Bloom Pest Control

I hired Bloom to repair my leaking crawlspace after having gotten several other bids. Nathan was the only one who actually went into the crawlspace with a flashlight and looked around to deduce what was going on in my particular situation, took measurements inside and outside and then came up with a plan that would work best for me and was cost saving. He also gave a detailed breakdown of all the charges. Nathan and his crew were professional, personable, and communicated clearly at all times from beginning to end. They showed up on time and finished the job in a timely manner. I have never gone online to write a review until now… that’s how impressed I was with Bloom Pest Control! I will not hesitate to highly recommend this company to anyone who has a leaking basement.

Discovered a few inches of water in part of the crawlspace under the house. Called around for a couple of bids to get advice/​comparison shop on how to get rid of the water. Bloom sent someone out. Explained to him that the water in the crawlspace was one-​time, situation-​specific situation – not broken pipes, not damaged sewer line, not shifting flood plain. We’d solved the cause of the outside water leak and now just needed to get the water out.
Guy from Bloom went under the house to look around – he had the advantage here because we couldn’t go under the house to look for ourselves, we had to trust what he told us. He took close-​up pictures of specific problems. Under the guise of shmoozing he hard core scared/​upsold us about what would happen if we didn’t go with his proposed plan, which involved digging a trench around the entire interior of the crawlspace, installing a pump (not a temporary pump, no, he insisted we needed to purchase and permanently install a pump and drainage system, to be prepared if this ever happens again.)
Then he moved on to the «major rodent infestation» He says most of the insulation has been torn off the heat ducts by rodents which used it for nests, now soaked in pee and feces. He tells us it’s really warm under the house because we’re losing heat through the ducts, which are now exposed because of the rodent infestation. He says he’ll «include in the bid removal of all of the insulation from the ducts, both what the rodents have used for nests and what’s still wrapping all our ducts, «because the rodents run along the ducts and pee and poop on the insulation above the ducts which will begin to smell up your house.»
He says he’ll include in the bid an ongoing rodent control service.
He says he’ll also include in the bid the cost of his subcontractor coming out to replace all of the insulation, at a per foot cost.
He said the rodents had displaced the vapor barrier in a couple of places. He said the whole thing had to go and a new one put down. He’d include that in the bid, too. «It’s so much easier to get everything done all at once by one contractor,» he says.
He said he would do his best to cut us a break and get the bid in under $ 5000.
We were suitably panicked until the next company sent someone out to look, about 24 hours later. He also took lots of pictures, though they were long shots of the whole space. «What water? Who told you you have water under there?» Point being that opening all the foundation vents for a day-​and-​a-​half was enough to get the water to evaporate all by itself. Which means there probably was some water under there when the Bloom guy looked, but nothing that would warrant digging trenches, or purchasing and installing a permanent pump and drain system. Hard not to think the Bloom guy knew the water would dissipate with a good airing out.
«What about the rodent infestation?» we asked the second guy. He says, «I hardly ever go under a house around the metro area that doesn’t have some sign of squirrels or mice. It doesn’t look so bad to me. You can put out some traps and probably need to get rid of the bird feeders.»
«What about the insulation on the heat ducts?» we asked. He didn’t see a problem; the heat ducts are still wrapped in insulation/​securely covered with plastic. The insulation the Bloom guy saw was from the underside of the floor. «Wouldn’t hurt to put some more back up.» says the second guy
Mother Nature took care of the water, we’ve set some traps, and for $ 200 we got the nests cleared out, patches of missing insulation replaced under the floor, and some new visqueen put down on the exposed area of dirt in the crawlspace.
UPDATE: I got the written bid from Bloom Crawl Space Services/​Bloom Pest Control. Glad to see he removed the digging of a trench around the perimeter, and permanent installation of a drainage system and pumps, in my crawlspace. You’d think that would drop the quote quite a bit. Nope, the bid was over $ 7500 for the other stuff.
I can’t speak to the quality of Bloom Crawlspace Services/​Bloom Pest Control’s work if you have a legitimate need which you have taken extra steps to verify, but I wouldn’t hire them or recommend them based on my experience.

I had a huge wasps nest in my crawl space. I called on a Friday morning, Alex came that afternoon, After about an hour of dealing with 7000 wasps and their mansion they had built in the corner, he did the job. Very professional people to deal with, great price, great service. Can’t recommend these guys enough.

We needed our crawlspace cleaned up. The team was quick, quiet, professional, friendly, diligent… what other words can I find to say how great they were?
It was obvious that they enjoy their work and take pride in a job well done. We would use them again without hesitation.

Unfortunately we were taken advantage of by this company in a home purchase situation. Charged $ 4000 for nothing but demo work to rip out insulation/​vapor barrier and seal vents for rodent problem. No install of any kind. Removal of debris was charged too and now that we own the house we discover the debris was left down there. The quotes we’ve received to do skilled work of actual INSTALL of insulation/​vapor barrier down there now are the same or less than they charged to rip it out, install nothing, and leave a mess.

Amazing, fast, friendly, professional service! Discovered to my horror, a HUGE wasp nest swaying away in our vacationing neighbour’s tree — mere metres from my bedroom window — and found Bloom after a quick google search. Their site stated an emergency number to call for service right away, and I talked to a really sweet dispatcher named Katie, who put the call out and contacted me back right away to say a technician was on his way very shortly. Nathan arrived within the hour and was very nice and professional. He agreed it was definitely a big nest! He took it out very quickly and even let me take a photo to show our neighbour what we did for her lol! He also took out a little inactive nest above our front door and very considerately moved a flowerpot back in front of the gate he went through to ensure the neighbour’s dogs did not escape. The cost was very reasonable and I would definitely call Bloom and Nathan again if need be, but hoping we don’t need to! Highly recommend, great people, great service. Thank you VERY much for such a quick response and action, I am most relieved to have that scary thing gone, and so is my neighbour!

This company is the best!
First — they were able to send someone on the same day of my discovery of a huge hornet nest surrounded by nests of wasps. I did not have to wait for days and days. I saw the nest in the morning, called the company by noon, and had someone in early afternoon coming over for evaluation of the problem
Second — the person who came (Nathan) did fantastic job! He came twice because beasts were too busy earlier. He also did some extra work, and did not charge for extra trip and some extra knocking off nests. He took precaution to prevent contamination of water for animals by insecticides (again, did not charge me for that) .
Third — it looks to me that they focus on doing the best, not just the minimum necessary. He turned around and did the second and the third «look around» just to make sure that he did not miss any nests.
I am really pleased with results and with the fact that he used insecticide with repellant.
Again, I can’t speak highly enough of this company.
The experience was fantastic!

Sadly I did need Bloom again, this time for both sugar ants and carpenter bees. The service was top-​notch, and they were MUCH cheaper than companies I used at my old house. We are now using them for routine spraying.

We have worked with other pest control companies in the past. Not one of them measured up to the level of service that we have received with Bloom! Seth has gone above and beyond to help us rid our home of sugar ants and bees. He explained everything up front and was very thorough. Bloom has won this families business for life! Thank you!
