Great American Wash

Nothing really new to add that the previous reviews haven’t already covererd but thought I’d add my opinion. And that would be — try somewhere else. There’s loads of places on the 9^th Ave, so give this one a miss. Yes, the machines are fairly new but the water still is not HOT on the hot cycle. And the spin cycle leaves the clothes still considerably wet, so if you decide to wait for a dryer, you need more time. The people there are unbelivably rude, there’s no need to put up with it, again, there’s loads of options close by. English may not be their first language, or more likely, they probably understand perfectly well but just choose not to. It’s possibly unpleasant being in a room at the back, but it’s your choice to work there, don’t take it out on the customers.

Please avoid their pick up and drop off at all cost. My bed sheets, flitted sheets and pillow cases came back with black spots and holds in it.

I’ve used this place several times — I tried to overlook their rudeness since it was the closest Laundromat to my apartment. My last encounter there will be my final. First of all, when I dropped off my sheets in the morning, I put the bag on the scale that clearly said 9 lbs. Walking out the door with my receipt, I realized they charged me for 19 lbs. So I went back and they fixed it — honest mistake I thought. When I went to pick up my bag that night, I realized there is nothing honest about this sleazy place. My receipt clearly stated $ 7 and when I went to pay she said (rudely) — it will be $ 9. When I tried to explain that my receipt said a different amount and it was not right or ethical for them to just change our agreed upon price, the employee simply did not understand anything. I paid $ 9 so that they would release my laundry that they were holding hostage. I know it was only $ 2 but it was really the rudeness and the total lack of apologetic-​ness of the employee that got me mad.
The dry cleaning is horrible. I don’t know what they do, but they somehow manage to destroy your clothes and return them not any cleaner.
Also, if you decide to stay and do your washing yourself, it is just a miserable situation. They often have no dryers available, because they are using them all for personal use. It is crampt and there is no space to even maneuver a cart around.
I highly recommend walking a few extra yards to literally any other place in the neighborhood (there are at least 10 others in the vicinity).

It’s been two years of using this disgusting, rude and unprofessional establishment. Owner is never there and things from your laundry will ALWAYS go missing. Please save yourself the time and money, take your business elsewhere. Also never use there dry cleaning. Please go down the block. Trust me

I don’t understand the bad reviews. This is a perfectly decent laundromat. Clean. Comfortable. Good washers and dryers. Don’t believe the bad reviews.

It’s not the fanciest laundry mat but it’s very clean and the ladies working are friendly. No parking due to construction but it’s empty around 1pm.

Do NOT use this laundromat. They are horrible. My roommate and I called to have them pick up our laundry. We had two separate bags. The pick up service was fine, but when we called later that day to have them deliver our laundry, they could barely even understand English. They began telling me that our bags were empty and had no clothes. They kept hanging up on me when I asked to speak to another employee. When I called back, they wouldn’t answer my
phone call because I’m assuming that they have caller ID. Finally, I blocked my number and they answered. After much confusion and frustration, my roommate decided to just go pick up the laundry herself. Upon arrival, she discovered that all of our clothes had been thrown into one bag, instead of keeping them separated into two bags, the way they were dropped off. She also went to pick up some items she had dropped off a week prior, only to find out that her laundry was MISSING. The employees showed no sympathy and made no promises of finding her belongings. Absolutely ridiculous. I will never use Great American Wash again.

Nothing fancy about this Hells Kitchen Laundromat. Small, relatively clean, prices are competitive (machines eange from $ 2.50 to $ 6.00). What this place has going for it is that all washing machines are NEW. Small window in the back of the establishment that takes dry cleaning and drop off orders. The lady there must be depressed to be stck back there, she really rude and impolite. PROCEED WITH CAUTION

To hotel rates and good location. A little $$ expensive for a Laundry mat still. $ 5dollars large load, $ 2.50 small loads. 25c for 6 mins in a dryer.

Seriously, what’s up with all the bad reviews? It’s just as cheap to pay for wash and fold as it is to do it yourself. Why not save the time and have someone else care for your laundry? Not to mention the fact that by doing so you save yourself a lot of hot and stuffy hours sitting in the cramped laundry mat. Anyhow, I find that their wash and fold service to be quite great — never lost an item but had a button go M.I.A. I have been going here for a year and that’s the biggest upset. Their dry cleaning is also affordable and they don’t charge different prices for pressing a woman’s shirt over a man’s shirt — like every other Dry Cleaner on 9^th Ave. Phone number is hard to find, just added it to Unilocal,but you can reach them at (212) 397‑6675.

I agree with some reviews I read of laundrymats in the area. None of them are that good. This one is small, crowded and the washers seem old and not that clean. None of them ate my quarters though like the machines at the laundrymat on 51^st and 10^th. Not sure what’s up in this neighborhood as I have had good laundry experiences in other parts of the city. I came here early in the middle of the week and still had to fight for machines, esp. dryers. The plus side is there are some chairs to sit in. I also agree with one reviewer, as I saw a man there leering at me the whole time. Ick. I may start laundering some things at home because the places in the area suck.

I’ve been going to Great American Wash off and on for the past few months mainly because they have superior dryers. Beyond that, they don’t have much to offer and after the past few recent experiences there’s nothing to get me back there. Like others have said, it gets crowded. Ridiculously crowded during the weekends. This one time, there was a queue for the queue for the few available washers. And when I finally get my turn, the washers decide to skip the rinse cycle, leaving my load sudsy and unsatisfied. Thankfully, they paid for another cycle, but it’d been infinitely better if I didn’t have to deal with it in the first place.
What really grinded my gears about this place was a wash and fold experience I had. I left my sack with the attendant in the morning, letting her know I was to pick it up in the evening after 6pm. She understood and entered «RUSH, Pickup after 5pm» on my receipt. I come back after 7pm that night only to learn that my sack hadn’t even been touched. The attendant in charge at that time said it’d be finished on Friday. That’s 2 days from now and I wanted to have a clean load for the holiday! Too bad, the morning attendant was mistaken. That’s it, now go away.

this place almost made me doubt moving back to ny. i live a couple buildings down, and i knew i would be spending every sunday for the rest of my life here (unless i wanted to do my own laundry in my bathtub, which i also considered).
having lived in the same building before, all i could think about was the disgusting machines, caked in about 15 different kinds of unidentifiable detergent, the four chairs that are somehow supposed to seat patrons of about ten washers and dryers (which, by the way, isn’t nearly enough), and the lady that stands in her little window in the back and glares at you. not to mention the total creeps that frequent the place.
maybe this is just what laundromats are like now. but, boy, i would probably move away if this was my only option for laundry. if you live on this block, i’d recommend shopping around the neighbourhood for a cleaner, bigger place– currently i’m still ISO a by-​the-​pound wash and fold.

This little laundry mat is like many others along 9^th Avenue: small, crowded at times, in need of severe ventilation, and expensive enough to question the reason why you chose to live here. For $ 2.00 on a double load, $ 3.00 a triple load, and 25 cents per 7 minutes in the dryer, this place can add up quickly. Another option is to turn your clothes over to the woman behind the corner counter, but even that adds up to a rather hefty bill.
One thing that makes things convenient is that they have a sink to wash your hands (or your clothes) in, a soap dispensing machine (pay for) and a change machine that accepts up to $ 20 dollar bills. Don’t expect a lot of service in this place like one might get in the outer boroughs, its mostly fend for yourself around these parts. With that said, expect many interesting individuals to make a pass through here.
