Semi-​clean, but there were still puppy poop smears and pee puddles left about. When I asked to clean after the puppy we were meeting, she pulled the pup by her collar across the floor, then on her way out slide puppy out of the doorway with her foot. She was it very patient or respectful to the pets here. I felt awful that we couldn’t take every dog home with us and out of here.

Natalie was extremely rude. She spoke to me in a demeaning tone. I’ve never been treated so badly at a store! I’ve bought two dogs from here and I will not buy the third. There is no excuse to treat customers badly when they are coming to BUY! She rolled here eyes, talked badly about me to the other works, and refused to help me. I will take my business elsewhere. I’m disappointed and saddened because I fell in love with a puppy there but I refuse to give them more business. I hope the owner realizes the liability.

Terrible service told me that I could not take out a dog to see bc you had to be very likely to buy? Whatever that means!

Pups here were healthy and much to the credit of the staff, the dogs and the place smelled very clean. That is not an easy thing to do in a kennel. Any pup is cute here. but no pups were AKC. Dont be fooled by fake puppy mill registries. It is not the pet store that is bad, but the B.S. fake registries. Only buy AKC PUPS WITH OFA CHECKS. Several dogs were marked down because they were older, and those price points around $ 400, is too high. My golden is a champ AKC bloodline and she was only $ 650. The reason pet stores have non akc pups is that the markup is high. They pay $ 150 for a non akc pup and sell it for $ 1250. An AKC pup from a breeder is $ 500 wholesale. HAPPINESS IS PETS SHOULD BUY AND SELL AKC ONLY

I am a dog snob. Truthfully, I’m an everything snob. This is not news. If you tell me you got your «purebreed-​champion» (misspelled on purpose) «choxie» from a private breeder I know you mean petland. I’m judging you. But I don’t blame your dog.
I used to work for a store like this. Back before I went to college and had some basic education. I will tell you I used to feed people a load of lies too. «Oh no, these puppies are from private breeders, not puppy mills!» This is crap. And completely wrong. But like I said, I was uneducated at the time.
To spell it out. Absolutely NO respectable, ethical, responsible breeder will EVER sell their puppies to a pet store. EVER. Yep… NEVER. Think about it. If you love your dog and it had babies would you send those babies off to sit in a glass fronted cage that is banged on for 10 – 12 hours a day by screaming, snotty kids? Would you let those babies go to homes and people you never met? Ummmm… NOPE!
Do yourself a favor and actually research a breed you want, find a good breeder, with references, who gives you a hard time about taking one of her puppies. Do this because it means she actually cares about her dogs, takes good care of them, probably knows a little about genetics, heredity, and lines.
Don’t tell me your CKC dog has «papers.» It doesn’t. CKC is a completely fabricated, disgusting organization. I probably won’t even waste an eye-​roll on you. But I will pity your dog.

As I’m now more educated on puppy mills and the connection to pet stores, I would prefer direct from the breeder. That being said, I’ve had three great german shepherds. It seemed like one was better than the last. My last one was bought at this store. He was four months old and on deep discount. He was the best dog I’ve ever had. Healthy, intelligent, etc. Most german shepherds reach 10 – 13 and this one lived to 14. Just shows there’s an exception to the rule.

Stores like this literally breed misery! WHO wants to be a part of that? When the mills are closed down these puppies with be taken, rehabbed, vetted so that they are social and healthy. Don’t worry about them finding homes, worry about the sick, dying and discarded ones that are in these mills. When they are sick bleach water is put on their wounds or if they are dying they are put in a special barn to seize for days and eventually die. Mothers are bred until their teeth fall out and they never know the joy of human companionship and love because they are considered livestock. These are all verified truths. NOW, WHO would ever want to be a part of THAT? Especially people that profess to love animals?!

Some people are so ignorant. Just because a store says they come from breeders, that doesn’t mean the breeders don’t run a puppy mill. It’s true this store only cares about profit and not the health or happiness of the dogs. I’ve gone into the Orland Park location several times only to see small lethargic puppies crowded in small glass cages, often looking far too young to be away from their mothers. There seems to be sadness in a lot of the puppies eyes and I rarely ever see anyone playing with the puppies. If that isn’t enough, I’ve had person experience with one of their puppies. My first golden retriever, Buddy was an amazing dog from this store, however at the young age of 6 he died of hereditary kidney failure. The other reviewers are right, the mothers of the puppies are kept perpetually pregnant in small cages and obviously this greatly reduces their quality and length of life. You are more likely to have a puppy with health problems considering they do not get what they need from their mother’s after being ripped away from them far too early. Please everyone, instead of fueling and funding puppy mills and greedy puppy breeders fund your local shelters so we can control animal populations, educate on adoption, and support anti euthanasia shelters. Consider adoption.

I know, I know.
I do not agree with Pet Stores and how the animals are kept in cages all day etc. but my husband and I came in here just to look and we ended up buying a 10 week old Siberian Husky. The truth is, these stores will continue to exist and in my opinion, dogs deserve to have a chance to go into a good home here as well as any other place.
I had this overwhelming connection with the puppy and the want to get him out of there and give him a good home. The staff was super helpful and very laid back.
We bought a crate here and it came with food, toys, brush, shampoo. A very good value. We also got a free vet visit within 7 days.

Stop Puppy Mill Patrons!!!

It’s a pet store. That’s all I should have to say. But for those of you who don’t know what pet stores do… the mothers of these little puppies have probably never seen daylight or even grass. They are kept in cages and artificially inseminated over and over again. They give birth to litter after litter. The pups are taken away way too early. Puppies from pet stores have never been socialized and they tend to have a lot of health problems.
A friend of mine bought a dog from Happiness is Pets and the dog wasn’t even the same breed as they had advertised.
If you have to have a purebread dog, don’t be lazy. Do your research and go to a qualified breeder for a puppy.
