Mama Spa

This place is pretty great. My old massage place fell off so gave this a try. Solid deep tissue massage. Fair price. This is not great jones spa or a cheap Chinatown spot… it’s in between. But they do a good job and it’s a clean place. I will go back.

My boyfriend and I came to Mama Spa for a couples massage right when they began their Spring Spa sale. We each got a 60 min Swedish massage for $ 40 per person.
We were running a bit late for our appointment so I called last minute to move the appointment back 30 min, to which they were super accommodating. We arrived at the spa a couple minutes before our appointment and were asked to fill out an in-​take survey. We were a bit puzzled because they asked for a lot of information for a simple massage so we double checked with the front desk what info they really need and gave the info valuable to our massage.
Minutes later, we were guided into the spa. The spa is nicely decorated and it looks like it was newly renovated. We were brought into a couples room and our masseuses were attentive and focused on the areas of concern as we described on our surveys. Though it was a relaxing 60 min massage for the both of us, the positive impact of the massage wasn’t very long-​lasting nor impressive. Overall, it was okay and meets expectations and the price.

I love this spa. The best place I’ve visited in NYC. I have been four times and I keep coming back because nothing compares. I wish they had more groupons because I would go much more often. I love the honey lemon water they offer after services to replenish you. Please, please, please offer more groupons.

I’m living temporarily in NYC for several months and wanted to find a good massage without breaking my bank. Mama Spa fit the bill perfectly. It’s clean and pretty, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist, and had an amazing massage. It was a deeper massage than what I asked for, but it felt so good I just went with it. At the end, I was deeply relaxed and felt SO much better. Lucy knows what she’s doing!
Afterward I had a nice honey lemonade. It was raining outside, and they even asked me if I wanted to use an umbrella!
You can get a membership that gives you a discount on massages. Even though I’m only here for five months, I will more than get my money’s worth.

I love Mama Spa! I’ve been here many times, most recently for a spa day (a birthday gift) and every time I go I feel very welcome, all the ladies are SO extremely nice, and the environment is very peaceful.
This time I had a massage, which was absolutely amazing… and a basic facial with no extractions, which felt so, so soothing and made my skin look ten years younger (at least for the day!)
Honestly, if you live in the neighborhood or even if you don’t… come here! It’s really difficult to be disappointed. The customer service is excellent.

I’ve frequented Mama Spa numerous times for several Swedish massages and facials, and I keep coming back!
Pros:
* One of my favorite spas in Manhattan– you get the same level of service of Bliss without the annoying pushy sales tactics and the exorbitant prices.
* Beautiful and immaculate space, the modern and well-​decorated rooms (not shabby and bare like Chinatown) are comfortable in size and you don’t feel cramped. You can even get a couple’s massage too!
* Exceptional service. I got a 45 min Basic Facial (no extractions, which I prefer) from Tiffany and it was glorious– she was so good endorphins kept swimming through my head during the session and I was so sad when it ended. She never once tried to sell me on more procedures and products– HUGE plus! Judy is also fabulous and highly skilled.
* Great value– Mama Spa rolls out some awesome promotions: When they first opened they offered 45 min Facial & 45 (or 1hr, I think) Swedish Massage for $ 65! During their current Fall Promotion– 45 min Basic Facial (usually $ 70) for $ 50 and 60 min Swedish Massage for $ 40! I liked Tiffany’s facial so much that I ended up purchasing 10 45 min Facials for $ 50/​each. For Manhattan, these prices are hard to find.
* Very friendly customer service, never had a problem booking with them over the phone.
* They take credit card for tips
* They provide you iced tea, lemonade or honey water after your session

Everyone, I found it! This is THE BEST massage spa in New York. I’ve tried them all from fancy salon in luxury hotels to shady joints in Chinatown and Brooklyn. Mama Spa is exactly what you need and want in a massage day spa: incredibly relaxing, clean, personable and very moderately priced.
Judy was my therapist and she is AMAZING, go and book her NOW. She has a magical touch and took care of the areas I had expressed as being sore (neck, back, shoulders, etc.). Her touch was gentle and the amount of pressure perfect (you also get to write down the kind of pressure you want from light to strong). She used various oils and lotions and hot towels which felt amazing. At the end of the massage, you also get a fresh drink (tea, lemon/​honey, water, etc.) to continue the luxurious experience further.

