Kevin was amazing!
After coming back from a trip and being bitten by something, I called Kevin. Rather than coming over for an inspection, like I wanted, Kevin convinced me to wait and see if an inspection is actually needed.
In the meanwhile he explained and gave great tips — on the phone, for no charge — and I called a couple of times. Each time he was pleasant, patient, answered all my questions, and helped! not to mention put me mind at ease.
We ended up not needing his services, but if we ever do, Kevin will be our address.

We had a bedbug problem that lingered to the point where my wife was ready to burn our house down. I managed to convince her that was not the economical solution. Long story short, we needed Scent Tek to come twice. We worked with both brothers and both dogs. Their styles are different, but they really do know what they are doing, and the dogs are true experts. Kevin and Rhys were particularly diligent and detailed. I hope to never see any of them again, but I’m guessing they are used to that reaction. Overall, highly recommended…

I had bedbugs in two of my bedrooms and wasn’t sure if the bed begs migrated to the other three bedrooms in my house. I hired Scent Tek to confirm where the bugs were located, treated those rooms and then hired them again to make sure the bugs were gone. It worked and it was a fraction of the price doing two rooms instead of my entire house. Using canines and high heat treatment is the cheapest, safest and easiest way to kill bedbugs.

Kevin was very kind and friendly. He thoroughly looked through our facility and was pleasant to all of our staff. His dog is the cutest! Thank you for your candor and for coming out to our offices.

These guys were great. I’d just returned home from a weekend in a hotel with Bed Bugs (I found two of them in the room, and I am covered in bites) and I was terrified that I’d brought some home with me. Turns out, I didn’t! Great service: very responsive, helpful, thorough, efficient — and so comforting. And on Kevin’s suggestion, I called the hotel and they very happily reimbursed me for the cost of Scent Tek’s inspection. Score. Plus: Rhys is so adorable and SO excited. Obviously very thorough! Great service. I called and they got me on the books for the next afternoon. They were exactly on time. They arrived in an unassuming vehicle and uniform that did not shout «hey we’re looking for bed bugs!» which is nice, I didn’t want my neighbors to panic. I was asked for some background, why I thought I had bed bugs, etc. He took the time to listen and then did the search and it turns out I had NO BED BUGS! Thank you, Lord! They sold me a book for $ 6 on how to prevent bed bugs and what to do if I did get them in the future. I hope I never need this book but I bought it anyway: P

Note: This was my second K9 inspection. I had one done from another service the day before. I was so convinced I had bed bugs that I needed a second opinion — turns out I am just crazy and I had an allergic reaction to some medication that looked like bites.

Yes Kevin is a nice person and the dog was really cute BUT they didn’t helped me AT ALL. I payed $ 175 for the «consultation» Kevin and the dog didn’t find anything…
Before I called them, I had already found three adult bedbugs full of blood, my whole body was covered in bites and I had tried spraying (many times) everything in my room with rubbing alcohol because I researched online and many people agreed that it had worked.
As I said before Kevin and his dog didn’t find anything, but this is not the part that upsets me, it is the fact that he said «he wanted to help me», that he was going to be in touch and that I should start a «journal of bites» and text it to him with pictures of the bugs I would find so he would have the proof and send «another crew»… Well I texted him a week later after he came, first with my journal of bites and after that I sent him 3 pictures of bedbugs. His replies were so vague: «oh my cellphone died and I couldn’t follow our thread of messages» … «yeah that kind of looks like a bedbug». He didn’t follow, he didn’t show interest of helping me as he had said before. My last text said: «what should WE (meaning him, his crew and I) do now?» He never replied back to me…
…and I lost $ 175.

