Re: N718348: I just had a move this past weekend and overall the move went well. The movers were all very polite and courteous, however, my bunk bed arrived broken. When they wrapped it at the original location, they decided to take a shortcut and not take it all the way apart. 2 end and side pieced were left together and only wrapped with a little plastic around the corner. This was a mistake. The ladder was broken at the bottom, therefore I had to use liquid nails to adhere the 2 pieces together. I have to wait to see whether it will hold. Everything else was wrapped well and arrived in great condition, so not sure why they would chance this. Will make a complaint directly to the company to see what they say. I had given them quite a big tip and now regret it. I wish I had time to go through everything with a fine tooth comb. but I know that the movers have other stops… Next time i won’t worry about anyone else but myself… I have to pay for it in the end! A Ben Hur representative from customer service contacted me today in order to arrange for someone to come out to my house to repair the damaged ladder. She was very nice and courteous and was willing and wanted to make things right. Except for the broken ladder issue, overall, the move went well. It appears that there needs to be some re-​training in assembly and dis-​assembly for some workers of items if they are going to cross over from just packing and moving. Because the ladder is critical for my kids to have access to the top bed, it is a really big deal to me. There is a safety concern involved now and no one can use it. If the bed is repaired in a timely manner, I will make sure that I add that here. So far they have been on top of this.

Used them for the 2^nd time in 2 years. Had a great experience both times and nothing got scratched or broken. Use them and ask for Luis.

Awesome moving company. We moved long distance from New York to California.
The movers were helpful with wrapping, securing items in blankets with extra tape, etc.
The mover paid great attention to minor details making sure all items, boxes are accounted numbered and tallied.
They arrived a month later to the final destination with good shape, nothing breaks! wow.
The movers are super friendly and professional.
Ben Hur, is the company to hire when moving your house hold items.

The most polite movers I have ever seen. I was not moving today but coming %into the apartment and needed the elevator. The two gentlemen had the elevator loaded and started to empty it so that I can use it. It was an amazing gesture that 99% of the time is overlooked. Moving is such a chore on the people moving in and the tenants in the building, but with Ben Hur I was so impressed I had to write a review. When I move I will make sure to call and use Ben Hur just because of the two gentlemen in Brooklyn today. Forget 26 acts of kindness, just common courtesy goes a long way in today’s society.

Thanks so much for an amazing move. We have used you twice. Once when my husband moved into my apt and recently as we moved to a new apt. Movers were courtesy, well mannered and did not break or lose one item. Will definitely use BenHur again!

Worst movers ever, move don Friday but they were late I moved all of my stuff from the 44^th floor to the street, these guys, show up one hour and a half late. Had I not moved my stuff I would’ve lost the freight elevator.

Ben hur/​ny mini storage did a great job of moving my items from my apartment to their storage faculty. Everyone was just wonderful!!! The only issue I have is with their hours, they close at 6p. m where other storage stay open a few hours longer.

I will edit this post to state that I originally wrote this in June 2011. I don’t know why it is just now posting. Hopefully their service has gotten better.
These movers were HORRIBLE!!!
I hired them for a move from the Midwest to Manhattan. They originally told me that the move would be around $ 1,800. That worked out fabulously, because the UHaul and gas, would be about the same amount. So, I signed the paperwork and got the date all set up. They were supposed to arrive on a Saturday between 9:00 and 11:00 am. They called around 9:30 am telling me they were running late and would not be to my house until 1:00. By 4:00 pm, I was beginning to worry that maybe they got lost and called the Dispatch. No one there answered the phone, I called the cell phone of the driver, and he did not answer either. After waiting a little bit longer, they finally arrived at 4:45 pm. When they arrived, they said I had more items that I originally disclosed, which was not the case. When I reviewed the paperwork, I noticed that the person I spoke to on dispatch wrote down the wrong number of boxes. The movers said they needed to get a new quote. They came back with $ 3,200! That was crazy! I had already given my deposit, so after fighting with dispatch for a little bit, I was finally able to get them back down to $ 2,500.
The two guys arrived in a 14′ UHaul truck, telling me that they could not get their semi-​truck down my street. I have seen other semi’s make it down the street so I was confused, but they assured me they would be able to fit all of my belongings into the 14′ UHaul and transfer the items to their truck in a city a half hour away. After packing up most of my items, at about 10:00 pm, they came inside and told me they did not have enough room for everything and needed to drive down to the other city. They would be gone AT MOST 20 minutes. An hour and a half later, the guy returns WITH HIS SEMI that wouldn’t fit down the street. I was amazed, it actually fit! Go figure. So, by 11:30 at night, they have just finished packing up my belongings, and they give me the paperwork and tell me it is standard to collect half the fee up front. I refused to pay stating that I had already given my deposit and that I would pay them upon arrival of my belongings in NYC.
They called me two days before I was supposed to arrive in Manhattan telling me they were ready to deliver my items. I told them I was unavailable that day for delivery as I was not arriving until Friday night. They asked what time they could deliver on Friday, but since I was unsure of my arrival time I told them they would have to deliver on my originally scheduled day of Saturday. They told me this day was unavailable and that they would have to deliver on Sunday. This was a problem for me, because when they first packed up my stuff, they told me if they had to store my belongings after my scheduled move in date, I would have to pay for storage. If they had to store it before, I wouldn’t have to pay for it. So, I finally got them to re-​agree to the originally scheduled time on Saturday. When they arrived Saturday, they told me they would not move anything in until after I paid, and tried to charge me an additional $ 400 for storage fees. After arguing with dispatch for a half hour, we finally got the charges removed and the guys started bringing up my things. My furniture was slightly damaged, but the worst part is that I am missing boxes. I do not doubt that I will never get the boxes back, and I am disappointed that I have lost some belongings especially after such a stressful experience.
I would recommend any movers other than these guys. Absolutely horrible.

