History

Established in 2011.

Although Holiday is now settled into her beautiful home in a real building shining as brightly as ever, you must know how this little darling came to be. Holiday Hair Studio started as a little sparkle. A Dream that continued to flicker brighter and brighter, until one day there was an old trailer sitting in our front yard. My husband and I gutted that trailer, we worked on it every night and weekend for over 6 months until, like a Pumpkin into a Carriage… We had made magic! Once finished, meaning after we transformed this tiny vintage trailer into a fully functioning little salon, we found her the perfect home in a lush garden. Where we painted her exterior in a Pale Pink Blush… That was actually the name of her outer paint coat you see? It was all just a little bit ridiculous, how sickeningly sweet Holiday was. From her pink and orange damask wallpaper to her vanity surrounded in 1040’s style bulb lights. The whole thing was quite a scene, or an experience rather…

Robin likes to have fun… And make really good hair do’s happen. She makes you look amazing, and knows just how to make your hair be on it’s best behavior. So yeah, she is good at hair and she has really great energy too. Positive vibes all around… Now moving passed the Portland hippy qualifications (which are certainly more true then cleche, but cleche non-​the-​less) This chick has got the chops! Having studied and worked in both California and New York City, Robin has styled for major network televisions shows and feature films as well as for print and ad campaigns. But her true love is you. Robin loves to do hair for personal clients and get to know them on an individual basis. She love sending beautiful hair dos out in to the world everyday, and she loves it even more when you come back in and tell her all about the stories that you have collected while you were out there.

Grace King did a fabulous job with my hair. Recently moved to the Portland area and was referred to Grace from a coworker (whose hair is beautiful). She gave my hair exactly what I wanted. The salon is beautiful, unique and quiet in a great bustling neighborhood. I would recommend Grace to anybody!

I’ve been walking by this place since it opened a couple ears ago and finally walked in. The aesthetic is perfect and there are only two stylists because they the owner is picky. I couldn’t get an appt with Robin so I went with Grace, and she was amazing. I walked in, told her I wanted something different but didn’t have a lot of direction (first different cut in about 10 years) and she effortlessly moved me through it. Ended up with a great cut that was very different from previous, and she orchestrated it all with confidence and grace. Ahem.

Holiday Hair is quite possibly the cutest hair salon I have ever been in! The ambiance alone will make you feel like a chic babe before the scissors even touch your hair!
I hear Robin, the owner, is an amazing hair stylist but Grace King has been cutting and coloring my hair for years. So, when she relocated to Holiday– I moved with her! Simply put, Grace is a true artist of her trade. She takes each client’s personal style into account and works accordingly. I have always loved what she does to my hair and it has truly been across the board. Long, short, bleached or brown Grace has always nailed-​it while carrying on lovely conversation and making my visit something to look forward to.
Whoever you choose to work with at Holiday Hair, you’ll be leaving with smile on your face and some lovely new locks. Another great small Portland business that I love supporting!

I was looking for a new salon & happened to find Holiday Hair Studio on a Unilocal search. I had just gotten back from vacation & was eager to book something that day. Grace King (stylist extraordinaire) happened to have availability & the online booking tool that she uses was super easy. She responded within 10 or 15 minutes to confirm our appointment. When I walked in, I told her that I didn’t blow dry my hair, that I used Aveda hair products & she didn’t try to upsell me on anything which I really appreciated. She was very sweet & I LOVE my new hair cut ($ 50). It’s styled beautifully & my boyfriend couldn’t wipe the smile off his face when he saw me. Thanks, Grace! I will definitely refer her to friends & will rebook with her.

I can’t say enough about Robin! I have been back to Portland for 2 years bouncing around to different hair dressers, until I found her! My friends call her the hair whisper! She totally is. She is great with long, curly, unruly hair. Plus I am sensitive to products, and she has great products. It is worth every penny to see her!!!

