I love that we have this place to get fresh food for a great price and outstanding service in Modesto. Everything has been said about their breakfast items, and they’re all true and delicious, the omelettes are huge and full of fresh veggies and meats. Recently I’ve been there for lunch and they didn’t disappoint, everything tastes amazing just the kind of food you want when you’re in the mood for fresh, good portions and healthy. Check out my pic of the Greek salad, I opted to add a piece of grilled salmon it was so good and the dressing on the side even other people in the dining room were asking what it was. The service is great the staff are always fresh faced and cheerful.

How disappointing, my stomach is literally turning. Tried this place for the first time and all I can say is why did I go ahead and order after seeing the inside of this place? It looked an old dirty diner. I ordered the chicken and mushroom pasta. I couldn’t even eat it. The chicken tasted like an old chicken breast cooked a few days ago that was taken out of the fridge to add to my pasta, it was sliced in thin slices like potato chips and the mushrooms tasted like they were on the verge of spoiling. Who prepares pasta like that? They should’ve cut up a fresh raw chicken breast and sauteed it with fresh mushrooms! Not use day or two old chicken. Obviously the cook is inexperienced. My husband’s cod was«fish sticks» not pieces of fish. This place was a total waste of money. I’m only giving it one star because at least the waitress was pleasant.

Very good food. Average portions with slightly high prices for the quantity although it is very good food. Great ice cream/desserts Nice environment My main gripe is when the cook cleans the grill every 45 minutes or so with water and a burnt smell goes throughout the entire restaurant and kind of kills the other wonderful aromas from the good food. Very weird that they don’t have a better alternative — kitchen fans, block off the grill from seating, etc.

Best velvet creamery there is. I ordered the very hungry hobo. My man ordered hobo with salmon. We both thought it was delicious ! Loved it. Portions are huge, had a ton of leftovers. I went to McHenry location ordered same thing it was nasty. I didn’t eat. This is the best location. Try the hobo you won’t be disappointed. Stay away from McHenry location and go to Dale. Big difference.

Awesome food! Was a little iffy with the look of the restaurant, but it definitely lived up to the Unilocal reviews! I had the patty melt, my husband had the hot turkey sandwich, our kids had the spaghetti and the corn dog. Everything was fabulous and homemade tasting. Then came dessert! The kids loved the bubblegum and Oreo ice cream cones and my husband and I split a brownie hot fudge Sunday-beware-it is HUGE. Truthfully, it could have fed all 5 of us. It was delicious-I felt bad for not finishing it.

I absolutely love this place for breakfast… I come here often… I have come to the realization that coffee is $ 3.19 for a small cup — yes you get free refills — that’s not the point… I wonder if they fly to Ethiopia everyday to pick the beans fresh… I’m just sayin… Lol

It wasn’t my choice to come here. I’m always happy at Mimi’s across the street for breakfast. But when the woman that gave birth to you says that this is where she wants to have breakfast, then this is where you have breakfast. The space itself is very nondescript. Some booths, some tables, a small case displaying ice cream. That’s it, folks. Zero frills. But I’m okay w that. So long as there’s really good food in the house, that is. My expectations were not high. So when I tasted the pancakes that turned out to be fantastic, I was pretty, & happily, surprised. They make their pancakes w oatmeal. Sounds über healthy, I know. And not in the good way, right? But, I can assure you that these pancakes didn’t taste healthy at all. They were bomb. The best pancakes I’ve had in ages. Old school pancakes perfectly cooked. Fluffy & light. They didn’t even need syrup. Spread some butter on them & you’re good to go! They would be fantastic w jam. They reminded me of the pancakes my aunt used to make when I had sleepovers w my cousin as a kid. Maybe she used oatmeal?! Who knew? I ordered the short stack, & thank god I did because a full stack would have put me in a coma. The 2 huge & fabulous pancakes were more than enough. They were so good that I ate more than I intended. The best sign, right? I can’t order pancakes without ordering a side of protein. I went w bacon. I truly love bacon, but this bacon was rather gamey. I’ll skip it next time & go for eggs or sausage instead. My favorite pancakes in Motown now. Sorry, not sorry, Mimi’s. And I had a foodgasm just reading their sundae menu. We specifically came in for breakfast, & I had already ordered breakfast. But dammit, I could have totally had a sundae for breakfast, right? I’m actually thinking about doing that for real sometime. MAJOR props for having dairy free creamer. No one else around here does. It took way longer than it should have for us to be seated. There were several empty tables, but they all needed to be bussed. Once we got a table though, it was all good. Our server was a doll. 4 stars.

