This tour was AWESOME!
I’m a NYC resident and took the tour because I wanted something different and fun. I was blown away by all the cool facts I learned. From start to end, it was really a great experience. My favorite stop had a food and beer pairing which was awesome. In fact, there were a few people on the tour who didn’t realize they liked stout beers until that stop!
Our guide Nick was hilarious and did a great job making sure everyone was having an awesome time. I would highly recommend this to out-​of-​towners, or long-​time New Yorkers!

DO go if you want a really fun, immersive history of New York beer culture with a really great guide — ours was Matt, who was fantastic.
BONUS — they even dropped you off anywhere along the way back that was more convenient to the people on the tour rather than forcing everyone back to Eataly.

I bought tickets for the Beer and Brewery tour as a Christmas gift. I was very worried that either the tour would end up being a tourist trap or not worth the price, this was not the case!
The groups are kept at a small number, which (alongside the beer) helps with the bonding! Most of our tour was made up of couples in their 20s/​30s, but most everyone was friendly and outgoing. From the first stop Chelsea Piers I knew I had struck gold. The owner gave the best brewery tour I’ve ever had, explaining the process in an entertaining yet informative way. Then we got on the bus to start our tour and our guide, Nic, was FANTASTIC! You do spend a good deal of time on the bus (which is necessary given how out of the way some of the stops are), but you’d never know it! He kept us entertained the whole tour with fun facts, history, little artifacts, and trivia. It was a blast! And then after the tour, he proved even more accommodating, dropping us anywhere along the route back that he could. (We ended at McSorley’s with some of our other tour mates).
I had also been worried about the «no buying extra beer» rule, but I should not have been! There are samples galore and snacks galore which kept us all on a happy buzz. Overall this tour easily surpassed my expectations, and all my pessimistic worries were unfounded. If you like beer and breweries, this is a must do!

My wife and I recently took the tour and had the best time. Our tour guide, Nick, was really fun, funny and extremely knowledgeable. The tour is very well thought out and includes a great mix of learning, laughing and drinking. Nick was AWESOME at leading us through the history of beer in NYC while still be extremely funny and entertaining. The beers at each place we stopped at were top notch and the pairing was really nice in the middle of the tour. I highly recommend this for beer lovers or just anyone looking for a really fun and interesting way to learn more about New York City and it’s rich beer history. Thanks to Nick and Marshall for putting together such a great tour.

I love a good beer and also love exploring New York City. This tour provided both of those things in one. The day was a good mixture of beer how-​to, interesting New York beer history, exploration of various New York neighborhoods, good laughs, and, of course, some really good brews. My favorite part was driving through different neighborhoods in Brooklyn where old beer brewing factories can still be found and being able to look back into New York’s past. Also great was the food and beer pairing half way through the tour. Very tasty! I would definitely recommend this tour as a great way to learn about the neighborhoods and history of New York while also having a very enjoyable day.

I had a blast on The Beer and Brewery tour! Each stop had something new to experience and there was great camaraderie developed between all the guests on the tour. I’d probably say that the food pairing at Spuyten Duyvil was one of my favorite spots. The beer they picked for us was varied and great, but the meats and cheeses (and chocolate!) were also very yummy. I was also surprised how much I enjoyed the ride to each stop. Along the way, our tour guide pointed out some fascinating historical sites complete with stories and NY and beer trivia. A great value for the day we had!

My wife and I took the Beer Tour a few weeks ago during a visit to NYC from Providence, RI. It was a great way to spend the afternoon. The tour began at the Chelsea Piers Brewery, where we met the tour guide, Marshall. After a behind-​the scenes look at the Chelsea brewery and a sampling of some the beers and bar snacks, we boarded a nicely appointed van that took us to a variety of bars and beer halls in Brooklyn and Queens. The tour guide was extremely friendly and knowlegable about beer and all things New York. I particularly liked that he provided some history about the neighborhoods and sites that we visited. I love beer, but even if I didn’t, the tour still would have been worthwhile. It’s a great way to see parts of Manhatttan, Queens, and Brooklyn and learn about the city and how it evolved over time. My two favorite stops on the tour were Spuyten Duyvil, a Brooklyn bar with an incredible selection of craft beers, and the Czech beer garden in Queens. Highly recommended.