This place is great. The space is gorgeous with a charming vintage décor that you might describe as ‘grandma chic’ if you had a grandma with understated glamour and curator sensibility.
I look for a stylist who can deliver a genuinely low maintenance ‘do without sacrificing any style or precision and that’s what Bethany delivers. She began working at Holiday this last year and does fantastic work. I walk away with a cut that complements my features and tames whatever crazy my hair wants to do naturally. She makes it look easy even though I know my insanely thick, wavy, cowlicky mane can be challenging in less capable hands. It’s worth mentioning, she uses very little product in my hair and no heat. None. Unheard of. Fwiw, I tend to go in with clean hair, and I imagine she doesn’t hesitate to use heat/​product as needed.
All said, I’m thrilled with my hair and enjoy chatting with Bethany in this classy shop conveniently located across the street from Crema and its perfect iced coffee. Win!

Bonnie gave me a cut and color, and I couldn’t be happier! I have coarse, thick, pretty short hair. She listened to my needs and asked me plenty of questions to get a dialogue going about what I like and don’t like in a hair style. She did a GREAT job, and I’ll definitely be going back.
The salon itself is adorable — very relaxing and laid-​back, but professional. Plus, it’s right across the street from a great coffee shop.

Bonnie is the best! I’ll be the first to admit that I am the worst kind of high maintenance hair client. Black! Red! Blonde! Now black again! Cut it all off! I’m growing it out! Aaaaaahhhh. But Bonnie has been nothing but patient and encouraging. She always listens to what I want instead of pretending to listen and then completely doing her own thing (which has always happened to me with other stylists). She gives me really insightful feedback without pushing anything on me and I always leave with exactly what I want. Even if what I asked for seemed nearly impossible. She is so talented! And on top of that I always have a great time hanging out with her while she works her magic. AND she gives hands down the best scalp and neck massages when she shampoos my hair. Seriously. I might start making appointments just for the massage in between my haircuts.

I had a really good experience here. I never get my hair done (my boyfriend cuts it usually) professionally, but wanted to try something new and liked all the good reviews on here.
When she (Robin) cut my hair it was just me and her in the studio! That was nice: no loud hair dryer noses or voices competing to be heard. There weren’t any strong chemicaly smells either. I sort of told her what I wanted (basically for her to use her skill to make it look good) and she went from there. I couldn’t believe how long it took (which makes sense because when my bf cuts it it takes two minutes, literally). I was shocked when I saw it after! It looked so cute and so like nothing I’ve ever had.
When I got home I showered to get all the little pieces of hair off my neck and after it dried it looked not so good. I was like, aw dang I shoulda known! But then a day or two later it looked good again and now it looks cool. People I know keep being like, woa, you’re hair looks so good like that, it frames your face so well!
Last thing I want to add: when I asked Robin if she would recommend blow drying my hair (to make it look better or whatever) she said «not if it’s not something you would naturally do. I don’t think you should do anything that you have to force.» Hell yeah! I plan to come back here.

I can’t recommend Courtney highly enough. Though I don’t get to go to her anymore (sadface), she may know my hair even better than I do. I love, love, love Courtney! Can’t say that enough. I have been going to Courtney at Holiday Hair Studio for over 6 years now. She is the ONLY one I would trust with my hair!
I am not a stylish person, but when Courtney does my hair, I sure feel like one! She tells me what she thinks will work with my face shape, etc. and we are always trying fun new up-​dos and color. I went through a phase where I wanted to be blonde (after having dark brunette hair my whole life) and Courtney made it happen. It looked great and I got tons of complements. Now I am back to brunette with dark purple hilights, which is my favorite go-​to. Look her up on Facebook, or go to

She is not judgmental as some stylists can be when it comes to hair care, and is a very Zen presence in an otherwise fast-​paced world. I tend to go to her with half an idea of what I want, and she helps to fill in the gaps. I am always happy with the result!

