Murray believes, «photographic portraiture is a collaborative art form, a blending of my vision, style and perception with the needs, expectations and souls of the people to be portrayed. Bringing out a person’s essence is the ultimate challenge in photography.

Within these relationships we create a safe, comfortable space to transcend the surface candidly, creating honest, sensitive and meaningful portraits. I encourage a full range of personal expression to unfold; sometimes a single photograph tells the story and other times a series of images evolves to portray the whole of the being. The results culminate in beauty.

Bay Area Photographer, Murray Rockowitz, well known among collectors of fine art portrait photography for his insightful and beautifully crafted B&W portraits, has served private and commercial clients throughout the world for over 25 years. As a photographer, he is not only an artist but also storyteller and a documentarian. Murray shares his passion for and knowledge of photography; having taught at Napa Valley College, and currently through the Petaluma Arts Center, Excel, workshops in his studio and other venues to inspire, teach and learn with his students. Murray has exhibited his photography in numerous one person and group exhibitions throughout his career in museums, galleries and various alternative spaces.
