Morro Bay Sandpiper Inn

The motel is walking distance from the embarcadero. The gentleman at the front counter was polite & friendly & the room was nice enough. Everything here is expensive so complaining about the «bang for the buck» is a moot point. The rooms are very small and there are no 2 bed rooms either.
I did have 2 major gripes in that they seem to need a bigger water heater. Saturday morning I was up at 6:00 & the water was only slightly warm. Sunday morning I got into the shower at 7:00 and it was cold, not warm but cold. That is totally unacceptable.
Secondly, either the tv or the controller has an issue. It worked only sometimes. Sunday morning, I couldnt get it to come on at all. It had an issue with being able to change channels the previous night. The lights on the controller came on, but the tv was unresponsive.

Outstanding prices, only a couple of blocks from the bay, clean well maintained rooms, close to San Luis Obispo, Cambria and Hearst Castle. Very attentive and accommodating manager. A great choice if you’re in the area. Will definitely stay there again when we come up to SLO.

Clean and simple yet spacious. Service is as good as it gets. Owner went out of his way to make sure our time at motel was comfortable. Centrally located to the Embarcadaro, downtown, and all the birding spots we wanted to see. View of Morro Bay and Rock from our second story balcony. I plan on definitely returning to the Sandpiper.

If you are driving southward on PCH, this is an excellent motel stop choice! Despite being the cheapest motel during my whole trip, Morro Bay Sandpiper Inn came as a surprise to me because the room was spacious and clean! With a lot of free amenities, this motel is great at least an one-​night stay.
My first impression of motel was the friendly owner who checked us in and was helpful in ensuring our stay was comfortable. As I said, the room was quite spacious, even though it has a strangely large amount of chairs inside. The restroom was no exception as the sink was its own separate room (which is also a closet) from the shower-​toilet space, so one person can use the shower and toilet without interfering another who needs the sink! The free breakfast was also a huge plus as well. (Although I wish the serving time starts before 8)
Whether you are planning to explore the city, this inn is only a short two-​block walk away from the boardwalk and the famous Morro Rock, so you can take a quick look (and photo op) of the city’s landmark.
Anyway, Sandpiper Inn is an excellent choice because of its free amenities (including parking and Wi-​Fi), spacious room, and friendly service. Especially with its cheap rate, I recommend making an extra effort to stay here for a PCH stop!

Decided to take the advice from fellow Unilocalers and I must say that it was a great idea on my part. This place is at the end of town and is super quiet. The staff was very accommodating, communicated very well and was gracious the entire stay. Our room was extremely clean and actually smelled fresh. The room has an amazing view of the ocean and Morro Rock. There was a coffee pot, mini fridge, microwave and a brand new flat screen in the room. For the price we payed (which was very reasonable) we got a great place to stay. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Morro Bay.

We stayed here because we have a 30 lb. DOG we are road tripping with. There is a $ 25 surcharge for the dog. But I found that reasonable since one dog marking could take tons of time in cleaning to get the room back to par. The room had no evidence or smell of DOG. I’m always scared when you rent an inexpensive room it’s one of those places that you don’t want to walk on the floor without slippers. The Sandpiper isn’t one of those.
The location was great. When I took our dog for his morning walk today, once leaving the door it’s a glorious view of the water and within 5 minutes you are right at the water front.
My only complaint was the sustainable toilet paper. I used the kleenex instead for my bathroom needs.
This is a family run business and I respected Ron’s kindness, warmth and appreciation of our business. With the money we saved, my husband and I were able to enjoy an amazing celebratory dinner along the water without guilt.

Had our anniversary here and it was perfect locations for a romantic getaway. The hosts knew we were coming in for a special occasion and did everything they could to make out weekend perfect. The room was set up with many flowers and our pictures all over the room as I instructed. The room was stocked with our champagne and fruit I had requested. Needless to say if you have been to morro bay you know how beautiful the sunsets can be.

The family that runs this hotel was very friendly, and they take pride in their work. The inn is located close to a downtown area with lots of shops and local restaurants. Our only complaints were that the décor was dated, and we had minimal control over the heating and air.

