Michael Tavano is an interior designer, product designer and home fashion stylist. He creates residential, hotel, restaurant, office and retail spaces, from a single room to an entire building. He also does event design, real estate staging, model apartments and garden design. Sister company MT Custom creates custom upholstery, window treatments and interior automation to complement Michael Tavano’s designs as well as those of leading design professionals.
History
Established in 1990.
Michael Tavano has been creating designs for the home for decades. He started with his own line of tabletop linens which were sold through major department stores globally, and later opened a custom workroom to create couture quality custom window treatments and upholstery for his own designs and those of top New York interior decorators and architects. In 2012 Michael’s design expertise won him a judge’s chair on the BBC’s popular series House of the Year and as a guest on NBC’s LXTV Open House. He has been featured editorially in The Wall Street Journal, Bön Appetit, WWD, Ebony, Veranda, LUXE Interiors + Design and ELLE Décor. Recent projects in Manhattan include a townhouse, an urban garden, a private diamond showroom, a condominium building lobby and rooftop garden.

Business Owner
Michael Tavano is founder and CEO of Michael Tavano Design. He is an Interior Designer, Product Designer and a consultant to the design industry on their toughest custom decorating challenges through his workroom, MT Custom. Aside form designing living spaces, in Manhattan social circles Michael is known for the elaborately themed pop-up jewel-box dining environments he creates exclusively for Manhattan’s most intimate and elite occasions. Among those who’ve commissioned Tavano’s tables are: Steuben, New York Tabletop Week at 41 Madison, Orrefors Kosta Boda, The New York Design Center and Bloomingdale’s. He has also created dozens of tables for nonprofit events including DIFFA’s Dining by Design, The Red Cross Red & White Ball and The New York Botanical Garden’s Orchid Dinner. He lives in Harlem with his husband and two dogs, Bartley and Brisbee.
