It’s a great place for food and a great location to chill out too! The refrito was loaded with goodies and the crunchy bread was perfect! Next time I am going to try adding fried egg to it! It is a sandwich you must try! Try the esquites, a unique corn snack and a must try. There are a couple of other carts on there as well and they are pretty good as well!

Trusty Unilocal at it again. The bowls were amazing and tasted so fresh. How do they make this food from a trailer kitchen?! AMAZING! They were very accommodating with adding some extra and not putting the hot spicy stuff! Beer is served in the same common area — so can’t go wrong! The Frida bowl was yum!

Add me to the list of fans of Guero! My husband and I came here on a recent trip to Portland after seeing all of the great reviews for this place. We ordered a carnitas torta(husband) and the Diego bowl(me). We also got a side of the esquites to share and I finished off our order with a Mexican Coke. My favorite! I think the total cost of our meal was around $ 22– very reasonable for the large portion sizes. They have covered seating available right outside the truck. There are lot of picnic tables and I noticed they have heaters for if the weather is cooler. Under the same tent they also have a truck serving beer, very convenient if you want a beverage with your Mexican food. It took about 10 minutes to get our order but it was worth the wait. My husband hasn’t found a torta he liked until this one! As for the bowl it really was just an explosion of flavor! I might be missing something, but I think it included arugula, roasted corn, pickled red onions, fresh onions, cotija cheese, carnitas, chiles, rice, pinto beans and some sort of mayo. All of the flavors worked so well together! The bowl was very big and filling and as good as it was, I was too full to finish it all. The esquites is Mexican style corn(off the cob), mixed with chili powder, mayo and cheese and it was delicious and spicy. I was actually surprised by the amount of spice in this dish but it was really tasty to me! Do yourself a favor and go check out Guero when you are in Portland!

Somewhat disappointed. The corn elote in a cup was far far too salty to be edible. My friend had the Frida Bowl and while tasty, wasn’t great. I had the #1 Carnitas al Guero Torta and the pork carnitas had very little flavor, almost as if not marinated or seasoned long enough, and the bread was slightly soggy. I’ve had better Mexican food truck food, but that isn’t to say this place isn’t good. It’s just not«go out of your way» good.

I did not think tortas could be this good! They are huge — a soft bun filled with delicious meat. We got the Carnitas torta and a side of their corn which came with cheese, lime, and sour cream. The side was really refreshing and the corn was so sweet! A great combo. The sandwich and side was enough food for two. We will definitely be coming back!

I honestly don’t know what other word to use besides«perfection». Their Carnitas Torta was unbeivablly perfect in all senses. The bread was toasted yet still soft, and not overwhelming. All of the veggies were fresh and crisp. The charred-chili aioli was perfectly balanced with the cotija cheese(50 cents more, but well worth it). And of course, the marinated pork was so flavorful and delicious, I had to buy another. Overall, un torta perfecta! True the orange sauce on the side. Has a nice kick!

Awesome tortas! Think a Hispanic pulled pork sandwich. We got the carnitas torta and the meat was juicy, vegetables were crunchy, bread was soft. Everything you would look for in a torta. Not even a fan of pickled vegetables but it was a great combination. Make sure to use the hot sauce, definitely adds an extra bite to the combo. Ambience was nice, very chill, no line. There’s a tented area so we were able to sit down and stay warm next to the heater when it was a little cold and rainy.

Yes, yes, yes!!! All day yes… The tortas were great… Really loved the car it’s one. The corn was good, but the kernels were a little overdone. The taste was exactly right. Wish there was a better bathroom situation… Taco trucks don’t have option. Will go again!

oh-my-mouth, it’s so damn happy! I super wish guero’s would have been the taco truck in my neighborhood growing up. why did I waste so many years eating dry broken bread, soaked in a waterfall of mayonnaise, and topped with a few tomato wheels and re hydrated jerky meat? oh I know why, because Guero’s never existed prior to me moving to Portland. the foods:] the torta’s at Guero’s start with a nicely toasted bun, stack it thick with chile aioli sauce, avocado, fresh onion, pickled onion, cilantro and lime, cabbage, and your choice of pork, chicken, or whole pinto beans. want to jazz up your order even further add cotija cheese, a fried egg, or crème for a slight up charge. my favorite is the no. 1; carnitas al guero; carlton farms pork, marinated in citrus and a house blend of spices. the esquites will make you question ever skipping mexican street corn. as you never should. the sandwiches are thick and hearty, I can eat a lot and personally have yet to finish a whole sandwich by myself. the set up:] although this is a food cart, it is located within a food cart pod and offers covered seating and sitting options a la picnic tables. interested in fermented beverage? there just so happens to be a beer cart and kombucha cart right on site. extra mention:]parking is fairly easy, either close or a mere block away. the cart accepts carts and the carrot-habanero hot sauce is yum-town! add the cotija, it makes it that much better! i did use to love the chicken sandwich but found the pork to be consistently the winner

Ok this place most definitely lives up to the hype. My friend and I got their torta with carnitas and it was the best torta I’ve ever had. The bread had crispy edges and to me, that’s very important! On top of it being delicious, the carrot habanero hot sauce just puts it over the top. Writing this review makes me want another.

