I decided to take my family here for dinner because of the 4-​star rating. It was our first visit and it wasn’t a pleasant one. I guess it was an off night… Our wait for our food was too long; my daughter didn’t get her meal; we had to remind the staff 2x. By the time she got her meal, we were all done eating.. Just watching the servers stressing, rushing and running around makes an unpleasant dining experience and it’s not even that busy compared to other Japanese restaurants we frequent. They seem so unorganized. I suggest that the staff needs to calm down and be more organized. You guys are running and rushing around too much. Im giving 3 star because they were apologetic for the long wait. But, I don’t think we will be back.

A really good find! I’ve been coming here twice a week now for a month, ever since I discovered Aji Ichi. First, I came for lunch– really liked it. Then i came for dinner and I kept going back.
I also discovered that Jason knows his fish and knows that quality is key. Sit at the bar if you’re coming for dinner. He will treat you to some good sushi and introduce you to good Sake if you ask.
Easy to get to and there’s parking nearby. Prices are moderate but food quality is high.

Don’t miss out this restaurant when you come to San Bruno City! Jason, the new owner, is friendly and considerate, and also the dishes are awesome! You can either try their fresh sashimi platter, hand-​made sushi and different kinds of fish dishes or order short rib, lamb and pork if you want cooked food. You will not be disappointed.

The new management has done wonders to this place! I’ve been here for a few times the past few months and have been happier and happier each time!
For a nearby sushi place, the quality, service, and overall ambiance are just top of the line! Dinner combinations are about $ 13, solo dishes are $ 10, and sushi rolls range from $ 10 – 13! I usually love getting their chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, mixed tempura. The chicken Katsu and other grilled fish options are just okay, but overall I also love their plates and presentation for their sushi and combo plates! I advise getting a combo for your money’s worth and a roll to share! For rolls, I suggest the spider roll as its huge, but all of them look so good!
In addition to their great in house service, they also do delivery and take out. I just ordered take out recently and they added a free caterpillar roll ! The waitress even put it in a box since I ordered a lot and asked me to sit and have some tea! Now that’s what I call service!!! I highly recommend trying this semi new joint out!

ok it went up an extra star bc of the free orange I got :-) I enjoyed my udon soup bc it wasn’t salty, lots of restaurants put way too much salt that it becomes unbearable to finish. I finished the soup and ate most of the sushi, I was stuffed. love the new remodeled look, not hot in the room anymore. nice ppl, good food, it still stands, if I wanna have Japanese food near by, def worth a look

My boyfriend and I went here on a Thursday night, and considering it’s across from Artichoke Joe’s Casino, finding parking was a little tricky. The two main hostesses were very friendly and provided some helpful suggestions on what to order. We ordered the Lover’s Boat since it came with a variety of sushi, sashimi, and oysters. The hamachi sashimi and oysters were my favorite and the most fresh. The rest (tuna, salmon, Cali roll, and Green Dragon roll) were not as fresh tasting but still good. Definitely will try out the other options next time!

Ever since the new owner taken this place, my boyfriend and I have always been a loyal customer to the old owners-​Jade/​Francis. Therefore, we gave this place a shot.
I gave it a 4 star: 1) Impress what the new place look like 2) More upscale and the food was pretty good. 3) Staff is friendly
Their style is a little bit different and is not like the traditional Japanese style of which I’m used too. If you know and had ate at a real traditional Japanese restaurant, than you know what I’m talking about.
The only thing I have to say is that the price is a bit more expensive, which I’m surprise because of the location and the demographic. I live in San Francisco and prices is allot more higher then other city. Especially then the Peninsula area. I feel the new owner charge the same price as what the San Francisco price is. My boyfriend and I ordered 2 bento boxes, 2 sushi rolls, a side of poke salad and 1 hot saki. With tip our bill came out to $ 80 something dollars. Honestly, I didn’t think it was worth it to pay that much. That is something we spend eating in the city and is way better. Especially we have allot more options to eating at various sushi restaurants. I wouldn’t drive to San Bruno to pay for that much for a sushi and rather eat in the city like Ebisu or Ozumo if you want something high in.
Although, I do miss the mom and pop environment the way it was before and when the price was way more reasonable to go with the demographic of the location.
Other than that, I would have to say this is the only place in their area that is good for sushi.

