Allen R Phillips Architecture is a development company that re-​imagines turn of the century townhouses in New York and through architectural intervention creates more livable homes.

Due to building technologies, financial constraints or social norms at the time, many of these buildings are now functionally obsolete. By repurposing the layouts we are able to optimize square footage and improve the rent rolls for owners and investors.

Many of these properties have underutilized FAR (Floor Area Ratio — how much buiding is allowed on a plot of land) and can have additional RSF (rentable square footage) added with little architectural intervention.

Allen R Phillips prides itself on building contextually relevant extensions that meld with the surrounding buildings. In a city where housing stock is in such short demand, we unlock the unused building potential in an elegant and socially responsible way.

For New Yorkers, young professionals, and mid-​career transients not yet ready to settle down, our homes provided the amenities people crave like Washer/​Dryers, Dishwashers, closets, outdoor space, energy efficient appliances and flexible living space.

For owners, we provide management services including monthly maintenance, marketing, rentals, accounting and financials.

For investors we identify, purchase and renovate properties to yield best in class ROI.

Established in 1993.

A developer in San Francisco, California since 1993, Allen opened shop in New York City in 2010 to begin renovating turn-​of-​the-​century Townhomes and creating some of NYC’s most livable homes.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Allen R. Phillips received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architectural Design from Parsons School of Design in New York City and his Bachelor of Arts in Advertising Design from the Art Institute of Houston. Prior to forming Allen R. Phillips Architecture, Allen’s work included design direction, strategic marketing, brand management and business development for Fortune 500 clients. His portfolio spans an international agency, a multimedia start-​up, and includes supplier-​side (consumer and B2B) experience.

Throughout his career Allen has practiced SixSigma, Total Quality Management (TQM) and Continuous Improvement Process (CIP). These tools assured successful delivery of product to his advertising clients and now allow him to do the same for architecture and development clients. Allen believes that in design, as in marketing, one must find innovative solutions that are practical and magical at the same time.