I knew I wanted to do something out of the ordinary for my 30^th birthday that my mixture of friends and family (ranging from 22 to 40 yrs old) would enjoy. I had originally set out to find a wine tour that would interest the 21 people I had in mind, but then it dawned on me, there had to be, somewhere out there, a beer tour. That’s when I started googling and found The New York Beer and Brewery Tour. I emailed Marshall upon finding the tour and received a couple of informative responses. After we went back and forth trying to figure out how the tour could be adjusted to fit my needs, I was able to not only secure a date, but close it to the public upon prepaying. This was important to me because I wanted to ensure that the tour would have a private feel.
Now, before I begin. Picture this. It’s October. Halloween weekend in fact. Of course… you expect brisk, fall weather. What you don’t expect is to be hit with the first major snowfall of the season. But, that is what we were dealing with. The weather alone could have and almost did ruin this experience, but, Marshall and my group of friends and family turned what felt like could have been a disastrous time, into a lasting memory for all.
Upon arriving to the first stop, Chelsea Brewery, we were given a variety of their craft beer as well as an intensive history of the brewery by the brewmaster, who was superb. We then made our way to the 24 passenger tour bus, but not before Marshall supplied each of us with a fresh homemade pretzel from Sigmund. Stop #2 would be Brooklyn Brewery. Here we were each given one token to taste a pint of our choosing and had about 40 minutes to hang out. Since we had more than enough time to sample a few more, we took the opportunity to do that. An official tour of Brooklyn was not included, and although it might have been a great addition, it also most likely would have been redundant. Next stop, Old Brewers Row, in Brooklyn! It was here that Marshall drove us around and told us the history of many of the buildings, pointing out old breweries while quizzing us in trivia and passing around beer bottles and pictures of the decades to get a feel for that period of time. Stop #3 would be at Spuyten Duyvil, a brew pub, where we would get a food/​beer pairing. This was my favorite part of the tour. We were able to taste 5 different beers and were left plenty of time to stay at the bar to hang out for a little and enjoy each others company. The last stop on the tour was Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden in Astoria. We had anticipated being able to spend time in the Beer Garden, but since mother nature decided that October was a good time for the first snow fall, that didn’t work out. We had just as good a time indoors and each got a pint or two there along with some traditional Czech food.
You should get an overall feel from my review for the tour, but you still may be questioning what makes NY Beer & Brewery stand apart from the rest. It was Marshall. Marshall was attentive to and aware of each individuals needs throughout the tour. He made sure all 21 of us were happy, whether it was asking if there were any dietary concerns or if we could see the detailing of the buildings on Brewer’s Row. Marshall cares about the reputation of his tour and those who spend months (me) looking forward to it! Not once did I feel like I was dealing with a commercial tour that simply wanted to get through the 4 hours as quickly as possible. He was able to make my 30^th birthday memorable for not only me, but the 20 others who spent it with me! Each one of us would recommend this tour! And for that… CHEERS!

I took the Beer and Brewery Tour back in the spring as part of a small group with our tourguide, Marshall. As someone who rarely drinks beer, I was suprised at the variety we were able to try and that I actually enjoyed several! We visited several locations throughout the city and boroughs and learned alot about the history and culture of the industry and New York itself. Marshall generously prepared us each a few treats to nibble as we traveled to each of our destinations. But the beer and food pairing at Spuyten Duyvil was especially enjoyable with several combinations of beer and food to sample.
This tour is an amusing and engaging way to learn about beer, NYC history, and make new friends. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great weekend activity with a break from the norm.

Being born and raised in NYC, I tend to avoid tours of my city. However, for my boyfriend’s birthday I decided to give this tour a chance and am very happy I did! Not only do you get tipsy by the end of the tour, but you get to eat yummy food and learn a lot about the history of breweries and beer in NYC. The tour guide, Marshall, was beyond friendly and really catered to everyone on the tour. I would highly recommend this to tourists and New Yorkers alike, and am considering doing this again with my friends who come to visit. For the hours of entertainment, booze and tour, this was well worth the $ 100! If you have not done this tour already, I highly recommend you check it out. Here are more details about the tour itself: The tour is $ 100 per person for about 4 hours of entertainment and booze. The tour takes you in an air conditioned comfortable van to Chelsea Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, Spuyten Deyvil and Bohemian Beer Garden, as well as several landmarks related to the history of beer in NYC. You are served food throughout the tour, which is good for soaking up all the booze you drink! As a bonus you get a «goody bag» of nuts, a beer glass, water, a delicious pretzel, and information!

I took this tour with my girlfriend and my cousin last year during thanksgiving. My girlfriend knows very little about NY, I know more than her, but not by much at all. And my cousin has lived there his whole life. So we had a nice little spectrum of knowledge and know-​how about the city between the 3 of us. Well not really, we went from zero to 100 pretty fast, but… we had novices and experts in the mix.

I can’t quite remember all the places we stopped at… but, for the price, the information and the samples and company we had through the entire tour, I would do this tour again hands down. Marshall (who runs the company) is a very nice guy who knows a lot about beer and does a great job sharing the info without making it seem like a boring lecture.
I told all my friends about it when I got back, and will probably do it again… not because I want to learn about the beer again. I got it the first time around :) Its a great way to get taken around the city, drink some delicious beers and food, and enjoy some nice company. Marshall also shared some extra bits of knowledge that went beyond beers and breweries.

As a lover of beer (and all things NYC) I not only found this tour unique and informative, but I probably also enjoyed one of the best soft pretzels of my time. Marshall and his partner were entirely eager to answer all of our questions and were very kind to make sure that everyone in our group was catered to with respect to food, drink and any other need that was required. my favorite spot was spuyten duyvil by far (specifically the porter of which i forget the name) and they were able to pair up special cheeses with each round. we did leave a bit tipsy as intended and i’d like to note that the driver was cool enough to drop us off at different points in manhattan which was quite convenient. if you are looking for something different than a typical NYC tour, this is highly recommended. i would also like to say that this turned in to way more than just a beer and brewery tour as both marshall and his partner gave out all sorts of historical and NYC related information which was an added bonus. please spread the word!

I had a great time on this tour. The tour guides (Marshall and Marty) took us from a brewery in Manhattan to Brooklyn to Queens. We stopped at a number breweries some still active, some now defunct, sampled numerous beers, checked out funky out-​of-​the-​way places with great food and beer, and learned a lot about the history of beer-​making in New York (and there is a rich history most people don’t know about). The tour topped it all off at a beer garden in Astoria. If you like learning, and New York, and drinking beer, this tour is for you.
