches to sit on, with dim, but relaxing lighting to set the mood for your float experience. Laminated handouts are on the tables, detailing the tanks’ filtration system.
The owner, Crash, is there to give you the rundown on procedures. If you’ve seen the Vice documentary on float tanks (can be found on YouTube), or Joe Rogan’s podcast with Crash, he’s exactly the same in real life. Very unique dude.
You’re then led to your room, which, just like the rest of the Float Lab, is equipped with brand new equipment and furnishings. There’s a chair & table, shower, and door to the actual float tank. Once you take your shower, you’re free to float in the tank until your two hours is up.
You’ll know when your session is done when they knock on the back of the tank, opposite from the door. They knock from behind the equipment, they don’t go into your room at all. You have a lock on the door, so you know your belongings are safe and no one’s going to walk in on you naked while showering.
Overall my first float was super relaxing. It took me a while to get used to floating, but once you can manage to get completely still and not bump into the sides of the tank, it’s pure bliss.
One thing I recommend is to empty out your bladder as much as possible before your float, multiple times if you can. An hour before, half an hour before, immediately before, whatever it takes. Don’t drink any fluids 1 – 2 hours before your float time. I had to pee for the last half-​hour of my float, so I was fairly distracted by my bladder for that part of my session.
I had my float session in the morning, and afterwards I felt completely relaxed for the entire day. $ 40 for two hours is the best price you can find in the city, and I’ll definitely be back.

Finally after five years I was able to float! I’ve been trying to get in these tanks for a while but unfortunately everytime I’d make an appointment something came up or they were booked in Venice (this was before the Westwood location opened).
As soon as you walk in Crash is there. I didn’t get to speak much with him because I was late (make sure to be there early) and gave us the run down on. the sanitation and a few tips on floating.
The place feels very zen and very conferting. Crash showed us to our private rooms which includes shower, towels, qtip, shampoo, ear plugs and etc.
I entered the tank and closed the door, laid down and the rest was pure bliss! At times I wasn’t sure if I was a awake or dreaming. I couldn’t tell if my eyes were open or closed and you hear NOTHING!
Once I was done, I was just taken over by an overwhelming feeling of relaxation throughout the day. This is the experience everyone should try. I will be getting one of these installed in my own home one day and I will be revisiting this place often!

After floating for 2 hours I walked away like a wet noodle.
I had heard about the Float Lab so when the opportunity came up I decided to go for it.
I walked in and met «Crash» — the owner, very interesting unique insane person a mix of Mad scientist /​Mad Doctor /​Mad Professor evil genius with fictional technology at his «float lab»
He gave me a tour of the lab and informed me how the process of disinfection filtration purification if I recall correctly he said 99.9% or greater per cleaning cycle with no chemicals
But with all that said he’s a genius by coming out with this concept
Crash was very friendly and informative!
It was very relaxing, I completely disconnected from stress and went to a very Zen world floating in water
One of the best ways to relax with absolutely no distractions from the outside world no phones, no outside noise, complete tranquility
You will have your own private room with a shower, towels, earplugs. Soap shampoo and conditioner are provided.
Bring a comb or hair brush and moisturizer if you feel like.
Strongly recommend life experience or experiment haha

It has finally opened! Went to my first session at this location and loved it!
The facility has 7 tanks and appointments can be booked online with a credit card! It’s super clean, they provide the same organic shampoo, conditioner, and body wash as they do at the Venice location.
I love floating b/​c day to day, we are constantly taking in so much stimulation that it’s great to take a break from it all and focus on what’s going on upstairs. I always describe it to people like defragmenting your brain so that you can operate more optimally.
This is how I felt:

Morpheus: «Because you’ve never used them before.»
Most are put off by it b/​c they’ll feel claustrophobic but the tank is pretty large and total darkness gives you no frame of reference = infinite space; in fact, you should feel TINYYYY.
It’s definitely worth a try, it’s only $ 40 for 2 hours and you can get out whenever you feel like it!
