Twist By Oliver Ifergan – Downtown

The stylist was nice and friendly, but the service was pretty disappointing and I won’t go back.
The cut was very rushed; over in 20 minutes and I have really long thick hair.
I didn’t want any radical change — just shorter and thinned out a bit. Instead I got way shorter with lots of really choppy lairs. You expect stylists to take more off the length than they say they will, but the lairs were a really dramatic change that I didn’t ask for and she didn’t run by me.
It looked OK when she blow-​dried it straight (though not a style I would have wanted — full on top and thinner as it goes down), but I made it clear that my hair is wavy/​curly and I never straighten it. The short bits on top really don’t work on my thick wavy hair.
The stylist said I could come back if I wasn’t happy with it after I’d washed it, but there’s not much point. She can’t make the short bits longer after all.

This Hair Salon is with no doubt the best from downtown, it is trendy, the stylists are all great in what they do, and just found out that the have manis and pedis wednesdays and thursdays.
Their productos are amazing as well, they organic, made in California, no parebeen, no sulphate… I recommend using them, my hair has its life back. They made my hair color very natural and understood exactly what I needed.

They have a great deal for the Keratin treatment. My hair feels sexy and healthy at the same time.

I don’t even want to explain the entire long story as to why this place is the worst place Ive ever been as far salons. So short version is the employees don’t know their own products and they can’t keep appt times. Don’t waste your time.

I came in about 20 minutes before closing and they were able to squeeze me in that day. I was just curious about this salon and my friend recommended Emma to me. She was great! Very sweet and friendly. Loved the shampooing session and getting my hair cut from her was therapeutic. Thanks so much Emma!

Angela is everything amazing that is already said about her on here :-)!! Two days ago I had a freak out over my over dyed and damaged hair and need a cut fast! I turned to Unilocal as I usually so for most my new ventures and found the reviews for Twist and Angela. I just came from my hair cut and I absolutely love it! She absolutely listens and knows how to cut hair perfectly. She is also very knowledgable about color. All of the ladies at the salon are so sweet and professional. Huge find for me! I will be back!

When I was living in Downtown LA I loved coming here to this Salon to get my hair done. Melissa is so amazing and super sweet! I would recommend her to anyone. She got my hair from blonde to brunette then after change my hair to an ombré and every time my hair looked so amazing. No matter how dramatically I would want to change it Melissa was always up for it and always did fantastic job and made my hair look beautiful. If you want someone to listen to you and do an amazing job… pick Melissa, you won’t be disappoint.

This review is for Angela specifically. I highly recommend the ladies of LA checking her out at Twist by Oliver-she’s really gifted at what she does. Angela did my hair in New York I am seriously sad she’s gone-​but you lucky LA ladies get to reap the benefits! What I really love about Angela as a hairstylist is she follows your instructions, but always gives you an even better idea of what you originally wanted. She’s quick and efficient but always pleasant with her clients. There’s a reason there are so many reviews for her on here-she’s really a gem.
The salon is nice as well. I like bumble and bumble products, but they also carry their own line which would be great to try. I liked the simple yet bright and clean overall feel to the place. I don’t live in LA (but I love to visit!) and it seems as though its very accessible to those who work in downtown LA.
I’m ridiculously picky about my hair. I’m not one to be afraid to tell a stylist if I don’t like what they have done. I know what I want. If you’re someone who wants your hair done right and wants to look great every time, Angela is who you want to see.

Angela is amazing! I color my hair red and am always seeking a good colorist. She gave me absolutely the best color I’ve had, she put a gloss on it that brought out the red in a way that I’d never had before, made it more vibrant and extra shiny! She is such a sweetheart, makes sure you’re comfortable and having a good time. I’ve only been to the downtown location, which is great, there is parking underneath the building, it was only a 20 minute walk from one of the Metro stations also. Every time I walk out, I literally feel like I’m in a hair commercial, Angela is fantastic, I highly recommend her!

She is an awesome stylist. You feel so comfortable with her, and she does exactly what you ask for. She’s a keeper!

