Description

History

Established in 1998.

The original log cabin house was built in 1830 and is thought to be the oldest house on the island. In 1998, the house was entirely refurbished along with the addition being added to create the inn. During the 1998 construction, trees that were needed to be removed were milled on site and the wood was used in various areas of the lodge. In 2012 the inn went through another transformation adding a suite and bedroom in the original structure. An original hand hewn log wall is still visible in the Northern Woods Suite, giving guests a glimpse of history.

A beautiful place with a warm and relaxing atmosphere throughout the B&B as well as the well maintained grounds. The rooms were very well appointed, decorated and super clean. Dan, the Innkeeper keeps the place immaculate and maintains a very cozy and inviting atmosphere. When we walked in the door, we were greeted with a plate of chocolate chip cookies. Dan is extremely knowledgeable about the island and was happy to guide us as we planned our itinerary for the day. Breakfast was a taste-​fest on a fork! The blueberry french toast (made by Dan) was the talk of the breakfast room. I heard another guest asking for the recipe and of course Dan was happy to share it. Bottom line is The Getaway Inn is the best stay on the island, we WILL be back.

Excellent stay again. Nice clean room, patio, gathering room. Very nice breakfast, hot chocolate chip cookies at midnight. Room to park our golf cart. And owner who went out of his way to help find a lost cell phone, then made a special trip to the ferry to deliver a jacket that he found we had left behind.
I would definitely stay again.

Beautiful and clean rooms, friendly owners and excellent breakfast. My wife and I stayed in the starry nights room. There is a big suite too where my friends stated with their kids. Very close to the downtown area. Dan was very nice and polite. Recommended stay when in the island.
