My husband and I recently hired Steven to capture our wedding in NYC. Getting a good photographer was something high on our list of priorities for the wedding, and Steven exceeded our expectations! He was extremely professional — turned up on time (early, actually!) and stayed later than we expected. He took the time to talk to us and get to know us a little which made the whole experience of taking photos a lot more enjoyable. He made us feel comfortable in front of the camera, which is really important for people who are not often photographed. He made great suggestions for photo ideas, and really took the time to come up with creative ways to get lots of great photos. Steven is a great guy to work with, his prices are extremely reasonable considering the quality of his work, and most importantly, his photos are amazing! My husband and I couldn’t be happier with our choice — highly recommended! :)

Steven Wu is an incredibly talented photographer! My S.O. and I made a trip with our family (we live in California) to New York over the summer in May. It was my S.O.‘s first trip and my millionth time to NYC. Our family had already decided that we were getting engaged and having our engagement party this upcoming November. I wanted to make this trip memorable, as it was his first trip, so we decided to do our engagement photos in NYC! I researched photographers almost everyday for a month when I stumbled upon Steven and his amazing reviews!
We don’t regret hiring Steven! He was absolutely amazing! We had been together for 6 years and we never did any type of photo shoot together. Our shoot was on a Friday morning in Grand Central Station and then in Central Park. Imagine a typical Friday morning at Grand Central. It is very, very, very busy and packed. We met up with Steven there and he asked us to go stand in the middle, of what seemed like thousands of people, and go pose. Needless to say, we felt SO awkward doing that. The second Steven started talking to us, we got so comfortable. The whole time we were with Steven, we only noticed him and each other. He made us totally forget how nervous we were and made us forget about the hundreds of people walking by and staring at us. I recall him saying he was in technology or something before he started doing photography but I swear, he must have some training in psychology because he like hypnotized us into feeling so calm and comfortable.
Once he started clicking, we were so calm and at peace. We just focused on each other and the hilarious conversations we were having with Steven. Gosh, he kept us so entertained & happy! He truly is such an amazing man!!! I researched photographers for a whole month and am so glad I found Steven! I couldn’t imagine a better photographer.
And as far as the pictures go, they turned out AMAZING!!! For our first ever photo shoot, they were the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen! NY has such a special place in my heart and I’m so pleased that Steven was the one who captured my S.O. and I’s first trip there!
I would very highly recommend Steven to anyone who is looking to engagement pictures, family photos, party or wedding photography, anything and everything! You will not regret hiring him!

Steven captured the proposal by my fiancé and we are so happy with them! He’s very keen on the lighting and poses us very well. Also, he’s very easy to work with during the shoot; I had just met him and my fiancé corresponded with him prior to our trip in NYC and we were totally comfortable. The proposal only happens once and Steven captured it perfectly. I only heard good things about how easy he was to work with in plotting the surprise and Steven did a great job editing and sending the pictures to us in a timely matter. Our friends were with us and he commented on how nice the cameras were used by Steven.

We commissioned Steven for our October 2014 wedding. From his portfolio, I could instantly tell he has a natural sense of what looks good and what doesn’t, and how to work with lighting to make his subjects look beautiful. He also had some helpful tips for us in planning our wedding. I really appreciated his ability to photograph my husband, me, our friends and families naturally and with our unique personalities. He captured many great and special moments on our wedding day and was excellent and fun company along the way. He worked really hard during our 12 plus hour wedding day and captured so much of it in many pictures, which likely required numerous hours of editing. I appreciated the care and effort he took in editing so many pictures, which reflects his dedication, experience, and professionalism. He edits each picture manually, without use of automatic filters. On our engagement shoot, he had numerous creative ideas and the results were awesome. We liked how he really encouraged us to be ourselves, and helped us to over come «photo fright». I’m genuinely glad that Steven was available to be our photographer. He did a fantastic job and we’re super pleased with the photos.

We are extremely happy to have Steven for our Engagement shoot .He exceeded our expectations from his professionalism, quality of the work, artistry and style. We researched long and was hard to select our photographer and with confidence we can say that we chose the right one.

