Inders Taxi Service

Last month, I checked into a hotel near the Culinary Institute of America in nearby Hyde Park, where I was scheduled the following day to start the week’s training activities at 6am sharp. I’d asked the hotel’s desk clerk for a recommendation for a taxi to pick me up no later than 5:30am, and was given a yellow business card for «Inders Taxi Service» with a smile and an assurance that the taxi driver was «solid,» which I took to mean «reliable.»
I called the service and was assured I’d see the driver at the appointed time. At around 1am the following morning, shortly before I’d set my alarm to wake, I got a *text message* from them saying they were «very sorry but would not be able to make it» to pick me up. I texted back, called them back, but no answer. They were obviously bailing on me at the last moment and refusing to answer their phone. I had to scramble to find another taxi service — Empire Transportation — that would commit to pick me up at 5:30.
I called back later in the day to get an explanation; they still didn’t answer. I’m certain they know they were in the wrong, and flagged my number as «don’t answer this guy.»
