The Thunderbird Lodge is located in downtown Redding surrounded by picturesque mountains and recreational areas. With easy access to I-​5, Hwy 44, Hwy 299 and Hwy 273, you can be on or off the road within minutes. There are many restaurants within walking distance to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. The lodge is less than a mile from the Redding Convention Center and the landmark Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay Exploration Park. Minutes away is Mt. Shasta Mall offering a great shopping opportunity with more than 80 stores and a variety of services.

The lodge offers many fine features and amenities including free wireless high-​speed internet access and a beautiful seasonal outdoor pool. Business travelers will welcome additional conveniences like in-​room desks and access to the business center with copy and fax services.

All guest rooms come equipped with flat screen TV’s, microwaves, refrigerators, coffee maker and hair dryers. Irons and ironing boards are available upon request.

History

Established in 1998.

Thunderbird Lodge was established in the late 50’s, ealry 60’s. The current owners have been running the business for the last 15 years. New management was brought in in 2011. Property is being update on a regular basis. Majority of the guest rooms were remodeled in late 2012 and the remaining are being remodeled in early 2013.

I have been managing the Thunderbird Lodge since 2011. My goal was to give Thunderbird Lodge the online exposer that it had lacked. In doing so, we recieved much appriciated feedback from our customers. We read every review, good and bad, and have made the neccessary changes. The Thunderbird Lodge has just completed its remodeling of the quest rooms and we welcome you come and check them out. We have also improved the amenities that are offered.

We had a late stop through and needed a place to stay before we left again in the morning. The manager was courteous and timely. The room was clean and the beds were fair. We did find a dirty wash cloth hanging up on the shower pole. Clearly the cleaning person missed it. They have a free breakfast in the morning that consists of some pastries and cereals and some fruit. Overall good stay for what it was. I would recommend for a quick stay.

We stayed there last night on our way home to Portland. The room in nice and clean; however, it’s insanely loud. It seriously felt as though I was sleeping in a tent. You can hear the life flight helicopters at the hospital next store. It sounds like they’re landing in your room. Oh, and let’s not forget about the trains and semis. Luckily I had a pair of earplugs in my bag to make it bearable. Unfortunately I wouldn’t stay here again. If you do, just make sure you have a pair of earplugs.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Thunderbird Lodge two weeks ago for just a day, as we were heading from Washington state to Southern California. I definitely wanted to write down the pros & cons of this hotel, for future guests to know ahead of time.
Pros — you won’t hear a lot of noise, as long as your room is on the same side as the office; the parking lot is safe; the rooms are very clean; the rooms have a good-​sized fridge, a microwave, and a desk; the restaurant in the parking lot is SUPER good and so is Heavenly Donuts (right around the hotel, open 24 hours); the continental breakfast is really good and there are a lot of items to choose from (starts at 7 a.m.)
Cons — I had a couple questions for the man working behind the counter, and he just seemed annoyed; the pool’s not open in March; the Wi-​Fi in the hotel room wouldn’t stay connected for a long period of time.

Recently updated and clean, this is our go-​to place to stay in Redding. Located in the historical downtown area, it’s within walking distance of many local eateries, (try Cinders Wood-​fired Pizza), shops and a Wells Fargo bank. Oh, and the college. The bed was comfortable and the hard wood type floor was clean enough to walk on barefoot. They are pet friendly, and reasonably quiet. The bathroom is quite small, but for a quick overnight stay it suits me just fine. The black out curtains worked so well I actually overslept.

Unfriendly service on all levels. The complimentary services of wifi, continental breakfast and television didn’t work, so basically they fulfilled having a clean room which is probably the most important aspect, kudos to the maids, but find a new a night man!

Well we figured it was a good choice to stay here on our way home since we had a good experience with this place on our way to Sacramento. If you need WiFi while you are here don’t count on it and don’t count on the front desk helping you with it. They told me they would check it and they never called me back it STILL was not working 15 min later so my husband called they told him they would look into it we tried for an hour had to call them 4 times then after saying it works in the office he blamed it on the Internet provider and there is nothing he can do. He Told my husband sometimes if you stand outside it will work. Um ok we are going to stand outside the hotel room at 11:30 at night to try and get online. Um NO. Only reason they have 2 stars is because first stay was good and our room is clean

The people are very nice and accommodating here. The rooms are clean and newly remodeled (I’m assuming) with hardwood floors — not something you see often in a motel lodge. Receptionist was helpful and very sweet (forgot her name). The only thing keeping from giving them 5 stars is that it’s in a very noisy part of downtown Redding.

I am a big fan of non-​chain, refurbished older motels… Thunderbird is a good example of one of these. Nice comfortable beds, well equipped rooms and remodeled throughout. I would stay again. Price was great for the comfort and cleanliness.

