Avi Oz was the manager of another moving company in the late 80’s and early 90’s when he grew tired of the unscrupulous business practices in the industry and decided to start another company.

When Avi launched his company in New York City in 1993, Oz Moving did the unthinkable and put the entire industry on its toes; he put the phone number of the New York State Department of Transportation, the regulating body of the moving industry, everywhere, from the sides of his trucks to every Oz Moving ad. Customers could call the D.O.T. to figure out about the reputation of any moving company.

Oz wanted customers to make informed decisions, and his efforts helped stomp out fly-​by-​night scammers from the business, establishing Oz Moving as an industry leader in reliability, transparency, and customer service.

Moshe and the Oz Team did a excellent job for our move. Moshe and his team (6 guys total) arrived 15 minutes early and from the time they stepped into the apartment they were working. Each took a room and packed it in its entirety. They wrapped all fragile items really nice. Packed our art pieces so that they would not be destroyed. Clothes, shoes and everything else was simply packed very well so that it arrived to our new home in one piece. Moshe made our moving experience so much more stressless! Moshe took our things to storage until the new place is ready for a couple of weeks free storage… which really was s surprise. Now Moshe and his team will deliver everything to our new home this next week. I’ll write another review on that part of the move goes. But as far as I’m concerned, Oz Moving is definitely my only choice now for moving in New York City!

I moved from the 19th floor to the 12th floor of the same building. The guys were great and made this move as smooth as possible. Usually moving is one of the most nerve racking experiences but not this one. I had full confidence that «these guys» know what they were doing and I was right. I will always recommend OZ MOVING !!!

We first hired Oz Moving for an incredibly difficult commercial move: Moving 20 years’ worth of fragile equipment out of a pre-​war building on 42nd St directly across from Grand Central Station to the Brooklyn Navy Yard… in one day. We expected at least one disaster during the move. Oz’s crew insured we had a perfect move! Everything went smoothly!
Since then, I’ve recommended them twice. Most recently, they moved my family to a destination 2,000 miles away. The sales rep gave us a discount for customer loyalty and sent another fantastic team of movers! Once again, it was a fantastic experience. Seriously there is no moving company out there that can compare with price and service.

My sister moved from Brooklyn to San Mateo CA 3 years ago and used Oz, and had a great experience so i decided to use them for a local move w/​in Brooklyn. Ivan and Peter were WONDERFUL, and their two helpers were great as well. They got me out very quickly. I had mostly packed everything except pictures, but there were a few odds/​ends hanging around. They packed these and the pictures very quickly and carefully. They were polite and very easy to work with. Ivan explained all the paperwork to me very thoroughly.
There was a small glitch where the battery in their truck had died but they hustled to get it jumped and we only lost 45 minutes (for which i was not charged) and they got me loaded into my new place before the 5:00 deadline, afterwhich you can’t use the elevator for moving. During the time we were uncertain how long it would take to get the truck rolling Peter was very calm and assured me we would get there and unloaded before 5. And they did. We were unloaded very quickly and came in slightly under the estimate originally provided.

Yesterday was the pick-​up portion of our move from Brooklyn to San Francisco and it was an amazing and effortless experience.
Muhammad and his crew (three guys in total) arrived early (which was great) and were friendly and professional. I showed him our stuff and he walked me through the contract, clearly explaining everything I was signing up for. We actually ended up having a few more boxes and items than were included in the quote. He shrugged and said «I’m not that picky» and there was no change in the quoted cost.
It took my girlfriend and I about three days to get all our stuff packed and situated neatly. The Oz crew got it all out the door and into the truck in about an hour. Muhammad labeled and listed every item carefully and directed his crew efficiently. He even noticed a couple items that weren’t that secure and helped us re-​pack them to keep them safe. He wrapped furniture items in blankets and protected corners and edges with extra pieces of cardboard. I felt totally confident with them handling our stuff.
We were told that their window of arrival was between 12 – 3 and they ended up finishing before noon. So far, we couldn’t be happier with our decision to use Oz.

I actually used Oz about four months ago for a move within Manhattan and was absolutely thrilled by the service I received. I had a lot of concerns in finding a moving company just because a lot of Unilocal reviews were either really negative or seemed to be paid for but Oz’s reviews seemed to be sincere and I’d seen their moving trucks around my neighborhood several times, so I decided to bite the bullet.
My movers showed up when they said they would, moved all my stuff quickly within the allotted appointment, and didn’t try to extend the appointment to charge me extra. If anything, they drove my belongings from my old place to my new place faster than it took me to arrive at my new place to let them in. They also were really careful with my belongings and didn’t break anything or cause any damage. The movers were also super helpful in reassembling my bookcases and bed and even pinpointing the best places to put them, since the floors in my building slope a little.
Oz also charged me about 40 percent less than what other movers quoted. I don’t plan on leaving my place for a looooooong time but if I need to move again within Manhattan I absolutely will call Oz again. I feel very blessed that they provided such great and friendly service and super lucky that I found them, given all the NYC moving horror stories that are out there!