We’ve been getting bitten for months, but extensive searching and research and passive traps have turned up no bugs of any kind. Until you know what’s biting you, it’s pretty difficult to treat appropriately. So we were going nuts. I’ve got health conditions that mean I over-​react to any kind of bug bites, so I’m covered in hives as well as bites and getting sick from too many antihistamines and lack of sleep.
I called Orkin and they sent a guy around. His inspection was semi-​thorough, but didn’t impress me after weeks of searching for bedbugs in every possible way in every possible crevice. He didn’t find anything but was pretty eager to upsell us some services.
I said ‘screw that’ and pushed that little button up at the top of the page that let me schedule an appointment without even having to make a phone call (which is great because I’m a little deaf). I was surprised at how soon I could get somebody in, but wasn’t gonna argue.
Scent Tek come in civilian garb, so your whole neighborhood doesn’t have to know (or panic). I’d already informed my (friendly) building management that there was a possibility of some sort of bugs, just in case, but I would have appreciated the privacy a lot more if I was still living with certain other jerk landlords or crazy neighbors. They were running a few minutes late, but they called ahead of time to let me know.
Kevin and Rhys the dog were great. I apologized for the disaster because I’d already taken the bedroom apart six times to look for bugs, and I haven’t wanted to have my cleaning help come in in case they got infected, so the place is trashed. I also had passive bed bug and flea traps out, none of which had caught anything.
Rhys went to hang out in my bathroom for a few minutes while Kevin talked to me about what had been going on, observed the big red welts on my neck, and did an extensive bed-​take-​apart search to look for bugs. I hadn’t been able to flip the box spring over myself, but he did, and dug around and — voila! A bug!
You would not believe how happy I was to be handed a bed bug wrapped in Scotch tape. Three months of being bitten by something, folks. Three months and I finally knew how to proceed!
Kevin kept looking and found no eggs, just one bug and some poop, confirming his earlier suspicion that if we had a serious bug infestation we’d have way more bites. (MORE? AIGH) He brought out Rhys to have a sniff around for more. Rhys was a little over-​excited but did his job very well, if a little distractably (more on that in a minute) and sniffed the whole bedroom over without finding anything interesting. We came back out to the living room to sniff and examine my sofa and recliner, and — oh dear. See, in trashing the bedroom I had moved a large pile of stuffed animals out of the bedroom and they were all over the living room floor. Rhys is toy-​trained to do his job (which is considered way better than treat-​trained these days), so a big pile of stuffed animals looked a lot like heaven to him. Kevin persuaded Rhys to sniff the furniture as well as the toys, and neither of them found anything more.
Rhys went back in the bathroom to chill while Kevin discussed the results with me and how to proceed. He was able to take a credit card right there, and I’ll have a receipt for that and the results of the inspection in my email within 24 hours. I can take that — and my scotch-​taped bedbug — to show the exterminator and heat box companies. ScentTek doesn’t work with any exterminators, but Kevin gave me three companies and suggested one in particular as being best for our particular needs and situation. He also said that it’s remotely possible that there was just the one bug, and I might want to give it a few more days and see if that does it. (I have trouble believing that one damn bug could do all this, but it’s accurate — we only get a few bites each night.) I petted Rhys and got slobbered on and said good-​bye and thank you.
I am SO RELIEVED to know what species has been biting me and that now we can move forward instead of going crazy looking for bugs we can’t find and crazier with itching and sleep loss. I would probably have paid twice the rate these guys charge to get an answer, but I’m also really satisfied (and have evidence!) that they did a good job and I’ve gotten good advice on how to proceed. (I HAVE A DEAD BUG IN SCOTCH TAPE YOU GUYS. Only bug survivors will understand why that was worth a couple hundred bucks to me easily.)
I highly recommend these guys for peace of mind and identification. Just don’t leave too many toys around to distract the dogs.

I cannot recommend Kevin and his dog, Rhys, enough.
Having inspected the bed myself and found bugs, I was 99% sure we had bed bugs, but we decided to have an inspection to make sure they had not spread to other areas of the apartment.
Kevin and his adorable dog showed up, and his straight-​forward answers and calm demeanor immediately made me feel better about the situation.
Kevin inspected the rooms himself then sent Rhys in to sniff out anything he may have missed. We did have bed bugs, but they were only in one room. We caught them very early (thankfully I’m allergic?), so Kevin was able to help us come up with a solution to isolate the infestation and deal with them fast before it became a larger problem.
Even if you’ve found the bed bugs yourself and don’t think you need an inspection, I highly recommend calling Kevin first. He will walk you through all of the treatment options, answer all of your questions (even if every person in the apartment is calling/​texting separately with questions, like we were), and help you prevent future infestations.
He probably saved us thousands of dollars, and days of anxiety.