So where do I start? As if wedding planning isn’t stressful enough– interviewing vendors was the last thing I wanted to do with my time. We had met with a few photographers and I knew within a a couple of min that Steven would be perfect. It wasn’t just his resume but his demeanor and his calm, cool, collected energy that I knew would be perfect for our wedding day. The first time we met, we all sat at Starbucks just chatting for over an hour. That’s just the type of person he is.
On our wedding day, I was running hours late and in a panic but somehow Steven had gotten most of the other pictures done– so even though we only had about an hr to spare, we got everything done and more. He always gently directed us and found the smallest moments to capture. I just got my pictures today and I’m blown away by all the of special moments he’s captured.
I’m so grateful that we had him for our special day– he captured the day so perfectly. People always say that this day flies by– and they’re so right. I’m just so grateful we had Steven to get it all on camera.

Go with Steven! We loved having Steven at our wedding to capture the day. He is a wonderful photographer who really knows what he is doing. He loves photography and it shows in his work. We are so pleased with the final pictures!
I loved that he was never pushy and didn’t have an agenda. He let the day go naturally. He’s a sincere good guy and let me tell you, one needs a nice photographer because they are with you the whole stressful/​wonderful day!
He worked constantly all day long and captured everything. The engagement shoot was a great addition too because we got comfortable with him and the camera. He likes to work with other your vision and even consulted us on the final look (contrast) of the photos before editing. He composed all photos very well, and used the lighting to his advantage! He captured all the little moments in the wedding and we love his still images so much more than the video we received from someone else.
Steven is a true professional. On time, courteous, talented. Book him and you don’t have to worry about anything else.

Thankfully we were able to have Steven as our photographer because my wife and I wanted someone who would capture treasured moments, images of the heart really, and that’s exactly what he did.
Steven took our engagement photos in our local redwood forest, Big Basin, and our wedding photos on a cold super foggy day here in San Francisco. My wife and I wanted wedding photos that weren’t your typical stock wedding photos. And we also didn’t want those photos where people pose like they’re in a glamour magazine or movie poster while wearing wedding clothes. I’m sure you can have those types of photos too but that wasn’t what we were looking for when we brought Steven out for our wedding. He has a great artistic style. We love how everything turned out and the quality of the photographs are awesome!

After what seemed like an eternity of searching for a wedding photographer who we would even consider for our big day, my wife happened upon Steven’s portfolio. Soon after we met with Steven and a few minutes into the meeting we knew we had our man.
I believe his work speaks for itself. What you will not fully realize until you actually deal with him is how comfortable he makes you during one of the most stressful and wonderful days of your life. We could not have found a better photographer. I hope more people discover him.

I hired Steven to secretly photograph my surprise proposal to my girlfriend. He was very easy to work with and exceeded all of my expectations. We planned the logistics days before, and he was punctual (early!) and very generous with his time the day of the proposal. He is very discreet and takes lots of amazing photographs. He sent back a few photographs the day of the proposal so that they could be shared with friends, and a few weeks later, I got over 200 extraordinary photographs documenting the entire proposal. Steven has a great photographer’s eye, is keen on capturing people and surroundings authentically and narratively, and is very skilled at editing photographs. I will be enthusiastically recommending him to all of my NYC friends who are thinking of hiring a proposal, engagement, or wedding photographer.

