History

Established in 2012.

There exists a major disconnect between that which is designed and that which is realized. TW2M Design/​Build LLC aims to bridge the gap between the design world and the built world through research, experimentation, design and construction.

Located in New York, TW2M was founded in 2012 by twin brothers Bassem and Wassim Shaaban. TW2M is a design /​build studio that features the collective work of multidisciplinary design professionals who value diversity and collaboration. The practice offers a wide variety of services at multiple scales and values, functionality and efficiency, as well as continued experimentation and innovation.

The TW2M Design/​Build approach ensures that the built product is never an afterthought – it is designed from the beginning. Meet the Business Owner

Bassem and Wassim S.

Business Owner

Bassem Shaaban

earned both his BA in Interior Design and his MFA in Design from Howard Univ where he specialized in furniture design, for which he has acchieved acclaim. An active Interior Designer, Shaaban has significant project management and design experience. He excels in client meetings, technical feasibility knowledge, and detailing. Before co-​founding TW2M, Shaaban worked for Howard University’s Graduate Sculpture Studio, designed for the Smithsonian Institution and managed multiple commercial/​retail design projects in NY.

Wassim Shaaban

holds a BArch degree from Howard Univ and a MsAUD from Columbia Univ GSAPP. He has significant on-​site fabrication and on-​site construction experience, and prior to establishing TW2M, Shaaban worked for Columbia University’s Laboratory for Applied Building Science and Urban Design Lab. Shaaban’s research and development interests encompass social architecture and affordable housing, as well as waste management and new building systems.