I got a deep pore cleansing facial yesterday and even called a few hours later to express great pain and discomfort. They said my reaction was normal. Anyway, my skin is actually BRUISED today and hurts to move. Not to mention, I now look/​feel (very painful) like I have welts all over my face. Not a normal reaction considering I went in without. I appreciated how thorough my aesthetician was but would expect better customer service. Will now be going to my medical doctor to remedy…

I went here to use a Unilocal coupon and I was in need of getting rid of some tension in my back/​shoulder. First of all, I would not recommend this place on a Saturday morning if you live anywhere in New Jersey AND you are using public trans. It was such a nightmare to get to this place since it’s all the way on lower east side, below Houston. So eh on the location in general, not convenient.
The staff was somewhat friendly and thankfully had my reservation, no problems there. Also my masseuse (woman) was okay but for 45mins I didn’t feel like I relaxed like I have with other sessions elsewhere. I did end up getting a foot cream to reduce my calluses but boy was that expensive for an 8 oz bottle ($ 18.65).
I don’t know but it wasn’t an amazing experience and overall left me feeling sorta stressed which defeats the purpose of going in the first place. Sounds like others who have reviewed this place have had better luck.

Came here for a massage today and I could not be more impressed. I’ve been looking a long time for a perfectly balanced spa that is not overly fancy but still nicely decorated and clean, a massage that wasn’t just all about the relaxation, and the most important part– decently priced.
Walking in, you automatically understand the professionalism that this place carries, even down to the first time client form questions. I especially enjoy that you are offered a variety of beverages once your treatment is done, and not just your normal choices of beverage.
I received a deep therapeutic massage from Lucy, who was beyond great and very respectful of my requests for concentration on certain areas. I have forever had crazy issues with crashing stress under my scapula and she really worked my back to knock everything out that has been bothering me!
I have longed for a massage that I can get on a consistent basis to fix my back issues and not burn a whole through my wallet. I plan on coming here for their other services and cannot wait. If you are looking for a place with all of these qualities, I highly recommend this place!

I arrived to Mama Spa and I immediately love the serene atmosphere. It was small and very intimate. Great for first timers. The front desk staff were very friendly and in no time I was introduced to my masseuse. Her name was Helen and she was great. This is my second time receiving a 60 min Swedish massage (1^st time here) and both times I believe I requested a medium massage at times it hurt but you can always let the masseuse know and they will ease up. I loved that she focused on my problem areas a lot. I took one star off because towards the end of my massage it became a little loud, seems like the walls were a bit thin but it still didn’t mess up my time there. I will definitely return.

This is my second time back. I came with my friend and now I brought my boyfriend. I also brought the Groupon deals which are very worth it.
If they were willing to give me that price I’ll just keep coming back with the Groupon.
They are full service and even do hair removal.

I have now been to Mama Spa three times-​each with a groupon for a 60 minute massage and 45 minute basic facial. Each time has been wonderful. The deal is amazing and the spa is very nice. I have to say I was a bit nervous walking by the other «spas» along Allen Street but was very pleasantly surprised by Mama Spa. I plan on purchasing one every time there is a groupon. The first time I went they even gave me a voucher for 50% off my next visit but it unfortunately expired before I could use it.
I highly recommend this place.

It has been a while since my last massage and after recently moving I definitely needed one. I had a deal on Groupon for an hour long hot stone massage. In all honesty, I would have paid the full price for the massage. It was that good.
The front desk staff was friendly and pleasant. One form to fill out and I was right into the massage. I believe my masseuse’s name was Coco.
She did a great job. Found a ton of knots and my tense spots and got rid of them all. The hot stones and hot towels throughout was the icing on the cake. Dozed off once.
They offered a nice refreshing iced tea after and I was on my way.
Overall a great experience and came out feeling refreshed. I will definitely be coming back for a deep tissue. Excellent prices. Highly recommended.

I had a groupon for a basic facial and 60 min massage. Lucy did my facial and it was super relaxing and my face came out looking for shiny and new! (Extractions are not included but can be added at an extra charge). My massage with Helen was probably one of the best ones I have ever had. I like a firm massage the hurts so good and that is exactly what I got. She checked in periodically to make sure she wasn’t hurting me which I appreciated. She was spot on with all of my tension and knots and I walked out of there feeling like a new woman. I will definitely be back with or without a groupon as their pricing and quality of service is 100% worth it. Scheduling might be hard but understand they are busy with loads of groupon offers and just expect to go on an off hour, like Sunday morning when I went, or to wait a few weeks for an appointment. Believe me it’s worth the wait and I am very picky with my spas — I get massages more frequently then id like to admit!

