This guy was spraying pesticides instead of simply bending over and pulling a few weeds. I had specifically told him that no such poisons were to be used as I have dogs and did not want them exposed. I could go on about his questionable knowledge of horticulture, but there is not nearly enough time or space.
The final straw was his quote for $ 1100.00 to replace a backflow valve assembly in my irrigation system which he claimed to have ‘failed’ (one of the valves leaked a bit). The system was only a year or two old and I thought something was amiss here. I looked up the product ($ 300 retail) and called the manufacturer. They were very helpful as they explained that a new systems may dislodge small pieces of solder or other detritus that can find their way to the valve. He sent me an exploded view of the device along with a set of rubber washers ($ 1) and within 5 minutes of setting out on the repair, I had solved the problem.
Not only had I saved $ 1,099 but I was soon rid of this nefarious character.
