Outstanding food cart serving delicious waffles and waffle sandwiches. If you’re gluten free, you absolutely must try their g-free waffles. Easily one of the best g-free items I’ve come across in Portland. My personal go to item is a g-free Sunrise sandwich, which is two baked eggs, butter, syrup, and Tillamook cheddar served on a waffle. A must try!

I had the monte cristo, replaced the strawberry jam for raspberry… everything was on point. The jam was tart enough, ham and cheese were great.

Waffles are always a good idea. As a vegan, I have tried their coconana sandwich as well as the vegan maple. Both are so great! Nothing fancy — just good comfort food full of flavor. The price is awesome for how much you get as well.

Yuuuum! Waffles, sandwiches, which is it?! It’s both. And it is so good. You first look at their menu and you’re like hmm do they only have those first few listed? NO All of them are sandwiches! Some of them, the insides listed sound like a plate in themself. All of them sounded so good and they are for the most part reasonably priced! If you get something with a special cheese or meat, yea it’s going to be a couple ollars extra, but for the lower priced sandwiches it really is a bang for your buck! I only ate 1 half and saved the other half for later and I was stuffed. The staff? So sweet, so cool and nice! Food comes out fast and hot! Oh and PS, they drizzle syrup on top.

Tasty waffles, fun flavors. The idea is good, and the waffle sandwiches are excellent. The only thing that got me was that the price was a bit high for what you get. The waffle although good, is nothing special. Definitely an in the mood kinda dessert. TBH, I would rather go down the street to Off the Waffle and dish out a bit more for some of their amazing waffles.

An excellent choice for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The waffle sandwich is a mix of sweet and savory that will leave you wanting more. There is usually always a wait, but that’s just Portland, and its always worth it.

I ordered the brie, bacon and apple waffle sandwich on a late Friday night when this food cart village was booming. What a awesome choice. It was savory, sweet and crunchy. It was big enough to share with a couple people and totally worth the 8 bucks.

I was recommended this place by a fellow foodie friend and, because waffles are my all time favorite food, I had to go. I was not disappointed. These are the best waffles. Crispy and doughy at the same time and just a little bit sweet. I’ve gotten both savory and sweet options and both were phenomenal. I got the Amsterdam, Dutch baby, the Blueberry and Bavarian cream one, and the Elvis(with no bacon because I’m weird). Highly recommend this places anyone. Amsterdam and Blueberry ones are my favorite so far!

Their waffle batter is amazing! Moist, tender, full of flavor. That’s normal for a waffle place, right? Not quite normal for this Gluten-Free Vegan! Thank you! Warmly, Dave & Maria (Patrons on 8÷22÷2015 and again any time we’re in the area!)

Stumbled upon this food cart at the Tidbit Food Cart pod. I just wanted a plain waffle with some whipped cream, ya know? It took a while(15 min)? but it was very good. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The cream wasn’t too sweet… which is something I need in my life. Yum yum yum. I’ll come back when I’m back in PDX. Thanks!

I order the Sardou, and it was delicious! Just what I needed for a post-flight meal! The service was great and the food simple & tasty! I will most likely come back, or sad if I don’t come back and try another Sardou waffle… Cheers!

I was expecting the heavens to shine upon me with delicious sweet, sweet waffle goodness. But I was left disappointed. I got the«Jam on It» which I opted for a Raspberry jam to go with the maple butter. The raspberry jam was obviously homemade(but it leaned more to a raspberry mash? There wasn’t a lot of added sweetness or moisture to the natural raspberries?). Along with this, the maple butter appeared to be there… but as a flavor, it was nearly non-existent? I’ve had a cinnamon maple butter from a restaurant in my hometown that had so many layers of different flavors, including that distinct, rich maple goodness… that I was confused why this was so different? I feel as though it may’ve been a very thin layer of maple butter that was just kissed with a dizzle of maple syrup when they mixed the components up for the day? I wanted to like this so much but it lacked sweetness and was darn near bland in flavor. Did I mention that the sandwich itself was overall really dry? There wasn’t any added creaminess from the maple butter and no sweet syrup’y goodness from their raspberry jam so it was *begging* for some whipped cream or a latte on the side. My partner got the«Raspberry Truffle» which was aided by the whipped cream and was much better overall in taste. If I go back, I’d like to try their savory waffle sandwiches. There was an egg and sausage sandwich waiting in the window while I ordered and the patties looked ridiculously thick and delicious. So maybe get here for savory, avoid the sweet?(I’m particularly a fan of Waffle Window’s sweet treats as a comparison)