The room was very clean and the front desk staff was super nice. The grounds are kept up well and there are lots of beautiful succulents outside as well as a little table to sit at depending on the room .The breakfast was meager, quartered Costco muffins and coffee is what we had. Our biggest complaint was the bed… it was possibly one of the worst I have slept on… ever. We were in room 10 bottom floor corner no view and very loud neighbors. All night we heard noises. Buzzes from the fridge cars coming and going, a clicking bathroom light. For 2 nights we paid 125.00 which we thought was a great deal. However, we needed a vacation after our vacation to catch up on sleep from the crappy bed. Overall, ok for the price and we got what we paid for. We wont be staying there again.

No AC/​heat in room at all, and it was muggy. Paper thin walls, didn’t get much sleep due to noise. Cheap hard mattress. Advertised as 2 rooms but only one. Free breakfast was just cold cereal and carbs, no fruit or protein. Disappointed.

Nice, clean motel with friendly staff. Easy walking distance to Embarcadero where everything happens. Comfortable beds. The only downside was the breakfast which really was just a choice of two cold cereal and quartered muffins to take to your room.

Friendly staff, cute and clean rooms, and a great price! We were part of a large group; our room and some of the others were on the second floor while the rest of the group was on the first floor. Those of us on the second floor found the beds to be quite hard, while everyone on the first floor raved about the comfort of their beds. My companion and I quickly came to the conclusion that although we prefer the second floor at motels like this, if we ever make it back to this inn we will opt for a first floor room for the more comfy beds. Overall though, we had a wonderful experience and wouldn’t hesitate booking another stay here.

My sisters & I were here for an overnight. It was very clean! The staff was very friendly & helpful! There wasn’t a dining room for the continental breakfast, because this is a quaint older inn. We had delicious muffins with coffee and orange juice that we took back to our room on a tray. We would definitely return!

As a clean old school beach motel it gets the job done.
— The parking lot has just enough spaces for each room so don’t expect to grab the spot by your door.
— Depending on your room you either get a view of the rock or the Santa Lucias to the north.
— Management was quick to address issues such as the lack of hot water on our first day. Cold showers on a cold morning = no es bueno.
— The room comes with a mini-​fridge and coffee maker.
— «Continental» breakfast consists of Costco (?) muffins cut into quarters, cereal, milk, juice, tea, and coffee. I would grab enough to nibble and have a real breakfast somewhere else in town.
— You’re in walking distance to the southern part of Embarcadero near The Shell Shop.
— Free WiFi.
If you need a «base» to stay at while exploring all of the nooks and crannies up and down Hwy 1 from SLO to San Simeon, you can’t go wrong here.

Pet friendly but hang on to your wallet. after our room was paid for at $ 50 a night they wanted to add on an additional $ 50 a night for two crated dogs.

Here’s the deal– if you are expecting the Ritz, you aren’t gonna get it. What you will get is a clean room on the cheap with a beautiful view. We stay here every February for my birthday and stayed this past week. Ron, the manager, is super friendly and if you have an issue, he’ll work hard to fix it. The beds are a little worn out and water pressure could be better, but I’m told that’s an issue all over the city– not just at the sandpiper. Give this place a try– for $ 60 a night, you’ll love it.

Older hotel and needs updating, but keeps it very clean.

Exceptionally clean, walking distance to restaurants/​bars/​shops. worth every dime! and very kind staff. The continental breakfast was a little subpar, but other than that, I would definitely recommend this place and will come back to stay!

Having a weekend between visiting San Fran and LA for work I decided to stop by in Morrow Bay while traveling between these two cities.
The Sandpiper Inn is a very typical Motel with clean sheets and a horrid colour scheme. I don’t understand why Motels always use such screaming colours and in such strange combination. Aside from that the room and bathroom in itself were well furnished and clean, but sadly had no view of the amazing beach. Never mind that … it’s much nicer going down to the beach than just looking at it. The staff at the front desk were lovely and they even offer coffee, tea and muffins in the mornings.

This is a great little motel not far from the boardwalk and the Seven Sisters volcanic rock. It’s inexpensive which is great when you are travelling around like us and need to save money!
The room is very clean, the bed is comfy, the shower is clean and nice and it has a coffee maker, mini fridge and microwave.
The check-​in was easy and it had free wifi so all in all I say a great night in a gorgeous little seaside town.