I purchased a Groupon b/​c I needed a massage right then and there after purchase and to my surprise, the receptionist gave me an appointment for 2 hours later. NOT BAD! I was really chancing it, I didn’t expect for such schedule-​convenience.
I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment and I was afraid with the paperwork and groupon-​flashing I might not make it but it was a total breeze!
The receptionists made sure to treat every customer equally and not forget complementaries for Groupon-​users. They were really nice and professional.
MY MASSAGE THERAPIST! Kathy. She’s very welcoming of my presence. I really enjoyed the dim-​lit room I stayed in. I wished there were music and candles. It would’ve created more of a zen ambiance. Kathy made sure that I was comfortable with her level of pressure because it was my very first massage EVER and it was great that she took into consideration of my situation! The massage was great, I loved every minute of it. She took care of the entirety of my body. I didn’t fall asleep though, more like in the state of complete relaxation.

Mama Spa is GREAT! I’ve been here twice and both times with a Groupon for a 60 minute Swedish massage at about $ 35 – 39. The ease of booking an appointment is what did it for me. I did the massages a year apart and both times I’ve booked same day appointments in the morning. The receptionist speaks perfect English so it was a breeze (not that I can’t book in Cantonese, but for other clients… I’m sure this is a plus). The atmosphere for both times was the same: super clean, calm, very dim lighting, and quiet. I do not remember hearing any background music; either that or it was very very VERY faint. My first massage was not as memorable as the second. I actually remembered the second masseuse’s name: TIFFANY (totally recommend her)! Her hands were strong and my massage was fantastic. I’ve been having a rough work week and my back was feeling all sorts of stiff and uncomfortable. Since my massage, it has really loosened up and I’ve slept like a baby. One random thing about the massage was the oil they use. I wasn’t a huge fan of the smell. Although it wasn’t a strong smell, it had this light menthol-​y smell to it (not the menthol feeling sensation, just the smell). If I ever came back, I would probably bring my own almond oil or something more lavender. They do give you a thorough wipe down and I returned to work right after not smelling it at all.
Tax and tip is not included in the Groupon price so make sure you bring cash with you. Tax comes out to be a little under $ 2 and you tip your masseuse in a small yellow envelope NOT ON THE GROUPON PRICE, but the actual price listed (don’t be cheap people!!). I think 18−20% is good so take note of how much you enjoyed your massage!

Ok, this place is amazing has has to be the best value for a quality massage/​spa in the city. Since I moved back to NYC a year and a half ago, I’ve struggled to find a spa that isn’t insanely expensive. When I read the good reviews and saw the $ 70 price tag for a 60 minute massage, I had to give Mama Spa a try.
Booking an appointment over email was super easy. I arrived 15 minutes early to this lovely little spa (it smells amazing as soon as you walk in), and after filling out a short form they saw me right away. Lucy did an amazing job with my massage (deep therapeutic), maybe one of the best I’ve ever had, and was very good about asking me about the pressure. Various portions of the massage concluded with hot towels — so nice.
The treatment rooms are very cute (exposed brick) and clean. The fresh juice at the end is a lovely touch. I’m already planning a return visit for my sister’s birthday.

For the price, you can’t go wrong. $ 70 for a 60 min massage in the LES at a clean facility, hard to find. Came her for a couples massage for the fiancé’s birthday and was pleasantly surprised at how clean the place was.
We headed up to get our massages and I was a little skeeved that there was some sort of sanitary cloth placed over the towels on the massage table — pretty sure this means they don’t clean the towels underneath which is a little gross, but I tried not to think about it too much.
We both had the medium swedish massage and I recommend getting the firm, or at least asking for a little more pressure. Firm is usually a little too much for me, but the medium was way too soft. While it felt nice as it was happening, once the massage ended, my body didn’t feel as relaxed as I hoped. With most massages, it can get a little painful at times, but when you leave, you feel like a whole new person — not quite the experience I had here.
Regardless, I will still come back and give this place another shot. I would definitely opt for the firm massage before I decide to write this place off. Very nice and professional staff, good massages that with a slight tweak would be amazing and a great price. Under $ 100 a person with tip for 60 minutes of relaxation.