The only reason I’m not giving five stars is because they didn’t delivery by the day I was expecting.
But it was pretty good. I’ve moved from New York to Miami Beach the price was great comparing to the others. They went to pick up by the time they said and my stuff was intact.

WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER!
I heard from a friend that Ben Hur was a decent moving company but I had to learn that hard way that they were anything but! In terms of price, it can’t be beat but don’t let this shady company fool you. The movers demanded a 15% tip when they showed up to move my stuff. The estimator also said that it would take 3 – 7 days (did not specify business days). 4 days later, I call the company who not only have the worst customer service, but they didn’t seem to have any clue where my stuff was. They said they couldn’t locate the driver! When they finally reach the driver (Tsury), who turned out to be the biggest scumbag ever, he kept telling me my stuff would arrive that day but then wouldn’t show up! He gave me different excuses every day saying he had other deliveries. When he finally showed up at MIDNIGHT one night, he had the nerve to tell me that it was CASH ONLY and also that he had to charge me a $ 75 tip because it was a «long» distance from the truck to the door, quoting some bullshit policy. He smoked at his truck which his younger Israelan partner slaved away. Throughout this whole ordeal, the office was completely unprofessional and not helpful. They didn’t give a hoot about any of the complaints. Do yourself a favor and STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS AWFUL COMPANY.

I have moved with them twice, and both moves were with no hassle. First local NYC move they did for me in 2007 and just recently they move me into Riverdale. They did full packing service and were able to pack my entire 2 bedroom apartment with no damages, i did not find any visible scratches on my furniture. — I have 2 china cabinets full of dishes and glass — they packed so fast and safety. Movers were extremely friendly and careful for every single piece in my apartment. Thanks a lot to Mr Steven Green foreman for good organization and smiling.
My relocation consultant was Tolstov, who was extremely helpful in organization process. He gave me many options and reasonable prices.
Whenever I move in the future, I will definitely be using them again and will recommend to my friends.

I asked Ben Hur for a full packing flat rate to move from New York to Boston. It was 20% cheaper than flatrate movers. In the end, the move went well, they arrived on time both at departure and arrival and worked diligently.
A few things irked me. Tape put directly on the wood of an antique. The printer at the bottom of a garment box without any protection. A few high-​value items wrapped more than casually. For the rest, kitchen stuff, china, etc, everything was well done.
Then there was the communication problem: I had plants in the inventory and on packing day the driver said it was forbidden to transport plants. Similarly, on packing day, the movers said the boxes should have been delivered a few days before (first time I heard about it). I also mentioned to my contact that one piece of furniture would most likely have to go through the window. He ignored that piece of information: the movers were not equipped to do that, so the furniture stayed downstairs.
Upon delivery, the mover made one attempt to hike up the price.
The team worked hard but they are not professional movers, more like students doing it on the side. Really not worth it.

I moved a few months ago with this company. Thought it was going to be a great deal (and saw all the great Unilocal reviews!) I was told that moving all my stuff from my storage unit and my two bedroom apt to a new 2br apt would take approx 4 – 6 hours, at the most. They asked for NO inventory, or even a general idea of how much stuff I had. When I was trying to tell the dispatcher guy on phone a list of my things, he told me it didn’t matter since it was an «hourly move».
UMMMM. OK? That should have been the big HELLO for me, but I thought since this is what they do, they knew best. WRONG! :
Move took 9 hours the first day, and move had to be completed 3 days later (another 3 hours), and ended up costing me way more than FlatRate would have. $ 1800 after tips!!! Oh yeah, I was the 4^th mover and my boyfriend the 5^th, when he got home! And our old landlord now hates us and we had a huge (and $$$) hassle extending the lease 5 days due to not being moved out of apt by end of lease (our move day), !
[Also, related to having to extend the lease at old apt… Ben-​Hur guy insisted over and over that the insurance paperwork that old landlord needed to have them complete the move outside of lease, was so simple and was faxed, even after I kept insisting it was not the regular liability for a reg move. Of course, he was wrong and never sent correct paperwork (he told me they do this all the time, «don’t worry»), making old landlord even more angry!]
The movers themselves could not have been better, and did not work slow at all… The problem was that the dispatcher only had 3 guys and a small truck, when I really needed like 5 guys and a large truck.
The manager was super un-​professional and told me it was MY FAULT for not asking for those things up front, as if I know how many movers or how big of a truck for my move will be needed! Total a**holes (manager), and will never get my business again.
Moving is hell in the best circumstances, but with Ben-​Hur, it was the worst nightmare ever.
Be warned! ;(Very shady business.

