Better Move

I just used Better Move last week for a third time. As for this recent move, I was moving from Manhattan to Brooklyn. I was moving from a studio to a one bedroom. I wasn’t able to finalize my new location until two weeks before the move. Despite the move occurring in the midst of the busy season, Zvi was accommodating as possible up until the last minute. He was able to squeeze me into a highly busy morning slot. His crew was on time, extremely professional and efficient. I did most of the packing but there was some packing that Better Move had to do. None of my items were broken or damaged and there was no damage to my old or new building. There’s a complaint below about the final cost being higher than the initial estimate. My actual cost was higher than the estimate too, but that was because additional packing and time was required that wasn’t accounted for in the estimate. Estimating a move is not an exact science and I suspect it would’ve occurred with any moving company. All said, the job took 7 hours (including travel time) instead of 6. In the past, when I’ve had an issue, Better Move was responsive and very fair in resolving it. I would definitely use them again.

After receiving an email estimate from Eugene G. for three hours of work, Eugene refused to respond to our query of when we could book the start time for our move. Zvi M. spoke with us over the phone and increased the price by about $ 200, accusing us of not understanding the estimate. Zvi claimed we did not provide a list of items to be moved (even though we did) and claimed the estimate we were initially given was a «minimum» — despite that we have written confirmation it was an «estimate.»
He also said New York Law mandates that moving companies have to additionally charge for one hour travel time (half an hour to your first apartment and half an hour back from the new apartment). Yet when pressed for the Rule, he refused to provide it.
Zvi was rude, condescending and self-​important. DO NOT USE his other moving company, Manor Moving and Storage, either, unless you like being insulted and conned.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I never post reviews but this situation was too awful not to share. I want to save someone else the trouble that I had to deal with. I paid to keep several of my items in storage with them for years and when I finally got them out I found them to be terribly damaged! When I tried to speak to someone about the damage they gave me the run around and would not let me speak to someone in customer service. When someone from customer service finally called me they were extremely rude. Please save yourself the trouble and do NOT use this company.

I’m just going to state the facts and avoid color commentary. They marked up my walls and put a bad scratch in my floor that is about 12″ long. They were more concerned with time than being careful. Oh, and they won’t do anything about it. And this was a referral from a broker who’s company uses them often! Sooooo, I guess the lucky people above me didn’t have their apartment damaged by them. I’m sure you can find someone else.

Al and his team are THE BEST. They helped my friend move apartments in New York and made the move so straightforward I couldn’t believe it. They got everything done quickly, definitely the most efficient movers you’ll ever get. On time and on budget, no one else compares.

My best move experience yet in NY. AL’s crew was punctual, thoughtful, so pleasant to be around and really good at moving! They emptied my apartment so quick and moved right onto the next apartment. My move was for 3 stops (my place, my new roommates place and the our new place together) and they seemed like it was nothing. A smile never left their faces and they even helped us decide how to lay out our furniture when we were stuck. Moved us into a 5^th floor walkup with ease. My quote was accurate and they took great care to ensure they stuck to that amount. I will absolutely recommend them again!

I am a real estate agent in NYC and my company has been working with Better Move for several years now. They give our clients a discount for coming through the company and that’s why I referred them in the beginning. Now I refer them because of the positive feedback that I am receiving from my clients. I follow up with all of them and see how they liked the service. The vast majority have been very happy with Better Move and quite a few have used them again. Their CEO is very responsive, professional and friendly in all of our email correspondences. I would recommend them to anyone.

I just hired Better Move for a second move and had a great experience (obviously my first experience was excellent, or I would not have called them back). The process was easy from the beginning (booking the move, getting a [very fair] estimate) to the middle (helping me pack things I was unable to pack on my own, very very nice workers, quick and efficient), to the end (two of three elevators in my new building were out… you can imagine how frustrating that was to everyone involved, but you wouldn’t know it from listening to the guys that did my move). It was a smooth day, no issues whatsoever, and I would absolutely use the company again next time. I’ve seen my friends deal with bad companies and feel grateful to have had such great experiences.
As for the reviewer who moved out of state, she needs to understand that by going long distance, she is dealing with movers who are not actually working for the local company (even if what she wrote really did happen) and no long-​distance move is guaranteed for a specific date – it’s always within a range of a few days (been there, done that.)

I can’t fathom the poor reviews below. I had nothing but a positive experience with Better Move.
I moved from the UES to Washington Heights in mid-​March and used Better Move after seeing a Living Social deal for a free hour of moving. The movers were running late and called me to let me know, which most places won’t do. They emptied my apartment in what felt like 5 minutes, working as quickly and efficiently as possible. All of my furniture was in pristine condition after the move and they didn’t even complain (at least out loud) about my moving into a fifth floor walk-​up. The movers were courteous and respectful and deserved every penny of the tip we gave them.
All moving companies have a minimum requirement for hours to work, so the reviewer below would have the same complaint everywhere. I moved from a tiny apartment and didn’t have much with me, but it still took 3 – 4 hours for the full move and I would pay them full price to move my things again. Definitely recommend this company.

Better Move is the best moving company I’ve used for in-​city moves. Their hourly rate is standard for the market but they are much more professional than any other mover I have used. I highly recommend them.

Very responsive. They brought me the necessary materials to pack myself, then packed my fragile items /​electronics for me. Worked very quickly, and were pleasant to deal with. Overall a great experience.

My friend Kyle is a real estate broker in NYC and he recommended Better Move. It was incredibly easy to set up the date and time with Ori and the 3 gentlemen that came to move me were very professional, friendly and helpful. I was still packing when they got there so we listened to music and just had a good time gettin everything out of my UWS apartment down to my new FiDi apartment.

Don’t use these guys for a cross country move.
After showing up 3 days late…
They told me that they would let me know in advance if the hill I lived on was too steep for the moving truck in which case a smaller truck would be necessary along with a $ 150 charge. They didn’t mention anything to me so the driver shows up with an 18 wheeler and refuses to drive up the hill. He says that he is one ticket away from having his license suspended and doesn’t want to take the risk (what does that say about the driver? And the company who hired him?). Finally the 18 wheeler makes it up one of the steepest hills in Sf and is illegally parked in the middle of the intersection while the one moving helper hurriedly unloads my boxes in the middle of the street. Great. Further more, they shattered the glass desktop which they charged me extra to hand pack. Awesome.
On the plus side they’re relatively cheep in price (500 ft³ for 2300) but who cares when they are incapable?
The one star is for the fact that they are cheap and that’s about it.

Moving in NYC can be a huge pain, but moving with Better Move was perfect! They showed up on time, were extremely quick and efficient and a pleasure to be around. I didn’t have any qualms about them moving any of my furniture and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to make a move.

I recently moved with Better Move, and I can honestly say it was a great experience. The movers came early, which wasn’t a problem. Also, I actually met someone from the corporate office once I arrived at my new place. They setup my things easily, and made the transition a quick one for me. They really do try to give you the most stress free move they can. Thank You Better Move!