I called yesterday, made the appt for today and he and Rhys came and I got the GOOD news of NO BED BUGS!!! YAY!!! Very nice many and friendly and really good dog! Thank you!

I had some nasty looking bites on my neck, and as we had done quite a bit of traveling recently, I came to the hasty conclusion that we had bed bugs. Thankfully we didn’t. Kevin came out with his adorable sidekick, thoroughly examined/​sniffed our home and assured us — no bed bugs. Turns out the bites were likely from a mite — I haven’t gotten any bites since, and neither has anyone in our family. Whew. I was so thankful for his visit, calm demeanor, and willingness to share his wisdom. I hadn’t been able to sleep for a few nights without visions of bedbugs creeping in my head… until Scent Tek came to give the all clear. Thank you!

If you think your relative in SF may have bed bugs, first call Kevin at Scent Tek. He can save you much time and money. He and his dog Rhys are bed bug detectives. They arrive on time, and are discreet in appearance, your neighbors will think a friend and his dog are visiting. It was a learning experience to hear Kevin tell all about bed bugs, what they look like in different phases of life, and how to detect them. The conclusion was no bed bugs. The problem could have been caused by mites related to a pet, that have a short life span and do not reproduce like bed bugs. The $ 175 was money well spent.

Kevin is so knowledgeable and friendly — He’s not like the other guys that are just trying to sell you on something.

I’m amazed because I am fussy as sh*t, and yet I have nothing I can complain about with Scent Tek! =)
Outcome: $ 175 to inspect my unit. Rhys the dog alerted the presence of bugs in my bed, in the exact area where I had found live bugs before! Luckily my living room was found free of bugs, and since it previously had been infested there, that was such a mental relief. Good job, guys!
Details on my 2 interactions with the company:
1) I texted Scent Tek asking them to come check out the place, saying I caught some bugs and think I might have bed bugs! Kevin texted back promptly, asking me to send pictures of the bugs, which I did. Kevin confirms they are bed bugs, and then says he doesn’t need to come out to me to confirm in person then. NO CHARGE! =)
2) After 5 bed bug treatments from a different company, I am getting bitten and going crazy. (Remember Scent Tek doesn’t treat, they just detect/​confirm bedbug presence) I want to know exactly WHERE in my house these bugs are!
Kevin (human) and Rhys (dog) come out. I can’t decide which guy I liked more-​both were friendly, sweet, and professional! Well except maybe for when Rhys ate some of my cat’s food hahaha. Take it all Rhys, you deserve it!

After finding what I thought were bed bugs, I scheduled an appointment with Orkin. They told me I had bed bugs and encouraged a $ 3K heat treatment. After feeling really nervous about dropping that amount of money, I called Kevin after reading all his reviews. He graciously answered all my questions and told me to schedule an appointment with ATCO Pest Control. Turns out, I didn’t have bed bugs at all! Brent and Curly came out and gave it another glance and confirmed that we have beetles, not bed bugs. Could not recommend these guys more! If you even have a question, schedule an appointment. They’ll take care of you!

Kevin is great. He responded quickly, came on time and did his job. Finding out you have bedbugs is a stressful experience and Kevin was calming and helpful. He also took a few phone calls from us just to give us advice during and after the extermination process. If you hire Kevin to do an initial inspection for you, he basically becomes an advisor for you during the whole process. Highly recommended.

I was very pleased with my experience with Scent Tek. I was getting bug bites for about a week and became concerned about bed bugs. My sister mentioned that there are dogs that specifically detect bed bugs (she had to deal with them when she lived in NY) and referred me to Scent Tek’s website. What I liked about Scent Tek:
1) Making an appointment online was quick and easy, and I received an appointment confirmation email along with instructions on how to prepare my residence for an inspection.
2) Kevin (human) and Rhys (dog) showed up on time (even a little early).
3) Kevin was very professional and friendly, and Rhys was very cute (ok, I know that’s not relevant). Kevin first did a visual inspection of my bedroom without Rhys, including lifting up my mattress and box spring, checking for signs of bed bugs. After Kevin was done, Rhys then sniffed around my rooms, trying to detect them.
4) Kevin was very thorough, knowledgeable, and personable. His demeanor was very calming, which helped me since I was very stressed about the possibility of bed bugs. He asked many questions about when and where I was noticing the bites and if I had any insect sightings to narrow down the types of pests I might be dealing with. Before Rhys inspected my place, he gave a thorough description of what to expect if Rhys did find something. After neither he nor Rhys detected bed bugs, he gave me a primer on how to detect bed bugs in the future and talked to me about what else might be causing my bites. I also got Rhys’s business card so that I could call/​email with further questions if needed.
I don’t know how much pest control inspections typically cost, but if it’s within your price range and you’re worried about bed bugs, I would definitely recommend Scent Tek because of their excellent level of service and for the peace of mind I got after they were done.