The experience was horrible from start to finish but here is all you need to know:
I did not even ask them to move an air conditioner (which is not allowed in most buildings without the super) but they did and they DROPPED it from a sixth floor window. Thank god no one was hurt or injured.
The whole experience was traumatizing. BEWARE.

Ben Hur Moving team did an incredible job. They were very helpful and professional both over the phone and in person. They have arrived on time, they knew exactly what they are doing starting from packing crew to the unpacking group.
The stuff were extremely courteous, they took great care of each item. In addition, boxes, the furniture and other household items were put in their desired places with a great care.
If you really want to have a stress free move and affordable prices, I would recommend to contact Ben Hur Moving & Storage!

It’s generally hard to trust people with your treasures. I trust these guys and recommend them to anyone doing a move from NYC.
They also showed up early, which was impressive & didn’t ding the walls and try to make it seem like «it was there before».
Give them a chance. You’ll love Ben Hur Moving & Storage too!

These are the worst, most incompetent people I have ever dealt with. Not just the worst movers, but the worst, period.
Ben Hur did a fine job moving me out of college upstate. Their guys were a few hours late, but that didn’t bother me since they had to drive 4 hours from NYC to Ithaca.
Of course, once I wanted my things moved to my new apartment in NYC, it was a different story. I scheduled a move in weeks in advance and was given a 1 hour arrival window. I sat in my apartment, waiting, for that hour, and for an hour after. I continually called Ben Hur’s office and was told that the movers would arrive in 15 min several times (and for several hours). I was told that the movers were stuck in traffic in Hoboken. Finally, at 4 pm, many hours after they were supposed to arrive, Ben Hur called to say they were not going to be able to make it that day — because the movers were still working on another job (so much for traffic in Hoboken). I rescheduled for the next morning at 10 am.
At 11 am, the movers still had not arrived, so I called and was told that they had left some time ago and would be arriving any minute. At 11:45, they still had not arrived, so I called again. I was told that all of the movers were currently doing other jobs (what happened to being on the way?) and that they would not be able to arrive until late afternoon and would not be able to give me any further specifics as to time.
Finally, after waiting on hold for about 10 minutes, they told me that they could not deliver my things that day after all, and that I could reschedule tomorrow.
Keep in mind that I have a STUDIO apartment, it is not a lot of stuff, and that I have already PAID IN FULL a considerably large sum given the distance of my move. Requests to speak with a manager or anyone other than a dispatch personnel have resulted in my being hung up on, or put on hold for 30 minutes until I was forced to hang up. They are unprofessional and rude, and are all too willing to blatantly lie to convince you that they will be there soon and to get you off the phone.
It stands to be seen when my belongings will actually be delivered. Until then I can not move into my apartment and will probably continue to waste entire days sitting on my hardwood floor waiting for these guys to show up. Awesome.
** Update: to be fair, when the movers eventually did make it to my apartment, the actual movers were fast, very nice, and professional. They did a great job very quickly, and out of all of my belongings, only one thing broke (the glass in a very large frame) — pretty impressive, considering the amount of fragile things I have. The actual movers themselves are excellent; it seems to be the people in the office that create such a terrible experience.

I don’t quite get the hate in these reviews. Ben Hur was my lowest estimate by leaps and bounds.
Their service was beyond professional. The movers were polite and worked quickly. I would use Ben Hur again and again. My move went flawlessly.

WORST MOVERS EVER.
DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.
First of all, they were late to start, they didn’t have the proper paperwork for my building, they were rude, didn’t listen to me, wouldn’t take apart certain pieces of furniture (which have been taken apart properly with other movers in other moves I have done), they were slow and disorganized.
They then refused to unload the truck without payment in full… how can I pay someone when they have not completed the service?
After much argument back and forth, they agreed to unload the truck, but they chipped some of my furniture while getting it into my new home, refused to take responsability for it, and then, to top it all off, they tried to charge me MORE than the price they quoted me over the phone that they had sworn up and down was «Locked In».
They also made some rude comments about me when they thought I wasn’t listening.
Basically, don’t use them unless you want to be ripped off, have broken stuff, take forever, and pretty much all around hate yourself and your belongings.
