OHEMGEE!!! These folks are lucky the food is pretty good cause Gotttdaammm is the service whack! My daughter takes Tae Kwon Do across the street and so every so often I’ll pop in for a bite. My daughter’s class takes about 45 min. so about 15 min. in I run across the street to place my order. Class ends. Food not done. Daughter and I sit and wait about 15 more min. STILL not done. and which ever waitress was supposed to be helping us was SOOOOOOORUDE! like, Rude looking even. Her face did not look like she was happy at all to be there. Passed us a bunch of times and didn’t even say, anything about the food being almost done. AND when the food finally came, one of the orders was wrong and she looked mad at me like I placed the order wrong! WTF man?! I went there one more time after that and same thing. So doubt I’ll be in there again.

This is a good little local spot, and wasn’t very busy at noon on a Thursday. It was hard to tell whether it was open or not from the front, you might have to look closely and at least try the door. Haha They seated me quickly and served me miso soup and were ready for my order at any moment. I ordered the Super Dynamite roll($ 6.95) and asked for it to be mild. It came out fresh and hot, not too spicy, and I was on my way back to work in under 25 minutes. No complaints on price or food from me!

I have been a faithful patron of this location for 10+ years. I have to say that it is quite disappointing to see the level of service where it is currently at. In my time coming to this location, I had never seen two separate parties leave due to the lack of attention all within than 30 minutes. Management, if you are reading this please pay attention to ensure that you get back to the level of service and quality that you previously had.

..:~~Every night in my dreams… I see you… I taste you… Food can touch us one time and last for a lifetime and never let go till we’re done… Near, far, wherever you are. I believe that the heart does go on… SUSHI!!!~~:. 3.5 stars for food quality, quantity, and cheap prices ;) .:[[LOCATION/AMBIANCE]]:. Sushi House is a local, mom ‘n pop hole-in-the-wall sushi joint in downtown San Bruno located on ‘The Avenue’. I was craving for sushi/Japanese food and furiously searched the San Bruno/Millbrae area. Of course slim pickings around the area but my bf and I decided to go local and cheap. We didn’t know what to expect but it wasn’t going to be some swanky Michelin restaurant. Arriving 830PM, parking was aplenty. There’s a blue sign that says«Sushi House» and one entrance door. The interior was much larger and more spacious than what the exterior leads you to believe. The décor and ambiance is simple with a range of brown color palettes and mostly blank walls. Not much in terms of flashy photos or paintings but the wooden chairs and tables gives a homely humble touch. An awesome full blown traditional sushi bar was right in the corner. .:[[FOODLOWDOWN]]:. The menu is comprehensive and impressive ohoho! Most specialty rolls are under $ 15 and regular rolls were under $ 9. I chose the Special Dinner box $ 9.95 and ordered the beef teriyaki, chicken katsu, and California roll. The only crime this box committed was not having ENOUGH of the delicious food! The beef was tender and drizzled in delicious teriyaki sauce, while the katsu was perfectly crispy and crunchy. The roll pieces were quite large and fresh as well. Each component of the box was top notch quality with good-sized quantity. For under $ 10, the portion and quality was superb. My bf and I enjoyed their deep fried oysters, and he had high praises for their Dragon Roll $ 8.95. The shrimp tempura and unagi toppings were on point! .:[[FIN]]:. Service is unmemorable, borderline non-existent. I met the employees aforementioned in other reviews but I was met with no difficulty fortunately. Overall for under $ 40, my bf and I had a spectacular, casual dinner date. Why not 4 stars for such a raving review? I’ve been to other Japanese joints that had personable service and beautiful interior and earned a 4 stars. Unfortunately I can’t put Sushi House at that high caliber but I am more than happy to return as a loyal customer!

Man, I don’t know why I keep coming back. This place used to be AMAZING two years ago. Now, it’s down right terrible. Food is so-so, not bad and not great. What pisses me off is that I had a very bad tasting spicy tuna roll. Like it tasted gross.(Photo attached) Told the waitress and she proceeded to confirm with the chef that it’s fresh and pushed it back on me like I was crazy. LOL. WOW. On top of that, my wife was half finished with her miso soup and she stuck her fingers in it while attempting to remove it from our table, thinking she was done. Seriously, ASK before grabbing people’s food. !!servers name is JULIE. if you get her, run. !! I’m not coming back. Coupled with the fact that they never answer their phone during peak hours, poor poor poor service, and the one time I didn’t like the taste of a roll, they act this way. They lost a regular. We spend at least $ 200-$ 300 a month here for quick lunches. Seriously. Go elsewhere. There’s a reason why it’s 25% full during lunch hour.