This was the easiest experience I have ever had moving. Two weeks before my Memorial Day weekend move, I called to get a quote. The price was right for such a crazy time of year and they had one spot left (talk about good timing).
Leading up to the move, I was sent an itemized quote, and a confirmation email for the actual move. The day before the office called me to double confirm time etc. I didn’t have to think twice about if they were on it, because they had taken the time to reach out to me in multiple ways.
On the day of the move, the 3 man team was scheduled to arrive between 9 and 10 am for my 1 bedroom apartment move. They arrived exactly and 9 and were able to explain the process, walk through the apartment and start packing the truck within 15 minutes. They all had great attitudes, were professional and polite. Load out was just as smooth, even with lack of parking, and they helped me move furniture around as needed.
Great team over at Oz Moving. HIGHLY recommend and will be using them again for future moves.

I moved within Manhattan for the first time last week and had a great experience with Oz’s service! It was a rainy day but the entire process finished within the predicted 3-​hour slot. I had many boxes and bags of stuff (packing 5 years of life wasn’t easy!), and Morris and Rishan were very efficient throughout the process. The wardrobe closets were especially helpful for holding all my heavy winter jackets and suits. Everything came into my new place intact and there weren’t additional charges that I wasn’t expecting.

Chose Oz for a move within Manhattan last week and my crew were careful, efficient and so nice. I moved a year ago with the exact same stuff/​distance, and Oz managed to finish the job 2 hours faster than the other guys (reducing what I anticipated paying). They were 15 minutes early. I used Oz in December 2015 to move from NY to Texas and I had such a good experience that I will be using them again in the next month for my move from Texas to Georgia.
I was terrified of moving since everything you read in this business is less than comforting. These guys really were efficient and the best part — everything arrived in one piece!
I will say that the best piece of advice I could give is to be accurate with your estimate. They might seem more expensive at first comparison to the rest, but if you’re organized, you can call up until the day before and adjust your estimate. We had initially overestimated our items to pad ourselves and not get hit with any surprises. The day before we called and lowered the number to exactly what we packed and sure enough, our cost went down. Because we were accurate (and organized) — we had no extra costs and the movers were able to get everything in the van quickly. Also, since we really knew what we had and everything was documented well on the sheet they fill out, the drop off was equally as seamless.
Also want to give a shout out to Rafi who drove and delivered our shipment, Kristen S who emailed us to let us know Rafi would be arriving soon and Joseph who helped set up our order in NY. Thanks!

Well, had a pretty horrible experience and don’t think I’ll be using Oz moving ever again.
Movers were so late the first day that they couldn’t deliver my stuff the same day, which meant the contract had to be renegotiated for another delivery the next day.
However, the moving people insisted on flat rate pricing for the new contract given how little stuff I had. It took them less than 30 min to load, and less than 30 min to upload, and they rated trip time as 30 min (which they had to make twice), yet the charged me 750 dollars (which is approximately double the total 3.5 hour rate I was initially quoted).
Additionally, they were late again the next day for delivery…
Annoyingly, they also urinated all over the toilet in both my old and my new apartment, which was pretty gross, and left a bunch of packing garbage behind.
Only bright spot was the person I spoke to on the phone to book the whole thing — he was friendly and competent

I recently used Oz for the 2nd time and I have to say they really did a great job again. They arrived on time, were super careful packing some lamps I didn’t pack and were very neat and clean. They unpacked me very quickly (even putting together my bed they had to take apart for the move) and left the place spotless.
The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars was the extra charges for boxes I incurred. When I ordered boxes ahead of time, the price was a lot less then the few extra boxes the day I moved. Plus they charged me for a TV box which was supposed to be included in the moving charge.
Update: I was contacted by Oz after posting my comments and they looked into the charge on the boxes and refunded me my money. That was very nice and professional of them.

