A diner lover’s diner. Cheap, great food. Cramped counter space and crowed booths. Very warm and welcoming. Downside is cash only, but there is an ATM, so it’s not an issue. Normally go with my lady and end up with a bill of less than $ 15. Highly recommend.

From the moment I laid eyes on you I knew I loved you. That’s what I would say if the restaurant actually could hear me. Honestly, delicious food every single time I go. At a price that cannot be beaten, at least i haven’t found a place with cheaper prices unless McDonalds is what your in too. Friends and I go most saturdays after a long night out. Always refilling coffee, and they know you need the water, they aren’t stupid. They cater to many adults and children, but on the weekend its nice to see that so many different college students have found out about this gem. Its a place you feel good going every time. As a business, thats all you want. I normally get the fritata, or a WHAM. Everything is great though, seriously if you haven’t tried it, your missing out.

I love Jims best breakfast place in Rochester! We’re else can you go in and out in 20 minutes get a wonderful breakfast under 10 bucks. Friendly atmosphere! Elina is always there working hard!

I suppose this reminds me of Mary’s Diner in Allegheny, NY where we as undergraduates at St. Bona ate late night omelets after a night at Club 17. That’s if I remember correctly. This place is a dive and sorta run down. The cook has got to be a machine to pump out that amount of food as it was very crowded on Saturday mid-​mornings and they are turning tables. Thank god because there was no room to stand and I stood outside in 15 degree weather for 20 minutes. All that said my meal was fantastic. Service was attentive without being annoying
Suggestion take a name give us one of those buzzing, vibrating, flashing things like Bill Grays does so we can pick up our weekend hardware supplies at Mayers across the street.

The food is really really good for the price, but the place is so dingy and dirty it makes me wonder about how clean the food prep/​cooking areas are! Cash only however there is an ATM if you’re like me and forgot !

The Good: For a solid breakfast with prices you can’t beat, this is the place to go in Rochester.
The Bad: Probably my biggest complaints are that it’s small, without the novelty of highland park and they’re cash only. They do have an ATM, but who wants to pay an ATM fee when one of the big selling points of the place is the low prices.

We make it a habit to get breakfast once or twice a month here. Classic diner setting and food. Coffee cakes are usually icing on the cake (pun intended). Not the cleanest place which may turn some away, but the breakfast is worth it. Note: does not accept cards so make sure you have cash. 2^nd location on main street is more open and doesn’t have the lines or wait.

Crispy hash browns, yummy omelette. Casual atmosphere. A++ I recommend getting there before 9am as it fills up quick.

Awesome breakfast. I had the special Banana pancakes and they were phenomenal. I took a bite and I just stopped for a minute to savor them. I really can’t describe how perfect they were. Fantastic service too. I sat at the counter to watch the magic at the grill. Breakfast and a show! I left off the 5^th star because it’s cash only.

There are a lot of really good family restaurants in Rochester. Some people like fancier places, but when I want a great breakfast I go to Jim’s. I’m an early riser and Jim’s is open at 5AM, before everyone else. Secondly the atmosphere is what you would expect from a world class diner; Friendly staff, ESPN on the TV above the counter and patrons talking world affairs. It’s a little cramped, but that’s part of the whole experience.
The food is just outstanding. Yes It’s hard to screw up eggs and bacon but, in my opinion, Jim’s has the best hash browns in Rochester. Bar none. I know because I’ve tried them all. This morning I arrived at 5:15 and had a spectacular breakfast of eggs, toast, 2 sausage patties, a heaping portion of hash browns, coffee and juice. The price was less than $ 5. Wow!
Give Jim’s a try but keep it to yourself or I’ll have to wait even longer for a booth on Sunday mornings.

Good food and comes out quick. Always packed which is good for business but not always when you want to just come in for a relaxing meal. They tend to rush you because of the turnover which I get but don’t like it as a customer. Try their home made coffee cake. They have different flavors each day and it’s always my favorite. Cash only though!

Very large and filling plate of eggs, potatoes, toast and bacon. Worth every penny of the 5 $ I spent.

I like Jim’s for three simple reasons:
1. It’s dirt cheap
2. Tasty diner type food
3. The characters that go here
Be prepared to enter a packed restaurant during weekend breakfast/​brunch hours. It’s chaotic and fun at the same time. I’m not gonna go off on a tangent about how amazing the food is here because in reality, it’s just diner food done well. The Elena’s Delight ($ 4.89) left me satisfied and my friend really enjoyed his tomato and broccoli omelet ($ 3.89).
It’s definitely not the cleanest place. The menus are all worn out and full of coffee stains. I guess you could say it gives the place more character! The waitresses sway from table to table topping your coffee off, sometimes missing the cup haha. But enough nitpicking… my friend and I had fun and we left satisfied. The bill ended up being around $ 12 for two meals and coffee. What’s not to like about that?!

When I pulled up to Jim’s Restaurant and saw the kind of structure the place was, I began to grow excited. Tiny little joints like this have always been my favorite kinds of places to go for breakfast, and I knew that as long as the service was halfway decent, I was probably going to really like this place.
In spite of the oft-​mentioned possibility for long waits at Jim’s, I must have hit the absolute right time, because my friend and I were able to be seated almost immediately upon entering. The interior is very small, kind of crammed, and definitely full of older equipment. But the place oozes character and charm from every picture frame on the wall and every permanent burn mark or scratch on the tables that have clearly seated thousands of people in their lifetime.
It didn’t take long for a waitress to bring us our drinks and take our orders. Everyone working there is definitely working hard, and efficiently, and there’s little wasted movement. The place operates like a very well-​oiled efficient machine, and there’s lots of communication between the staff that simply gets things done. Once acquired, my coffee cup seldom fell below half, as there was always at least one person going around with coffee seeing if anyone wanted refills.
Speaking of the staff, it felt like that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry and crew notice that all the waitresses were all suddenly attractive young women, not knowing yet that they were all sisters. That’s kind of how I felt at Jim’s, now I don’t know if any of the women working there were sisters or not, but there was this definite theme of attractive women working there that got me thinking about the comparison.
But anyway, I ordered a fritatta, which was a generous mish-​mash of potatoes, eggs, meat, peppers and onions. It didn’t take long to prepare, and further adds to the sentiment that Jim’s a place that churns out food and is quick and efficient about getting people in, and getting them out. Everything tasted freshly made, piping hot, and a very good portion size for the cost.
In the end, I was satisfied, well-​caffeinated, and definitely pleased with the overall experience. It’s places like Jim’s that I love finding while traveling, and the kinds of places that ingrain themselves as must-​go if I were to ever come back through Rochester again.