Miso soup was pretty tasty. The pork in the Donburi was full of gristle. Oshitashi was very stringy and literally difficult to chew. Salmon Skin roll was boring. Not going back.

As a regular, food is sub par, you get what you pay for. It’s not great, it’s not terrible, it’s just ok. But that’s not why this place has such a low rating. Worst part is purely based on the service they provide. The waitresses are the absolute worst. Often, they forget you are even there. One time it took 15 minutes for us to receive a menu! And the worst part is that tonight one waitress tried to embarrassed me in front of other customers when I did not give tip. Service was bad(Something that you have to get used to as a regular.) yet I was hounded in front of other customers as I was leaving the place– they practically would not let me leave until I paid a tip. That was when I flat out refused and simply told the waitress that I refuse to pay the tip considering the less than satisfactory service. Other customers stared at that waitress while she was hounding me for no right reason. Remember, tip is never a mandatory part of the check. I know for sure I wasn’t the one that was embarrassed that night. Service has always made me weary to go back but overall, after this night, it’s makes me feel uncomfortable to go back ever again. If this place had a separate rating based on service, it’d be a 0⁄0.

This sushi restaurant was OK. Service was eh, could be better and the food could be more tasteful but you do get what you paid for. The good thing about this restaurant though is they have really cheap prices. So if you want a quick sushi fix and don’t want to spend a lot on a bento box, hit this place up cause it’s only $ 10 bucks! My co worker and I come here at least once a month Friday nights. It’s a little small inside so expect to sit really close to other customers.

Like a lot of people who reviewed this place, you get what you paid for. If you are looking for a place with good service, this is not the place for you. I came here with my bf on NYE and found this place on Unilocal. This place had decent reviews and I didn’t feel like waiting at Amami so we gave this place a try. We came in and got seated, and the waitress immediately brought over two complimentary bowls of miso soup. So I thought, «oh how nice of them.» We looked at the menu and ordered the sashimi deluxe, agadashi tofu, and the chicken teriyaki with tempura. Couple mins later we go our side salad that went with the chicken teriyaki and then the waitress gave us our tempura. The tempura was still hot but it was mainly batter for most the tempura we had. Then our chicken teriyaki came and it looked like the sauce was very thick that it’s lumpy. It didn’t look fresh. We still ate it of course cause we were hungry, but the teriyaki sauce was definitely different. Our deluxe sashimi came and I guess I was always used to having thick slices of sashimi(places in the east bay give you generous portions for the same price) and these were a lot thinner and smaller. The sashimi wasn’t bad for the price but wasn’t great either. I think out of everything, I liked the agedashi tofu the most because it was hot and crispy while still soft in the inside. Originally, I was going to give this place 3 stars but it took the waitress a good 20 mins to recognize us and to give us our bill. It did get a little bit busier after we came but there were two waitresses and neither of them once checked on us or refilled our tea. I have been to way busier restaurants and at least there was always someone who at least asked us how we were doing. Never again will I come here. Food is cheap but not worth it if they don’t appreciate your business.

Sushi rolls were good. However it went downhill from there. The Salmon Teriyaki was burnt. Service was bad. They forgot the seaweed salad, shrimp tempura, and a fork that we requested. We had to ask for the fork, seaweed salad, and the shrimp tempura again. They brought the fork and salad but never brought the shrimp. AND they never came back to see if we. needed anything else like the shrimp. When she finally came she brought the check. Well we had them take off the shrimp. Needless to say no TIP.

Honestly I love this place. My family has come here before and I have left a pleasant review in the past. However the last few times I have eaten/attempted to eat here the service has been absolutely the worst I have experienced at a restaurant. I’m shocked at how down hill it’s beeb going. My grandma is about finished with her box right now and my grandfather and I still haven’t been given our rolls(we ordered 3) however the tables next to us that sat down and ordered after we did are already eating. They forgot, soup, tea, plates, 3 rolls, and when given my glass with ice for my Coke it was all water. I just drank it without the glass since they never came back with a new one. I don’t think we will be eating here anymore. I would give them 4 stars for the food but I would give them 0 stars for service, the last time I tried to eat here they never even seated us.

You can find pretty good sashimi here. I had the Deluxe Chef Special. I also believe I had a sun roll. Crab on the inside. Salmon and thin orange slices on the outside. I’m all about freebies because that adds value to my purchase. This place gives all customers free miso soup. Awesome. I’ll be back.