We contacted Oz on the advice of our realtor. While they were not the top-​rated on Unilocal!they proved to be better than those who have a higher rating. Katz refused to come to our apartment for on-​site and the guy who answered was not overly friendly or helpful. That said, Oz was great from start to finish. The first call was super helpful, Ryan came out to our apartment for the estimate and gave us very reason to feel certain they would do a good job.
The real test of any moving company is the «day-​of» experience. On our happiness with Oz in this regard I cannot say enough. Oscar was our crew chief… and he and his team of 5 were simply amazing. I pointed out the most fragile/​valuable pieces and Oscar took care of them himself. Not one item broken or damaged in any way!
The crew was friendly, organized, tidy, efficient and great in every regard. We used Oz for a pack move and unpack. We moved into a 2 year rental in a mid-​town luxury high rise and I know we will use them again when we move out of this apartment. I will specifically ask for the same crew and would encourage you to request them as well. Again, Oscar and his team were the absolute best.

We packed most of our own stuff and Oz handled driving and loading/​unloading, plus packing our furniture and larger items. We moved halfway across the country and two days after we arrived our stuff got here. Manuel was our foreman and he was efficient, experienced, and meticulous with everything — especially with managing his team and with the paperwork. Pedro, the truck driver/​unloading guy, was easy to get in touch with and efficient as well.
Overall it was a great moving experience. Nothing was broken, everything was accounted for, and the employees were easy to work with. No difficulties whatsoever. Best thing is probably that the price was really affordable for the quality of the work. Thanks guys!

We moved cross-​country from Manhattan to LA in August 2015. Overall, we were happy with the service. We had a few broken items, but it was to be expected of a cross-​country move. Their price quote was the most reasonable and we did not have antique furniture to worry about.
— Thumbs up for: when we forgot to include bikes, they were gracious at making the effort to pick them up and add to the storage for the trip at no charge. Thanks for that Oz!
— Thumbs down for: The movers will convince you that FOLDING THE MATTRESS IN HALF would be fine. «It will just flatten out when unpacked» — Do not believe this. Our mattress’s middle section has collapsed springs resulting in a lump spot where they folded.

My sister and I were looking for a moving company to have our stuff moved from New Jersey to California. We weren’t familiar on how it works to have a moving company move stuff long distance. I googled a lot of them and was receiving calls back to back to the point where we were being harassed. One other moving company even texted me and said very rude insulting things to me, telling me I was making a wrong choice if I choose another moving company. It made me very nervous and somewhat scared because at this point I wasn’t sure what company to trust!
Fortunately, I am a Unilocaler, so I decided to search well known moving companies on Unilocal.I came across OZ Moving and read good reviews. I did my research on them and even called and spoke to Steven, he was really great and very helpful answering my questions. He was very patient with me because this was my first time so he allowed me to ask any question I wanted and always called me back.
The quote he gave me was very fair, compared to all the other ones that tried to rip me off. His staff Poppa and Boyan (sorry if I misspelled it) arrived earlier then the appointment time, which was great and they packed up my stuff super quick.
I received a call literally 6 days later from Oz in Los Angeles telling me that I will be receiving my things in 2 days, my sister and I were super excited.
They came and delivered my boxes and even had me check of each box, which was great because I can see exactly what comes in and keep count. However, I give it a 4 star because one of my shelving units were broken.
But I would definitely recommend them to anyone in need of a moving company.

Life savers!!! My roommate and I literally own them our lives!
That’s how I’m going to start this review out. After hiring movers from Craigslist (sketchy and never showed up… Go figure) I called OZ hoping they would be able to accommodate our extremely last minute move. They were and needless to say, we should’ve gone with them from the beginning.
Brandon in customer service was extremely nice and beyond accommodating coordinating with dispatch to find us a moving team with less than 3 hours notice! After a brief hold he told us the good news and that he could have a 3-​man team to us between 4:00pm & 6:00pm. At 4:45pm the most amazing team showed up ready to go!
The customer service was impeccable! Jevon (2437) headed the team and gave us a call letting us know they were 10 minutes out. He, with Quinton (2347) and Rodrigue (2537) following suit, were ready to rock & roll. I highly recommend this particular moving team. They were very fast, yet paid immaculate attention to detail while packing up our 2 bedroom apartment. They broke off and did their separate things like a well-​oiled machine and we were out of our old place in a jiffy.
When we finally made our way down to the new apartment and Jevon had a look at how they would go about moving everything in he was very forthcoming about how the long hike from the truck to the service entrance, up the stairs to the elevator was going to be more time consuming than he anticipated (again, greatly appreciated)!
The boys loaded everything as quickly as they could to the stairs and the move-​in process was lightening fast after the initial unloading and haul to the building. (We really appreciated them taking their time to sort out the most time-​sensitive unloading method, especially at 9:00pm!)
Once everything was near the building Juvon, Quinton and Rodrigue moved everything in efficiently. Even with the late hour they finished (11:30pm) we never once heard them complain and their energy and attitude never dwindled or soured.
To say I recommend this moving service is an understatement; they are literally amazing and life savers.