I was referred to Scent Tek after speaking with a local pest control agency. I had been getting bit by unknown insects over the course of a month, and through internet research concluded that I had bed bugs. I purchased/​utilized various bed bug products (i.e. bedbug interceptions, diatomaceous earth, etc.) to no avail. I finally told myself ‘enough is enough’. I was able to set up an appointment via their online website, which was a really simple process.
Brent and Curly showed up the following day about an hour earlier than our scheduled appointment, and I gave him a summary of what had been happening. I was obviously very distraught, and he took the time to let me finish my story/​rant. He them reassured me by telling me that they had been in the business for around 6 years, and average about 1500 appointments annually. If there were any bed bugs, Curly will be able to detect them. I was then asked to leave the room so that Curly was able to investigate without any distractions. We rent a two bedroom apartment, and they took about 5 – 10 minutes or so to examine the entire apartment.
Brent concluded that my apartment was bed bug free, since Curly didn’t show any reactions. I can’t explain to you the feeling of having that weight off my shoulders. Since we have had an ongoing rat problem in my complex, he encouraged me to speak with my landlord to request a pest control company to come out and determine if we have a fleas/​mites problem. He also told me to reach out to him if I had any additional questions/​concerns.
I commend Brent and Curly for their professionalism during this process. I would wholeheartedly recommend this business to anyone who suspects that they have bed bug problems.

I have mixed feelings about my experience with Scent Tek last year, especially comparing them against CimexTek, who I also used. I spoke with Kevin on the phone during my info-​gathering and interviewing stage, who seemed friendly and informative enough. But I get the feeling that my barrage of questions (I contacted them maybe two or three more times after that initial call) may have been a bit overwhelming (but anyone who’s had, or think they’ve had, bedbugs knows how incredibly stressful it is), because neither he nor Brent returned my last two calls, including the one where I wanted to actually schedule an appointment: in other words, they never called to confirm, and simply showed up, despite my explicitly asking for a call back.
In any case, Brent and Curly show up promptly the morning of my appointment, where Brent proceeds to give me a run down of how the inspection is done, demonstrates how Curly reacts when finding signs of bedbugs, and then does the inspection of my main living space and master bedroom, finding nothing.
My issues, aside from the lack of communication? One thing was purely on me, but Curly was scratching himself a lot, which, in my heightened state of paranoia, made me a little concerned that he possibly had a flea problem (Brent explained that Curly had just been given flea treatment a little bit prior). The other was that, compared to Cimextek (yes, I did two inspections, to be safe), their inspection wasn’t nearly as detailed, as Ryan of Cimextek also made a point of doing a fairly detailed manual inspection of the bed and frame prior to bringing his dog Max in.

Bed Bugs… sooner or later most rental properties have to deal with this issue. For the first time ever one of my tenants had the misfortune of bringing home bed bugs. The tenants got estimates from their own exterminators to treat the place but before I could consider tenting and fumigating I had to verify there were actually bed bugs in the unit. That’s when I contacted Scent Tek for a Sherlock hound inspection.
Scheduling was easy through their website. Once they inspected the property and confirmed the bed bug infestation they gave me great recommendations for heat treatment and tenting the place. I opted for tenting since the property is barely 10 years old. After the unit was tented and fumigated I contacted Scent Tek for another inspection before I let the tenants move back into the unit.
Throughout the entire process Scent Tek was great about communicating by phone and email to confirm the appointment and to update me when they were on their way or running late. The inspection price is more than reasonable and I recommend them to anyone who needs a bed bug inspection.