This is a great little hole-in-the-wall. The food isn’t fancy but it’s tasty. The gyoza weren’t quite crispy enough, the karaage chicken likewise. The miso soup was very good though, and the sushi rolls surprisingly fresh and beautifully presented. It was pretty crowded, but still service was fairly inattentive; we had to flag the server down for everything we needed. No ambience to speak of.

This place is always a go to spot when I go with my parents. This time it was slower than usual. The only thing was it took a long time to get our food. I finished my ENTIRE bento box and my boyfriend still didn’t get his order yet. Overall it’s okay, prices are affordable, gets the sushi craving out the way! Just be prepared to get your food at different times, don’t expect it to all come at once.

Sometime you do get what you pay for. And when you pay for an $ 8 bento box, well you get a fake california roll, awful salad, small portions of beef, and well, not that great service. My buddy likes it here because it’s cheap, like him. I can’t imagine coming here again unless I’m dragged, kicking and screaming…

I’m surprised I haven’t reviewed this place! I’ve been going here for years and years(since I was in middle school and that brief time my family and I had an obsession with this place). I love the chicken teriyaki and the pink dragon roll. Always so yummy. The dishes stay pretty consistent and the service is pretty quick. Yummy place for great sushi and very affordable lunch specials($ 6 – 7). Check out the parking in the back!

I came to sushi house for dinner with a group of 8 people to celebrate some birthdays. My friends told me that it was affordable and they provide plenty of food. Sitting down and looking at the menu I couldn’t decide what to get, and they provided us with miso soup. I took a few sips and it was delicious. The umami boost from the soup jump started my mind and I decided to get the tempura soba and chicken karaage. Everyone else got bento boxes and sushi. My tempura was the first to come out. 20 minutes later everyone got their meals but I still did not get the chicken karaage appetizer or the soba noodles that was to accompany my noodles. After I asked the rest of my food quickly came out. For those who don’t know, soba dipping noodles are suppose to be firm, cold and refreshing. I ended up with warm and soggy noodles. The chicked karaage were fried tiny nubs of chicken. The nubs were at least mostly meat, but its grain size made me think they just scrap chicken trimmings from the chicken they use in the bento boxes. Everyone else was satisfied with their meals, so I think I ordered the wrong thing at the wrong time. I would give this place another try especially for a 3 item bento box for 10 dollars. Just stay away from the soba.

If you are looking for a no frills place without the normal interminable wait for Japanese food while on the Peninsula or of you are by the SFO Airport then this is the place for you! In fact, this is a must stop for us whenever we get dropped off or pick people up at the nearby airport for a quick but hearty meal. We always get the Happy Box meal with gives you three choices ranging from Teriyaki(Beef, Chicken or Salmon), Katsu(Chicken or Pork), Tempura or a Sashimi sampler that comes with miso soup and a side of rice and salad. All for the low cost of $ 9.95 for dinner(used to be $ 8.95 but I digress) and at lunch it’s only $ 6.50! How can you lose? You can’t, and it’s the best option along the very busy San Mateo Avenue, an up coming outlet filled with mom and pop restaurants, stores, work out studios, and cafes with plenty of 2 hour parking options. I love that this family owned place is never slammed with people,(Which is not a bad thing) and there always seems to be a seat available. The food, it not only affordable but it’s really really tasty. Is it the best Japanese food you will ever taste? Is it the freshest cuts of raw fish? Probably not, but it will be one best values and fulfilling meals you will get while on the Peninsula in bustling San Bruno.

Craving for sushi at around 8pm and stumbled upon this area. Service was nice and quick. Sat down and was served hot rice tea and a bowl of miso soup. The miso was decent and not over salty. Ordered the salmon skin roll, dragon roll, and a crunchy california roll. Total came to about $ 20. The 3 sushi rolls took about 10 minutes to prepare. Dragon roll is always a good choice. They prepared it well, though the tempura could have been a bit more crunchier. The Crunchy Cali roll, not really to my liking. The batter they used is the flaky kind. I would have prefered the batter they used for the tempura. But that’s just my preference talking. And lastly, the salmon skin roll. This was just ok. It’s probably something I will not order next time. I’m still trying to find a good place that serves a good salmon skin. All in all, this place is decent for sushi. Prices are affordable and reasonable. Service is good. Would I recommend or specially drive to this place for sushi, maybe not…