If you’ve never had a good waffle and love waffles being an afterthought to toppings, then you’ll be fine here. However, if you want quality work, this place sucks. I ordered the«Powdered Dream», as it seemed to be the most no-frills piece that would allow me to get a sense of the waffle itself. Not only did I watch the dude in the cart blanket the iron with spray-can grease(which isn’t even necessary if a waffle is cooked properly and if the irons are maintained/cleaned regularly), but the waffle was so incredibly flavorless. The only thing that partially redeemed its zero-dimensional character was a pat of maple butter and a dusting of powered sugar. What would possess someone to open a business with such shit waffle work is beyond me.

I tried a vegan waffle with vegan sausage and maple«butter» today. I had high hopes and was disappointed. All it was was just the waffle, some gimme lean vegan sausage and a little maple butter spread on the waffle, which just made it seem greasy. Maybe I am just not a savory waffle sandwich kind of person, I don’t know. But there are only three vegan waffle options on the menu, all savory, so I probably won’t be back anytime soon.

So delicious! Easily one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had. Awesome price and I’ve tried a few, but the«Holla» is always my favorite! Everyone I bring there is so shocked about how good it is. Go! Go! Go!

So, so much better than I ever could have expected. After a long walk around town, my boyfriend and I were starving. I knew we were near the food carts so I figured it would provide options for anything we could want. Only problem was that at 11am on a Saturday, the carts were barely open. Now, normally this would make us super sad but one of the carts that was open was Smaaken AND they had breakfast options! Two waffles with eggs, cheese and a meat option later and we were happily satisfied. The waffles were PERFECT(I don’t use capitals often!) and the contrast with the savory was a match made in foodie heaven.

Sardou — thin waffle which is crunchy goodness. The artichokes and spinach were absolutely not fresh, 99.9% sure its canned or frozen. This waffle sandwich is moist, even soggy. The hot sauce helps significantly. The Waffle Window is a much better place for waffle anything.

Was super stoked to eat a waffle sammich, but sadly Smaaken was underwhelming. I loved the waffle itself, it was crunchy and tasty, thinner than I would expect but it worked perfectly for a sammich. I suspect I just chose the wrong menu item, in hindsite I should have gone for the monte cristo or something eggy and cheesy. I forget the name of the one I got but it was sausage, spinach, artichoke, gouda. You know how sausage is really flavorful and savory and you totally know you are eating sausage? Well this wasn’t, seriously I couldn’t taste it at all, all I tasted was spinach, and not in the nice fresh way, it tasted like canned. I’ll come here again and order something else because I really want to like a wafflewich!

A waffle sandwich? Whaaaa? Ordered: Van Gogh — Bacon, cheddar, syrup & waffle. Waffle was thin and crispy… light enough to know you’re eating a waffle, but not so much that it’s scraping the roof of your mouth. And with the bacon and cheddar? Perfect balance of sweet and salty. The fiancé ordered the Elvis — Peanut butter, bacon, honey, banana & waffle and he scarfed it down. Definitely something new and delicious! Love that they serve sweet and savory sandwiches as well. Would go back the next time I’m in Portland!

Waffles, including Gluten-free waffles that are light and fluffy, regular or coconut whipped cream, delicious savory and sweet waffles? You bet! At the recommendation of the guy working at Smaaken Waffles, we got the Dutch Baby waffle(apples, coconut whipped cream, powdered sugar), and it was amazing! As Unilocaler, Sarah S. says, this is the best pod in the city(Division @ 28th), and this cart is amazing!