I was introduced to this place by a random tinder date and I’ve been coming back ever since! The Diego Bowl with carnitas is where it’s at– Fresh ingredients, perfect level of spice, and excellent customer service. If I could eat here everyday, I would!

Guero is MAGNIFICENT! Fresh, light, nourishing and flavorful. If you’re on the fence about trying this cart, jump down. Can’t wait for them to have a brick and mortar. YUM I had The Diego bowl with carnitas & added avocado. Lots of veggie options, too. Im drooling while eating!

I so badly wanted to give this place 5 stars, but it didn’t live up to the hype I thought it would. I ordered the No. 1 Carnita Torta. What I do like is that the torta was not greasy or oily at all. Usually when I go to a Mexican place, the torta bread is super greasy and seems so unhealthy for you, but Guero doesn’t make it seem unhealthy. The torta was pretty refreshing. I think that was the only upside, and the carnitas were mediocre at best. I’m sorry, Guero, just didn’t do it for me.

One of the best carts in the neighborhood, and possibly in the city! I favor the tortas over the bowls. And the carrot habanero sauces is life changing.

Expectations exceeded! I had the Diego bowl with Carnitas(hold the magical fruit) and it was delicious. Such a mix of flavors! The meat was the perfect mix of crispy and juicy, the rice was flavorful, the greens were plentiful, and the pickled veggies were a nice touch. And quality ingredients too. It felt a little spendy but the portion was generous so I easily got two meals out of it. I’ll be back for sure!

Guero is the king of tortas. The bun is toasty and soft, the pork is perfectly flavored and I love that they come with avocado, because everything deserves avocado on it!!! Service is quick and nice, and their carrot hot sauce is so good, I wanna eat it on EVERYTHING.

I love the concept of this food truck. My boyfriend really liked his food. Howeverrrrrr the only vegetarian option was so spicy that I couldn’t eat it! I was so looking forward to this place!!!

Oh man, the torta sandwiches are to die for. I don’t know what kind of magical planet their bread is from but I want to live there. All of the sandwiches are good and I can vouch for the vegetarian sandwich being just as tasty and filling as the meat versions. BTW, these sandwiches are HUGE! I could be pleased with just half but always end up eating more because it’s that good.

This was the first torta I ever tried. Actually, it was the first place with a vegetarian torta that I have been to. The bread and all the ingredients on the sandwich were fresh. The bread was crispy yet soft. The pickled onions and all of the flavors come together so well for the sandwich. One of the best places I’ve tried in Portland. Highly recommended!

I’ve never have eaten a torta prior to this. I had no expectations coming in, but I left completely satisfied. I ordered the #1, the torta with pork. The flavors complement each other very well. The bread has a light crisp to it. The torta was the perfect portion. Quite heavenly and definitely will come back!

Don’t walk, Run to this place ! I totally get why lots of people love this place After some pretty mediocre food experience lately I really needed to be inspired. Well, Guero came through with their attention to details and execution. Let me break it down. The Diego Bowl was a 5 star, off the chain, in the air chest bumping, Mic dropping with feedback goodness ! end of story. On the reals tho, it has rice, beans seasoned chicken with arugula(way underused in pdx), cilantro, pickled red onion(next level stuff), avocado, mexican cheese(extra), corn and homemade sauce with wedge of lime on the side. The pickled red onion, lime and arugula make this stand out.(don’t forget to squeeze the lime in, it makes the flavors pop.) Get This I also tried the Torta Carnitas, The bun is perfect, they butter the bun and throw it on the grill which results in a nice char/crispy texture on the flat side on the bun. This step(that most sandwich places forget to do) makes this sandwich great. The only part of this sandwich i thought could have been better, unfortunately was the Carnitas. I thought it needed more spices and garlic, but I am kinda a Carnitas snob so take that how you may. Bottom line is, put this on your short list of places to eat. You will LOVE it ! I promise

Holy crap. After driving 5 ½ hours from Vancouver, my boyfriend and I were craving something delicious and unique. I hopped onto Unilocal and we headed to Güero based on the great reviews. We arrived to a mostly empty lot where some of the trucks were open, thankfully Güero was one of them! We both ordered the pork torta(#1)with cheese(I believe queso fresco), plus some Serrano peppers on the side. We stopped at the neighboring beer truck for some beers, and sat to wait for our lunch. Though it was a fairly long wait(about 10 minutes or so) it was TOOOTTALLY worth it!!! The torta was gigantic, stuffed to the brim with pork, avocado, pickled onions and slaw. There was also a carrot habanero salsa which I literally could not stop eating even though my face was melting off. Filling, unique, and totally bomb– make your way to Güero as soon as physically possible!