The LA team did an excellent job with the move out, the actual cross country trip was quick, and the NY team handled things wonderfully on the other side. Oz helped me move within Manhattan just a few hours ago. When I called for a quote one week ago, the salesperson was incredibly friendly and was one of the more reasonable prices I’ve run into and this is after I got maybe 6 quotes from different companies. Four men came to move my stuff. They were very friendly, professional and FAST! I was moving from one studio to another and my new place was a forth floor walkup so I was anticipating a much longer move. Initially the salesperson estimated a 4.5 hour move (they price by the hour) and the actual move lasted 3 hours. Since it took less time, they charged me less than the quoted price. I was incredibly happy with their work and would recommend them to anyone!!!

Oz Moving helped me move from NY to CA in September 2015. The experience was pleasant overall, they were able to secure a move date for me even though I contacted not even a full two weeks prior to moving date.
Movers arrived at my apt in Clifton Park, NY about an hour and a half late, and I’m pretty sure I smelled weed off them. That was kind of funny but I didn’t mind too much because they did show up and do their job. They were pretty efficient and walked me through what I can expect once I arrive at my new place, etc.
I arrived at my new apt in Sacramento, CA, then received a phone call saying I can get my stuff delivered sooner than expected. I was very happy, movers were very professional and efficient, and all my stuff arrived without any dents or breaks.
Things I was looking for during researching online:

Let me begin with saying that OZ Moving was great! I had an office to move and they made the entire process easy. Ron came over to do an inventory check and estimate and provided a fair quote. He worked with my many adjustments and never gave me any issues. Such a great guy to work with. On moving day, the moving manager came early to check out what needs to be packed and arrived back right at the beginning of the moving time frame. His team was quick and efficient. There were no problems at all! Once we got to the new space, they unloaded and organized according to the number on the boxes. Again, quickly and efficiently. The whole time was a pleasure to have around and I will definitely hire OZ again for my next move.

I have moved a lot! And moving sucks! This was my first time using Oz. I looked online for the best moving company from LA to NYC. Oz came up a lot. I took a chance, and expected another annoying next month of my life.
Omg I had the BEST experience! (To me this is like saying I love my drivers license picture). But yes, Thee best moving experience EVER. They were fantastic on both ends. My stuff got here EARLY. No one hassled me to tip more (I’ve always been generous, and still have always dealt with bully movers). They had me take my time and make sure for myself that every box was checked off. They dealt with NYC parking, and a forth floor walk up. No problems. No extras fees. They actually reduced my rate because I had a few less boxes than predicted. I will only ever use OZ again. And (don’t tell them) I won’t even bother pricing out another company. It’s not worth the hassle of broken things and lost boxes and outsourcing my stuff etc. I rarely write reviews on Unilocal.But this was a no brainer.

I have lived in NY, NJ, CA and now in FL and while living in NY/​NJ I had my share of dealing with nightmares of moving companies… dont we all ah ;-)
I have started dealing with the Wizard (s) of OZ NY (and Yes all the employees I dealt with are that good) back in 04 when I moved cross country and that was refreshing.
I learned over the years while my job was moving me around that you get what you pay and every time my employer wanted to save money and took the lowest cost I somehow got to deal with an unpleasant situation.
I learned that all companies have somewhat the same overhead so I learned not to fall into lowballing pricing and false promised and that what I liked the best dealing with these Wizards of OZ.
Price was mid range and up (where other companies will start low and get there anyways) Transit time was better than most but to be honest with all the stress of moving and your life is upside down the thing that matter to me the most was communication !!! the local dispatch called and schedule the pick up portions and afterwords the long distance dept (Kristen, Donna and Or) kept me in the loop and updated. I called a few times with questions and even if they needed to find the answer they called me back without me needing to run after them.
in my eyes communications is the key to it all and these guys really stood up to their reputation.
We all know moving is a messy & stressful thing to go thru and we all know that shit happens as they say especially on moving day but finding a company that cares and actually take pride in what they do is rare.

Sebastian and his team are great. They were so nice and friendly and went through all my boxes to make sure they were securely taped up before they carried them downstairs… and everything arrived in perfect condition. Oz also provides a box and blankets for your TV so it was nice not to worry about that. Lastly, I really appreciate that they had a third person to stay with the truck while the other two loaded all my stuff.
This is the first time I used a legit mover as opposed to some guys with a truck and it was definitely the best moving experience ever. They even finished faster than estimated!