Susan Kennedy was able to fit me into her schedule and I’m glad that she was, because the hair-​cut I received was amazing. Ever since I moved to Portland over two years ago I’ve struggled to find a hair stylist that I feel really understands my look and the hair style I want… and then I found Robin. She listened to everything I wanted and more. She was very easy to talk to and made my hair cutting experience relaxing and enjoyable. She’s got many many years of experience and it definitely shows. I think I may have finally found the perfect stylist for me in Portland and I can’t wait to go see her again.
I made my appointment online and was able to get in within 24 hours. Her salon on SE Ankeny & 28th is adorable with big windows for excellent people watching. The antique and vintage furniture give her salon a unique Portland atmosphere that fits so well with Robins personality.

Can someone pinch me? I think I just got the best haircut of my life, and I’m worried it’s all just a dream.
If my prayers have been answered and this is, in fact, my new ‘do, all I can say is wow. From the second I sat down in the salon chair, I knew I was in great hands. Robin was extremely attentive to my hair needs, and I was so enchanted by the deliciously fragrant products and delightful conversation that I didn’t realize when cut was complete. I floated out of the salon straight to my computer to write this glowing review.

More than a month later I’m still thinking about the dreamy haircut I got from Robin at Holiday Hair Studio. For those looking for a cart, she’s now in a brick and motar salon next to Wanderlust Vintage. I was staying in the area, on holiday, no less, and decided to get a cut sort of on a whim, liking the look of the place as I biked by and knowing I was probably due for one. I booked my cut in advance using the online system, which was very convenient.
Robin did an excellent job. She got rid of a lot of the volume but didn’t left me feeling like I had a mullet, which has happened with other, less experienced stylists in that past.
I agree with the reviewers who said she tries to feel out the natural style of your hair. My hair kind of goes this way and that. It’s thick and neither curly nor straight. Wavy with enough humidity, or without length weighing it down. In Portland it was a little less frizzy than it is in Toronto. Maybe the lack of heat, lack of smog? Either way, Robin got it looking lovely. I had such an easy time styling it for about 3 weeks afterwards, because it was really just fell into place. Now I’m wishing I could recreate the staggered, wispy, but not thin looking bangs she gave me.
If I didn’t live 3000+kms away, I would return in a heartbeat. What a cute little shop too!

I almost didn’t have time to write this review because I was too busy looking in the mirror at my awesome new ‘do! Props to Robin for being so friendly, having an awesome little place, using unique (and delightfully aromatic) products, and for really listening to what I wanted (even though I wasn’t sure exactly what it was).
I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a new salon.
Robin spent over an hour making my hair big (per my request). Holiday Hair is not at all pretentious and worth every penny.

When I was 10 my best friend had the sweetest backyard playhouse complete with a tea set, a trunk full of costumes, and a tiny door we could close to shut out the rest of the world. We spent hours in there acting like fancy grown-​ups, reading magazines, teaching each other how to French braid. I get the same exact feeling I used to get there while visiting the Holiday trailer – Robin closes the tiny metal door, and we’re whisked away to a tiny magical place.
The place: really couldn’t be sweeter. Robin has done such a thoughtful and loving job to create a really special atmosphere, from Edith Piaf warbling in the background to the little tea kettle on the tiny stove and handmade curtains and beautiful wooden furnishings. How do you fit an Art Nouveau vanity with giant mirror in a teeny tiny trailer? Magic. And it’s all set in a little gated garden, so it’s hard not to get the playhouse in the backyard feeling.
The stylist: I would go to Robin even if an enchanted trailer weren’t involved. She is friendly and funny and warm and genuine, and I always look forward to getting to spend an uninterrupted hour with her. She is the polar opposite of the aloof distracted meanie stylist. She is exactly the kind of person you’d want to be cooped up with in a teeny trailer.
The hair: I’ve had three cuts from her now, from shoulder length to bowlcut to shorty, and I will happily continue going. Robin listens to your ideas and makes them appear on your head. She seems to cut intuitively, figuring out what your hair’s like and working with it to bring out its best. I’m sure she will do whatever she can to make you absolutely thrilled with your hair – it’s clear Robin wants you to feel beautiful when it’s time to walk back out into reality.