Order a breakfast omlet, as well as club sandwhich. Service was polite, quick, and the food was tasty. I will be back again.

Velvet Creamery is a wonderful place to eat. I’ve had most of the items on the breakfast and lunch menu over the years, and it’s all been great! The service is awesome! I would recommend this restaurant and have many times.

Worst service ever. I was a party of 7 that showed up a good 15 minutes before a party of 9. And the party of 9 got sat before us at a table that clearly coulda been used for us. I then waited another 45 minutes because it incompetent host said they had a table for us, only to just walk out pissed off and hungry after waiting for a total on and hour and ten minutes. Thank you for ruining a breakfast outing with my family. Instead of my children having a nice breakfast with their grandparents, they had to walk next door to Wendy’s to eat because grandpa has to eat by a certain time to take his medications. Just because some prim madonnas walk in and demand a table, doesn’t mean you look past the family that is patiently waiting and basically act like we don’t matter.

We are regulars at Velvet Grill. My business partner and I go here once a week for our weekly business meeting. We have been going weekly for nearly a year and a half and don’t intend to stop any time soon. We eat breakfast and actually switched to Velvet from our normal Mimis weekly breakfasts due to the ever rising costs of a simple breakfast at Mimis Café. Ours went from 8 to over 12 within 2 years. Velvet has standard diner prices and standard diner food. Their pancakes are my favorite in town. I love that they add oatmeal to them. I also love the coffee they use. They brew Milone Bros Coffee, from a local coffee company and I love it. It has a smooth rich taste, without being overly bitter like many diner brews. The service is good and because we are regulars most of the staff knows our coffee preference and has made an attempt to memorize our usual order. If you’re looking for traditional diner food at reasonable pricing with good service, Velvet is the place to go.

Tried the ice cream. They let you try samples. Great home made flavor with a variety of flavors. I had the cookie dough– it had a lot of chocolate chips in it. Get that if you have a sweet tooth. Lemon custard, strawberry, and mint were good too.

Having grown up in Modesto, this restaurant is a nostalgic place for me. Thankfully, it remains a great place to dine when I make my way back into town. It is bright and updated with hints of days gone by. The service was friendly and quick. Our waitress anticipated our needs, bringing ranch and ketchup for our fries without us even asking. I ordered the mega grilled cheese — three slices of bread, several different cheeses, 100% delicious! My husband polished off his sharp cheddar bacon burger and had only good things to say about it. We finished off the meal with an ice cream sundae, which was delicious and dripping with hot fudge. Man, I miss this place!

I think this place is alright if you’re not expecting a whole lot, just looking to hang out and eat something. However, I will say that thehre Snow Crab Linguine with Alfredo is pretty bomb. Thats what Id recommend. The only thing that I didn’t like is thmhey had a sign saying the soup special was clam chowder and after hours of it being completely gone and unable to serve it, thwy didn’t erase It off their chalk board sign, even though my sister in law pointed out that they’re sign still said so. Oh well, but overall the food was gokd so 3 stars!

This review is for the ice cream. We ordered the cookies and cream sundae and was not disappointed. I’m a choco-holic so I loved it — the service was quick and friendly. I shall go here again and try the food.

We arrived around 7:30 on a Wednesday morning and the place was empty. We were immediately greeted and told to sit wherever we wanted. Our server, Allie, followed us to the table with menus and took our drink orders. Allie did her job excellently. Giving us time to decide, asking all the necessary questions, keeping our coffee full and just giving us excellent service. She later greeted some regular customers with the same level of confidence and competence. The food was as described on the menu but nothing particularly spectacular. We ordered: Chicken Fried Steak with Gravy(3) — It was okay. I should have asked if the gravy was Country Sausage Gravy which I prefer over White Pepper Gravy. My two Eggs Over Easy(3) — were just that, nothing special. My two Biscuits with Gravy(2) — were bland. The Hash Browns were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the center(3) — still nothing special. Her French Toast was good(4) — and fluffy Her Bacon was good(4) — nice and crispy Her two Eggs Over Easy(3) — were as bland as mine. A functional and filling breakfast but nothing to write home about.