Weekday at 10ish and I’m in charge of selecting a restaurant for breakfast ( Unilocal to the rescue). Jim’s is still packed, but we manage to find enough seats between two tables and five stools at the counter.
As we drive up, my daughter’s friend says «Looks a bit sketchy». Parking is a bit random, but I find a place that seems okay to park and we head in. From there, our entire group couldn’t stop saying good things about Jim’s. Everyone got the ‘clean plate award’. I had a Frittata — very good. Also tried the coffee cake of the day.
Everything is made fresh, in good sized portions, and inexpensive. Service was friendly. My kind of place for breakfast. Note: cash only, so if you’ve spent it all the night before, make a stop by the ATM before you go.
Three days later, as we talk about picking up some breakfast, the girls all start asking if we can go to Jim’s again. No higher compliment.

Okay, my mind was blown this morning at Jim’s.
My boyfriend and I learned about this diner from Unilocal,and decided to give it a whirl. And we are so glad we did! Both of us ate for under $ 15. You can’t beat that.
I was feeling sweet AND savory, so I opted for the 2−2−2 deal which included 2 pancakes, 2 eggs & 2 pieces of meat – such a great deal for only $ 5! I added some bananas to my pancakes, and was in heaven.
The staff at Jim’s is SO friendly & very prompt. Coffee cups were never left empty for long & our food came out in under ten minutes. Hot & delicious!
Jim’s is a small diner, so I can assume it fills up quick in the weekends, but it’s worth it. Best diner breakfast I’ve had in a while. I will definitely be going back here.

I’ve been an off an on regular of Jim’s since 1997. Used to live around the corner, used to take my car to Bob & Earls until we switched to Vesa’s Automotive on Culver & University. Whenever I take my car for service @ Vesa’s I drop it off and then hie on down to Jim’s for breakfast. As my photo states, this is the ultimate neighborhood hang. Even if you move out of the neighborhood (as I did) or have never lived in the Browncroft Neighborhood.
Every time I come here it’s always the same… which is pretty good! No inconsistent service or food. The wait staff is pretty busy & incredibly efficient. Food, as other reviewers have stated, is inexpensive & plentiful. You CAN dine here without dropping a tenner for breakfast. My favorite meal here is breakfast, which for me is the late riser. Two eggs, potatoes, meat, toast juice & coffee. Eggs ALWAYS done properly, potatoes ALWAYS cooked to the right temp, Toast ALWAYS toasted well. You get the picture. Coffee is always fresh & hot & refills are plentiful.
You can if you want to, bring your mug in and have it hanging alongside the others, ready to go. It’s a neighborhood thing. If you come to Jim’s often, you’ll feel as if you’re a neighbor…

This is a Rochester staple for sure. A brunch for 2 under $ 15 is always a win… I will eat to that!
Ok, so I committed a cardinal sin and didn’t get breakfast when I came here the first time. Regardless, I love a club sandwich from a diner. Sometimes I love diner lunches more than breakfast… maybe because I know I can whip up fried eggs easily in my own kitchen. I’m a salty-​savory food lover all the way and can’t deny myself deli meat and bacon all stacked together. I ordered the Turkey Club Sandwich which comes with ruffle chips. I swapped out a wedge of my sandwich for my companion’s Tuna Club Sandwich to get some variety. Delish! My belly was happy. Both sandwiches were perfectly portioned with mayo, meat, lettuce and bacon. Ohhh, the bacon. Next visit, I might even ask for an extra side of bacon to kick it up a notch. You only live once, right? Their coffee isn’t mind blowing, but I expect that at most diners. It comes with the territory.
I was dying to come back from breakfast. I saw several plates of hash browns pass my way on my first visit here — hefty, crispy pile of starch and the long list of breakfast specials… quite enticing. Then, I had that chance this weekend. The hash browns lived up to my expectations — I recommend adding a dash of salt to enhance the flavor. Unfortunately, the breakfast special I wanted was sold out. Granted, we walked in right before they closed. Also, that’s a good sign. It’s a popular one. So, next time I’ll be there early to get the Southern Special (2 eggs, ½ biscuit with sausage gravy and choice of potato). Despite that, I was happy with my canadian bacon & cheddar omelette.

Cheap, great, fast breakfast and friendly staff! Breakfast is one of my fav meals of the day. I always end up just getting eggs, sausage, toast and home fries, but I have been making myself stray from the reg!
I ordered a mushroom, pepper and onion omelet with home fries and toast. I received a fully loaded plate for only $ 4.85 (including the added cost for home fries). Between my boyfriend’s plate (eggs benedict w/​perfectly poached egg) and mine, we only spent $ 12.60!
I can see this being my new go to place for breakfast. The only downside is, it’s very small, but you can always sit at the counter and bypass the line. After all it’s a diner, you can watch the cooking happen, kinda like a breakfast Hibachi with out the price :)!