Not bad for a budget motel but you get what you pay for. First thing I do is inspect the bed and found the smell of chlorine a bit overpowering. There was a long hair curled up on one of the corners of the bed which I dismissed as coming from the washers (was too tired to care at the time). Once in bed it was evident the maintenance staff use way too much bleach as it made our skin itch, it was bearable but if you have sensitive skin you might want to reconsider or sleep wrapped up like a Christmas present. The walls are thin and if you are in a downstairs room you can hear every step the guests above you take as well as every car that passes by (which are many since this is situated next to a 4 lane street). The heaters don’t seem to have been updated during the renovation and are loud as well. Overall, very basic and good if you’re on a budget but I will pay the extra money for a nice and restful stop next time I’m around this part of town. Breakfast included cereal, yogurt, toast, bananas, coffee, orange juice, tea, and pastries.

My husband and I stayed here on our way up to Portland from the SF Bay area and can I say I loved it way more than expected. Those at the front desk were really helpful, especially when we were going to be checking in pretty late, and it was comfy and just what we needed for a place to sleep on the road. Oh and the prices are reasonable and saved us costs on breakfast for the next morning! This is our go to stop on the drive from Northern California to the North West!

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I stayed here a couple years ago pre-​renovations and it wasn’t that bad so I gave this place another shot. They must have placed us in the noisiest room possible! When the person above us walked around the room (at 5 in the morning!) or even shifted his weight, our ceiling sounded like it was cracking. When he turned on the shower, the pipes sounded like they were about to burst.
Basically, if you value sleep, DON’T STAY HERE.
What’s worse, I spoke to the front desk the next morning about the experience and he said he’d issue a refund as long as I contacted Orbitz. When I spoke to Orbitz about this experience they tried to issue a refund from the Lodge and the front desk would only authorize a 25% refund.
The establishment is super shady and do not care about customer service, don’t stay here! And if you still end up choosing to stay here, do not stay in room 207!

This has got to be one of the best «budget» motels we’ve stayed in.
You can’t beat the price! Had we seen the rooms before paying, we would’ve expected to pay more, but as other reviewers have said — it’s a really great deal.
The staff was able to accommodate our late check-​in request (turns out it’s staffed 24hrs) and parking was a breeze. The room is great — clean, recently renovated and it’s up to modern hotel standards (as of 2015). Fridge, microwave, and all the other basic amenities are included.
Simple continental breakfast is included as well. The only thing we wish they had is a Jacuzzi, which would’ve bumped them up to 6 stars :)
We will definitely stay here again!

I’m picky bout where I stay. This broke two of my «rules» 1) the name of the establishment includes «lodge» 2) u can see your car from the room.
After reading the reviews I felt confident in my choice. We booked it through
at $ 79. Like many others have said this place was recently renovated. Everything felt very clean about this place.
Our only slight complaint was the low pressure toilet… it was very low.
But we were in Redding, CA so it’s slim pickins.

Toll zentral gelegen und in Fussweite einiger Restaurants, die Zimmer sind nett eingerichtet und die Übernachtung kostet 78 USD, so weit so gut. Leider ist es nachts extrem laut, die Straßen rund um das Hotel Sind durch die dünnen Wände, so wahrnehmbar, dass man das Gefühl hat sie fahren durch das Zimmer. Ab und zu gesellt sich ein Zug dazu. In der Klima Anlage –die auch sehr laut ist– gurrten und scharrte es, Tauben. Ach ja das Frühstück: Continental und wer zuletzt kommt, muss essen was übrig bleibt.

Lucked out on this place! Great for our dog, walk away from awesome pizza at Cinders (including GF crust, salads and dessert pizzas!), and a cool pool! Totally necessary on this 100* evening. Clean, clean, clean, too.

We called to book a room the day of our stay and they had availability and the quoted price was $ 79! Deal Smeal!
I didn’t know what to expect when I got there but I was hopeful because their Unilocal reviews were so positive!
The Lodge must have been recently renovated because everything looked brand new! We asked for a room with a king sized bed and it was very comfortable. I was surprised the room had a decent sized refrigerator and a microwave in it!
The breakfast was pretty good too. They had cereal, some fruit, cinnamon rolls and coffee. I was very pleased with our stay there and if we pass through Redding again this is where we will stay!

Clean and nicely renovated. The beds and very comfortable and the breakfast is quite decent for such an affordable place.
The front desk lady was very nice. We checked in Memorial Day weekend with a reservation but the couple in front of us were turned away because they were booked solid. The lady was nice enough to call around and help them find a place.
They could use more parking. We got the last spot in the lot.

OK I’ll give them the Thunderbird retro sign for their old motor hotel though the rooms are not really retro but clean and new so that’s a good sign as well.
They are renovating the place as there are more rooms towards the back that they are working on.
I loved being able to just grab my stuff from the parking lot and put them in my room turnkey style.
They allow dogs and charge you a minimum of 10.00 though it was not that great for where a dog could do his business.
The location itself didn’t thrill us. It appeared sketchy and I expected to see Thunderbird bottles scattered around. As an aside here, we did go to the awesome Sundial Bridge which is 2 miles away.