I used to eat a lot over here, and the food used to be really good, but something about these last two times I’ve been here the soup has been very watered down and tasteless. I am a little concerned over the fact that this place used to be really busy, but my last two visits here it has been completely empty the entire time we were here and it’s Super Bowl weekend. All the other restaurants in the area are busy and crowded. Maybe I’m not the only one experiencing loss of taste and quality in their food. I’m not going to totally discredit the place and say don’t ever hear, but just be aware that the food might taste a little bland.

This place is under new management which is apparently why it tastes and runs so much better. I never ate here prior to new management taking over but judging by old reviews it was nothing compared to what it is now.
I’ve tried many in the area (just moved here from Orlando, FL) and have to say it’s the best sushi/​japanese restaurant so far.
They really care about customer experience as well whether take-​out or dine-​in the owner and staff have always been very kind and accommodating. 5 stars!

The new owner asked me to update my review (and picture — LOL. Yes, I am not as thin as I was 10 years ago-​who is? Harsh photo jab or language barrier-​lol) when she dropped off my order Christmas Eve. I have been ordering takeout A couple times a week but plan to visit and dine in to get a sampling of their sashimi selection and sample the difference from the previous owners. In other words, I am saving my review post dine in.

This little piece of heaven was my warm introduction to this cozy little restaurant. The hamachi was fresh and a quick blow torch to the top created a rich and light flavor that accentuated the individual components of this glorious mouthful. A must try! Not sure if it’s on the menu, we sat the bar, so show the picture!

The sashimi melted in my mouth while subtle notes of richness and fresh ocean danced around on my tongue. The texture was firm and the glossy sheen signed a fatty belly cut. It quickly melted like butter and lingered long after the fish was consumed.
Oysters

If you’re a fan of oysters, you gotta try them here. These oysters were small, but packed a big punch with a huge flavor profile. The subtle sour taste of the juices preps the palate for the delectable bite ahead and is a slam dunk in my book. Try it!
There were other great dishes that were not photographed due to my unwillingness to compromise my dining experience any further. This place is the spot to try if you’re looking for a new sushi restaurant to try out.

Why is this place underrated? Really have great service, great food, portions, affordable and you get free hot sake and edamame. Where else would you find that? This place is under new ownership and is renovated. We’ve been to the old one and actually really love it from then. Great for lunch especially. Highly recommend getting the fireball sushi! Was there with my husband last week. Food taste was the not the bestest, average. Sashimi cut was normal average size. Food portion was considered small compared to Akagi and Spiral which is approximately few blocks away. Menu selection is average. Price is average. Environment and restaurant design is average. Parking is average easy access. Service is average.
So with all the «average» comment mentioned, what other attraction is left to gain a returning customers??? FREE stuff!!! Which they offer a free California Roll at $ 35 and above!!! If one average bento lunch box is $ 10-​$ 12.00, with 2 people ordering it, we will not get our FREE roll. If everything is so «average», then why should I come back to eat here? I can simply go eat at Spiral and get a free appetizer roll of 4 choices AND don’t have a $ 35 minimum requirement.
Would I come back? Eh… Maybe if friends want to try it out. Would it be recommended? No!

food: for some reason, I really enjoyed their green tea. I had many cups of it. we got the hamachi roll, katsu curry dinner, and combo with sashimi and tempura. tempura was decent, but the tuna sashimi was fishy tasting. miso soup was standard. their pink ginger (that comes with sushi) is spicy! hamachi roll was good. the katsu was fine, but I wouldn’t get it with curry next time. the curry was very salty. i did like their generous portion of pickled radish with it.

service: family run which I always appreciate. they are pretty good at refilling the tea and taking away finished trays/​bowls. It was busy so I think we accidentally got someone else’s salad and pickled cabbage. we didn’t realize this until later when our entrees came out both with salad and one with cabbage. the waitress also misheard me and gave us the hamachi roll instead of spicy hamachi roll.