I used these movers once when I was moving from Wall Street to the Exchange Place area in jersey city.
They charge you a travel fee and are EXTREMELY SLOW. The move took almost 4.5 hours which is ridiculous because it’s such a short difference and a past move I made w basically the same things was a longer distance and took under 2 hours.
Not only were they extremely slow but the move was a nightmare, they broke several glasses that were packed very well and marked, they broke a few dishes, and they cracked my plasma tv which ended up not being able to turn on. I didn’t find this out until hours later when we began unpacking. I ended up calling and was told to send pictures but no one ever got back to me.
The movers also ended up getting a ticket because they parked in a no Parking zone. The mover told me I was responsible for it and refused to leave unless I paid for it (I found out later on that I was scammed and that it isn’t my responsibility) I ended up paying it on my credit card and disputing it later. I also ended up disputing the tip after all the problems and not getting anywhere with them.

The Wizards of OZ!
I’ve moved 4 times, once cross country and never had a better moving experience. This company excels at communication and does exactly what they promise. The team headed by Juan was amazingly efficient and courteous. They came early so they could start on time! The apartment was packed up in just over two hours in NYC and delivered to a south New Jersey location just over 3 hours later. Use them, you won’t be disappointed!

DO NOT use Oz moving, trust me. They quoted me @ 350 for a one bedroom move after I told them everything in my apt, and it ended up being 5.5 hrs, during which I came outside to find the movers eating pizza in the truck and the foreman on a personal call for 20 mins… They also ruined my bed by putting a hole in the headboard and paid me .30 per lb, aka $ 30 for a $ 1000 bed.
Slimy company, terrible customer service, very rough with your items… all around brutal company. Steer clear, there are plenty of other options.

Dmitry and his team did a great job moving me. One of the movers (I had 4) was a complete slacker (Dmitry did say he wasn’t a part of his usual crew) and I had to remind him to work nonstop, but everyone else was great.
Quick, efficient and inexpensive. The approximate rate quoted was what I paid (even a bit less) and after pricing out other services, OZ came on top.

When I made the decision to move from NJ to CA, I was hard-​pressed to find a mover. As I sat on River Rd., I glanced over and saw a truck for ‘Oz Moving & Storage.’ What were the chances that I would see a mover in NJ who specialized in moving from NY, NJ, and CA?
I called and got an estimate and from start to finish, that total didn’t change. The movers who came did above and beyond for me and I felt sure that my move would go smoothly. The best part was receiving the call that my items had made it to CA — days before I did! They were able to deliver them to me a week earlier than expected, so I was only one day without my things.
I couldn’t have crafted a better move myself and I am very grateful to Oz for making it such a painless experience. A special thank you to Steven who was always helpful with any questions that I had or any changes that I needed to make.

We waited until our last box was unpacked before we wrote this review — we were in such disbelief that a move like this could have gone so perfectly!
We moved from a 33rd floor, 2-​bedroom apartment in midtown NYC to Cape Cod. There was not one glitch in the entire process. The quote was quick, easy and thorough. The team correctly assessed that 2 trucks were needed (instead of trying for 1 and surprising us with extra charges like other companies have done). A swarm of packers descended upon us on Wednesday morning, packed our entire inventory of belongings and then loaded it onto the trucks — all in about 7 – 8 hours. A crew unloaded the truck the next day on Cape Cod.
The entire team was professional, efficient and respectful. Also — there was not 1 item that was broken (and we have a ton of fragile items).
Finally — the charge was precisely what the quote said it would be. No games. No surprises.
There is always a lot of stress involved in a move. OZ made the actual process the least of our worries, and for that we are very grateful.

We moved sometime last year, one bedroom from midtown west over to midtown east. We opted for the packing also which was a great decision, sure it charged a couple hundred more but when u have a baby everything is just harder. They came the moving day early in the morning and spent the first half of the day packing everything for us. The only instruction we received from them? Unplug the appliances and that’s it, they packed everything carefully and treated some of our cheap ikea furniture as if it’s antique. Every plate and glass was wrapped and double wrapped to ensure its safety during transportation.
Leon was my foremen that day and he did an awesome job, we r moving again end of this month will update my review accordingly.

Just used oz again for the recent move from Manhattan to Long Island. Once again they don’t disappoint. Jerome was my foreman and along with 3 other guys (and Robert the project manager) did a stellar job on the move. I opted for the packing service again and love the way they protect every piece of my junk with massive amount of packing materials. The only thing they broke was one HDMI cable and some silly baby toy they caused $ 1. Considering the amount of stuff I had to move its fine. Awesome experience once again, thank u oz!