as most of you shopping for wedding photographers at the moment know, this is quite a time consuming and arduous task. please use this review as an aid to easing your pain.
We found Steven after many hours of online research and countless inquiries with medium to smaller sized institutions. Let’s be real, no one wants to go through a big box photographer as there is less personality and too many canned photos. Steven was very responsive from the get-​go. My wife and I didn’t want to meet with more than 2 or 3 photographers and based on the quality of his published work and the responsiveness to our questions and emails we only met with Steven and one other photographer. I will say, we loved both photographers that we met with and each had their own special talent that set them apart from rest of the lot and from each other. Ultimately it came down to our gut instinct and we just both loved Steven’s work with no hesitation and are very happy we went forward with him.
Steven was very thorough in explaining his background and how he goes about editing his photos. We really appreciated the extra attention to detail that he puts in and that effort translates very easily in the final product. As most people are somewhat self conscious of themselves in pictures my wife and I honestly believed that our engagement photos were going to be terrible. We could not have been happier and pleasantly surprised with the results. The pictures were taken throughout SoHo, the Highline and in Washington Square.
To the wedding: most photographers quoted us 4 hours of time and maybe 5. Steven was with us from the start of the day (9 – 10 AM) and shot photos through the end of the night at ¹⁰⁄₁₁ PM. He was was the consummate professional the entire time. We just got our photos back and there was over 1500 photos! We were expecting maybe 400 – 500. We loved them all. No joke.
It’s cliché’d but the #1 piece of advice we got from others married before us was to make sure you get the photographer right. My advice to you is do the same. We got it right with Steven and we can’t thank him enough for giving us a beautiful record of our wedding day.

Being the New Yorker, he is always 10 steps ahead of everyone else to capture all the little moments. He really has a passion for photography, and he would not allow any important scenes to go without being shot. We truly appreciated it and knew that he cared when he asked us to re-​do some scenes so he could get the perfect shot. He would work and forget to drink water and eat for the whole day if no one reminded him. All my guests were raving about him without even seeing his pictures.

Steve is is truly passionate about his craft. He shows a sense of empathy in his subjects to try and get a better sense of their personality in his shots, taking the time to get to know you before the beginning of any shoot.
On the day of our wedding, Steve took the time to go with us to several earmarked venues over the day, including City Hall, Central Park, the West Village and Brooklyn.
He was patient and methodical, without being overbearing. My wife and I were very happy with the results. The shots look great, were produced in reasonable timeframe and were excellent value. I have recommended him to other friends and would continue to do so.

I chose Steven after a very long and drawn-​out search for our City Hall wedding. After researching dozens of photographers, the choice was actually quite easy. Not only did we feel the quality of his portfolio was at least as good as anybody else’s, but his quoted rate was very reasonable compared to the competition. Steven was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire experience, friendly, courteous, engaging, perceptive, and very hard working. He ended up over twice the number of pictures that I had initially guessed and even made multiple editing effects for some of the particularly memorable photos. On a rainy day and being inside, it was definitely a more limited and challenging environment to shoot for. Nevertheless, Steven exercised his creativity very well, and we ended up with a great variety of interesting photo opportunities. I felt he truly maximized the potential of the surroundings. Finally, for those who care about the quality of camera gear used, rest assured Steven came armed with absolutely world-​class Leica and Canon setups. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed working with Steven, and couldn’t have asked for more regarding the experience.

Steve was our wedding photographer and I must highly recommend him to anyone looking to ensure fantastic photos. Steve is easy to work with, friendly, smart and you can tell he loves his craft and will work and trudge through thicket backwards and upside-​down if needed to get that magical shot you want or didn’t even know you wanted until you’ve seen it. When finding the right photographer to capture your event, one often selects the photographer based on his portfolio but that’s only half of it. Being able to establish a great relationship is one of the most important things to consider when selecting a photographer for your event. You want a photographer that you’re comfortable with and one that knows your personality well enough to capture you at your best. No awkward poses or artistic angles gone wrong.
Steven was highly recommended by a good friend of mine. Steven’s photo-​journalistic style was exactly the look we wanted for our wedding photos. As hobbyist in photography, I had really high expectations and was nervous meeting him for the first time. After spending some time getting with Steven, the nervousness that my wife and I had felt quickly faded away. After sharing some ideas with Steven about our engagement shoot and wedding we came away confident that we had selected the right guy.

Our wedding day was nothing less than perfect. Those who’ve been through a wedding know that timing is very crucial. Steven and his assistant showed up early to capture our pre-​wedding preparations. While working with our schedule of events, Steven worked efficiently and finished our photos with our friends and family so that we could actually partake in our cocktail hour. That almost never happens. Steven had also made sure give the right amount of attention the event and guests to help capture the moment.
Our wedding night was such a blur I often look back on our pictures to reminisce. When I do, I’m immediately taken back to that special day. On and behind the scenes.
