Got a Groupon for this company. The guy was 40 min late… but, in all fairness, it was New Years Day and I had just made the appt about 4 days prior. They squeezed me in and forgot to tell him. I wouldn’t hold that against them.
Once he got here he was very personable and did a good job. Our chimney wasn’t bad so there seemed to be minimal, if any, dirt inside the house from the cleaning.
He was efficient and friendly. Would call again.

We just bought an old house and are having a lot of work done, so I’ve been scheduling various tradespeople all summer. As you can see from my Unilocal history, I don’t normally write Unilocal reviews. However, I’ve used Unilocal a lot this summer to crowd source and find people who do quality work. So… I’m realizing that I need to contribute and let people know about amazing companies I’ve found.
Portland Chimney is one of the companies I didn’t find on Unilocal,but through word of mouth. A friend recommended them. That friend was SO right.
This is by far one of the most professional companies I’ve worked with all summer. I needed to have my entire leaning chimney rebuilt. They did it in a day. Their office called to remind me the day before they were scheduled. (This was great, considering the sewer guys who were at my house the week before didn’t communicate well at all and did shoddy work. But that is content for another review.) The Portland Chimney guys showed up when they said they would. I had to leave. They did the work while I was gone. When I came home, I had a new, stable chimney and no traces left of the demo. These guys were clean!
I was impressed with their professionalism. Everything about working with this company was wonderful. Quality of work, clear itemized billing, kind humans answering my questions on the phone. These guys rock!

I have used Portland chimney on a yearly basis to sweep my wood stove which they installed 7 years ago. Safety is key for me and my family since we heat the house mostly with wood I want to be assured that I don’t have a chimney fire.
They are a, ways easy to schedule, they are usually out within a week. They clean it up and vacuum out the fire box leaving the house cleaner then they found it.

VERY poor admin and scheduling, unprofessional, and unreliable.
The guys that (eventually) came to do the work were super friendly and professional and seemed to do a good job.
UPDATE: They totally switched tones after the ice storm (maybe they were stressed?), came out quickly again to vacuum up some remaining dust that was stuck behind the damper, and were all around pleasant and great.

We have used Portland Chimney & Masonry for several years now to clean our woodstove insert. This year we had our woodstove cleaned and had our first fire of the year once the temperatures dropped. We had a lot of backdrafting. I made a few phone calls to ask about the back drafting. Rachel was so kind and patient; after a few phone calls she said I will send our technician back out. Bill arrived and fixed the problem for no charge. This company stands behind their cleaning. Their employees are so kind and considerate.

OK, well, I wish I could divide the review into two categories, the work they eventually did, and their job management.
I mean, I understand how the contracting business works — you hook a customer with a promised date, take a deposit, then try to put off doing the work for as long as possible, then, when you do eventually get so fed up with dealing with their frustration you send a guy over to smoke cigarettes and start the job, promising to be done that day. Three days later, after pulling your crew off to work on other jobs (presumably with angrier customers) you finish the job.
Except for the skip in the driveway — that can stay another week or so, why not, right?
While they were very busy with other clients (far too busy to work on my job), I will credit them with very prompt work when it came to cashing my deposit check. I didn’t have to wait more than a few hours for that, at least.
So to recap, they did good work. Eventually.
