The Bug Man

I have not needed pest exterminators often. Only once before. But whenever I encounter a new business I need, I look at the user experience design and the design of the business. And I look at Unilocal!That’s where I found the Bug Man.
First, the initial contact for pests or infestation. It is usually by voice phone. The customers are almost always in a state of crisis because their home in being invaded by creatures! Like a scary movie, but oh so real!
Do you text, email or FB message 911? «You have reached the 911 voice mail, we are busy, but you can leave a message. We will get to when we get to. Or call back later».
NO! You want action! Because you are being invaded!
Unlike several Unilocal-​listed businesses, The Bug Man, actually the wife of the Bug Man, picked up the phone. They were sympathetic, informational and realistic. They don’t promise to pick up the phone for everyone though.
If you look at the economics of any business, there are costs. Answer the phone $ 1 a minute. Sending a person for an estimate or treatment $ 100 transportation and vehicle. Doing the job $ 100/​hour. Seems high, but that includes buying trucks, office, headquarters, materials, taxes, insurance and extra icing, living wages and employee benefits. The Bug Man is at the more economical end of that reality equation.
So calibrate your expectations of cost, because you are paying for all of that and for every pre-​customer call or on site estimate that did not complete the transaction.
We scheduled a mutually agreeable time.
The Bug Man arrived with assistant. The bug men. With pests there is a strategy, immediate elimination and longer term elimination. Keep in mind that «eco» pest treaters are immediate, but not long term. I called the Bug Man because «eco» was a fail. But you don’t want million year elimination that will kill you and a million generations either!
The Bug Man injected intermediate time insecticides into the walls and sprayed about 3 month insecticide on the foundation. Bug Man also sprayed «eco» hour-​acting insecticide where the bugs were. You can inquire about the «half life» of these toxics and make you own decision.
Another variable is the pricing of retreatment and a guarantee of no return by those pests. That increases the price significantly. More trips more hours. You are transferring all the unknown and devious risk of pest habits to your exterminator. A million trips and a million applications, there is a cost to that. I did not choose, because planned remodeling will allow me to get completely into the space occupied by those bugs.
The Bug Man also provided good information on the habits of carpenter ants. Apparently they are particular. They only like doug fir, particularly old growth, no hardwoods. Maybe there is a Unilocal for ants on where to dine?
The Bug Man, drawing from industry priced pesticides is a great professional — communicative and reasonably priced!
Called ahead on arrival timing, arrived on time. killed ‘em dead!

I can’t recommend Dave enough. He’s reasonable (though I don’t really have much experience to compare bug services) and honest. He missed a small spot way high up in our condo complex and came right back out the same day to spray it even though I said he could skip it when I called him. Seems like Dave and crew are the best thing going it bug repellant services!

We’ve been using The Bug Man for almost four years and are so happy w/​the service. We are on a regular rotation for bug control and prior to the apt. they call to confirm, show up on time and leave w/​out interruption. We appreciate their prompt, professional service, attention to detail and most importantly, they remember when we are due for service so I don’t have to. If you have an issue with bugs, insects, ants, whatever, I highly recommend The Bug Man.

Honest. Professional. Value conscious. And Dave the owner has such a delightful sense of humor, you want to keep him around as your court jester. I have recommended Dave and his crew to numerous friends. Nobody has been less than satisfied. In an industry with a fair share of flakes, Dave is a diamond. He lives up to his word, knows his profession and is in this business for the long haul. He will do you right.

The Bug Man has been helping us keep the bugs away from our house for a few years now. They are incredibly reliable, always call us to catch up on our spraying appointments and call to make sure you are satisfied. Every exterminator that has come to my home has been incredibly professional, friendly and just an all around trustworthy person. Not your typical service attitude I guess. We had a situation a few years ago with carpenter ants coming into our home and have been with them ever since. They are always very knowledgeable and can give you advice on generally any pesky bug situations you might have. I give them a full 5 stars for excellent, professional service!