Melissa is the best! We went through a whole journey together taking out some extremly bad tape-​extentions, putting in new extentions and coloring my hair. It was a hair-​crisis, and she understood that! She even spent the whole night with me in the salon, literally, it was 2 a. m before we decided to go home and get back to it in the morning. That’s what I call service.
We spent hours doing my hair, and she would always remind me that I can come back when we’re done if something doesn’t feel right or if I wanna change something.
But my hair looks great, nothing I want to change, and I had a great experience! Melissa is very talented, and super sweet.

I totally recommend Melissa! I met her in a nail salon and noticed how pretty her hair was. Being from out of town I was in desperate need of highlights. Melissa offered that I come in the next day! She did a great job!

Love this Salon! I’ve been here for cuts, color and extensions. I agree with all of the positive reviews below regarding pricing and convenience. In addition, I’d like to highlight two stylists:
1. Melissa is wonderful — she listens carefully to what the client wants, uses the best products, and cares about the condition of your hair overall — not just the short-​term look. My hair is super curly and she did a great job on the color, the cut and my EXTENSIONS! As a newbie to extensions, she walked me through the process and helped me find the right style for someone starting out (instead of just selling me on the most expensive style). She will work with you if you want to experiment and try new things, and she’s great company as well! :)
2. Angela is also fantastic! I was nervous about letting someone new cut my curly hair and Angela was extra careful. She’s very easy going and has a calm manner that is very reassuring.

I’ve been going to see Peter for about a year now. I’m usually able to call and book last minute during the middle of the week. I’ve only been on week days in the late afternoons and it’s quiet, which I like.
They’ve also did my updo for the oscars last year and I was pleased with the results!

Best place to get a hair cut, best hair stylist
I was looking for a good hair stylist for long time till I find this place. I was so happy with my hair. Best customer service experience, (Farah) was very helpful she make sure my haircut came the way I want it. No surprise and top notch quality. Definitely come back just for her and definitely recommend Farah to anyone. I love it all the way.

Love this place. I generally go to Farah. She takes her time explaining things and makes sure I am comfortable every step of the way. I purchase most of my hair care products from their front desk per her recommendations. All in all I am impressed with the service and quality.

I am a dtla resident and love Twist for the following reasons:
1. Peter and Angela always do a nice job on my hair
2. close enough to walk to, parking is validated if I am in a hurry
3. they are on lifebooker and you can schedule and change appts online. no need to call a receptionist and wait for them to go thru the calendar with you to find a date.
4. prices are affordable
5. I can usually get in if I book last minute

I came here with a Lifebooker deal a few months ago for a keratin treatment. I originally left a review on Lifebooker, but discovered that it has mysteriously disappeared so I decided to leave one on Unilocal as well.
First of all, they really need to fix their booking system because I showed up 5 minutes before my appointment and ultimately had to wait 55 minutes before anyone worked on my hair. It was a weekend, so I didn’t have anything I needed to rush to, but it’s very frustrating to have to wait this long when I had made an appointment.
Second, I don’t think the keratin treatment was properly applied. The stylist strangely focused heavily on putting the treatment on my roots, instead of the tips of my hair. Now, as I understand it, the whole purpose of a keratin treatment is to repair dry and broken hair. It’s thus bizarre to me that the stylist would skimp on the product on the hair ends…
Third, the keratin treatment I received was very painful. The stylist used an extremely powerful hairdryer to dry the keratin treatment, and repeatedly burned my scalp by pointing the air directly down towards my head. I complained several times, but it kept happening over and over again. He seemed inexperienced at the entire process, and even asked me at one point, «what’s the point of a keratin treatment?»
Finally, I followed all the care instructions, didn’t wash my hair until about 60 hours after the treatment, and found that there was no change in my hair quality whatsoever. The immediate results afterwards looked ok, very shiny, but this was largely the result of having my hair flat ironed for 45 minutes, and not because the keratin was effective. I have moderately fine and pliable hair, so I do not think my hair texture was a factor in the failure of the treatment.

I just had an incredible experience here yesterday with the amazing Angela!
I came in with an appointment for a haircut and blowout from Lifebooker. My hair was a MESS — rooty, ratty, insane split ends, etc. Angela didn’t stress out about the sad state of my hair, but instead worked out a plan with me — we decided together to do partial highlights + lowlights, a stylish trim, and a blowout.
She did a PERFECT job! I haven’t been this happy with a hair appointment for a VERY long time — and believe me, here — the price is RIGHT.