I came here one afternoon and got the Diego Bowl with Carnitas. Loved it. Guero is part of the food cart pod on SW28th, a couple blocks south of Burnside. There is a substantial outdoor seating area, and much of it is covered, so it’s a good year-round food cart option. The Diego bowl was wonderful. I love a composed dish where every single bite can be something different, but still delicious, and this was exactly that. The bowl is layered with rice + perfectly cooked pinto style beans + creamy sauce(sour cream and cotija maybe?) + shredded cabbage + pickled red onions + white onions tossed in lemon juice and cilantro + arugula + guac + grilled corn + carnitas + wedge of lime + grilled serrano chile pepper. There was also a house made habanero hot sauce that you could put on the side. It was awesome. Would totally go back, and would definitely get this again.

Mmhmm. This place rocks. Super flavorful. High quality. Surrounded by a great pod with outdoor beer — it all feels Portland to a T. But it doesn’t matter if it feels Portland unless it tastes Portland, and oh let me tell you — it tastes Portland. Killer Tortas. The bowls rock. The Esquites will make your heart beat fast. The only thing that could be better? Be a little more generous with the meat. Everything else is perfect.

Guero is one of my favorite food carts in PDX. The menu features simplistic, yet flavorful and fresh Mexican dishes such as tortas, bowls & esquites. Everything on the menu is very good, but my favorite is the Diego Bowl. Bowls come with rice, beans, fresh greens, corn, guacamole, jalapeño crema, cilantro, pickled onion and cotija cheese. I get carnitas with mine but you also have your choice of chicken or an organic fried egg. The bowls are $ 8-$ 9(except if you choose to add an egg, which will cost you $ 11). They are worth every penny. You get a very generous portion of food, so generous I almost never finish it. And a much more creative and flavorful bowl than Chipotle for the same price!(Not that I’m hating on Chipotle, I’m actually quite the fan.) Definitely get a Mexican soda and the esquites for a side(chile spiced corn with garlic & cotija cheese), but be warned it’s very spicy.

My wife and I tried Guero for the first time one rainy day a couple of weeks ago, on a whim. We hadn’t heard of it but were impressed with the unique and fresh offerings. I ordered The Diego(carnitas bowl) and my wife ordered the Refrito torta. The Refrito was a fresh and delightful take on the classic torta vegetarian-style. We thought the flavors melded together wonderfully and the textures beckoned for further bites. The Diego was even more impressive, first with the heaping size and second with the wonderfully seasoned pork carnitas amid greens, rice and beans, pickled onion, and more. The flavors are unique, fresh, and authentic. They taste fantastic without trying hard or over-doing anything. They’re versatile and offer items for a range of tastes, and they offer all of this in a great, cozy cart-park. This is a great little collection of food carts, but is very small. A great delight is of course the beer cart directly next to Guero, which offers a half-dozen or so top-quality local beers on tap. If you are already a fan of Mexican sandwiches, or of bowls ala The Whole Bowl or(gasp!) Chipotle, you’ll instantly love Guero. If you haven’t developed these tastes, give this place a try and see what you think. ;-) This is food you will not forget. Recommended.

I spent 5 years searching for«really good» Mexican food in Portland and I finally found it…4 blocks from my house, a few days before moving to Alaska. That’s how life works sometimes. Sounds like I’m making that up. Sounds like a terrible romcom about food. It’s all true. This place is extremely: Affordable FRESH(something Mexican food is not classically known for) Unique Familiar I have no idea how authentic this place is(I mean, look at that u in the name!), nor do I care. The point is: it tastes amazing. I ate here nearly every day before I moved from Portland and I was always impressed and ready for more. Everything on the menu is fresh and delicious and satisfying, try anything. I’m not even going to bother explaining the food, just look at my photos. Then, look me in the eye and tell you don’t want to make that food a part of your body. They don’t have beer, but they are right next door to a brewery cart. If you enjoy drinking terrible, «authentic» Mexican lagers with a lime, you can’t do that… sorry. You should eat here, ASAP. It is only a matter of time before this becomes the next Salt and Straw/Pok Pok/Screendoor/etc and you have to wait forever to get food here. It’s teetering on the tipping point. Eat here so I you can brag to your friends about how you knew about them«back when…», I know you PDX folks love that sort of thing.
