Los Primos Mexican Restaurant

Best Mexican in town!!! There I said it, don’t mess around anywhere else this food is fresh and super good not canned beans and greasy stuff.

Seriously??? How do these people get decent reviews with their service?! I’ve never seen such rude customer service. Seriously!!! Plus– the food is just not that good. Very very mediocre, plus bad service.

I am really on the fence about this place… It seems like one of those joints that has hit or miss items. You might have to go a couple times and sample out the menu until you find something that satisfies your taste buds. And that might mean leaving being unhappy a couple of times until you find what you like. One thing I loved was the outdoor seating. Small dogs are allowed on the patio. For me that is a huge bonus because we had my puppy with us. So we sat outside at one of the tables under an umbrella. We ordered the nachos, potato flauntas, a couple beers and a soda. The nachos were huge! Carne asada looked good, but there wasn’t that much cheese on them. Nachos should have plenty of cheese right? We also went with the potato flauntas with rice and beans. The rice and beans were disgusting. They tasted like yesterday crap reheated and served up. Absolutely bland tasting. The potato flauntas however were great! Filled with potato and cheese. Mmm mmm. I bet the potato tacos would be amazing! I loved the cheese and potato stuffed in the flauntas. Service was fine and the owner was friendly and helpful. We would come back. I’m going for the potato tacos though for sure! And skipping the rice and beans.

Awesome food, better service! We accidentally ordered the wrong thing. The owner fixed it for free, even though it was our fault. Super tasty food, 6 star service!

Legit Tacos al pastor. Great Pozole! The guy let me sample the Barbacoa, if I only had more room in my belly. My buddy ordered Carne Asada Fries and it’s a massive plate with fresh medium cooked Asada. MUST COME BACK!!!

This as an excellent place to eat Mexican food in San Clemente.
By far, it is the freshest and cleanest tasting Mexican in town.
The owners are also the chefs, and they clearly pour passion into their food.
Ask for extra salsa! It will be worthwhile.
I won’t give my money to any of the other places in town anymore.
Yes, sometimes they aren’t the fastest, but if you want fast, you have to sacrifice quality, or visit chipotle. Here they will make whatever you ask, and it will be excellent.

Awesome food. I went on Tuesday last week and was not disappointed. I normally go to Golondrinas for half price tacos, but this place is worth the extra dough. Fresh, homemade salsa, unbelievable enchilada sauce and perfectly cooked beans are just a few reasons I will be changing my taco tuesday routine. The fact they have a beer and three taco combo for $ 7.99 will have me second guessing any other mexican restaurant in town. Los Primos is truly that indeed.

Food was fresh and delicious, cooked to order! Generous portions. Great service. Very accommodating for our family with two young children.

Seriously had the best veggie burrito that the staff dreamt up for me. I walked in with a frazzled look, the super sweet gentleman behind the counter asked what I wanted (Veggie Burrito) them whipped up the best thing I’ve ever eaten. Highly recommend this quick, easy and RELAXING spot. Their outdoor patio was my everything. Will be back again!

Was leaving a meeting and saw this little place… What a wonderful surprise! It is casual, small and quaint. Nothing is fancy except that it is located on a lovely street in gorgeous historic old town San Clemente. It is super clean, it is charming in its own way. Has a great vibe to it and even has a cute out door seating area. Everyone was helpful and very pleasant and then there is the five stars, THE FOOD! Los Primos has some of the most delicious Mexican food I’ve had in a long time. It’s like the lovely food you get in Mexico that you think about for days, weeks and months after you have left. it’s comfort Mexican food with home made sauces, fresh ingredients, wonderful caldos, or soups, perfectly tasty and crunchy tacos, sopes, soft tacos enchiladas… Their food is made fresh to order, indeed it is. Los Primos is definitely worth visiting!

Stopped in this past Sunday for a quick bite to go. It was roughly 9:45 am and there were only two other patrons inside and so after a cursory glance at the menu, I decided on a breakfast burrito.
Although there was a sign indicating ‘Please be patient as we cook our food fresh’, I was surprised how long my breakfast burrito actually took. Like literally almost 15 minutes and there was no one else that I could discern was waiting for their own order. This gave me a chance to just take in the place and I let my eyes wander…
They wandered to the missing ceiling tiles, the exposed wiring, the missing wall rails, the scuffed and chipped paint, the bent furniture, and so many other oddities. Seriously, the place looks like no one has put in any recent effort to ‘tidy up’ in quite a while, and it’s not that big of a place to maintain. There’s something to say when simple five minute fix-​its, repairs, and organization are clearly not a priority.
But enough of that. I was finally handed my bag and walked down the street to find myself a small bench. Unfortunately I noted that I was given no salsas, napkins, or utensils. While the burrito itself was indeed hot and ingredients seemed fresh, sadly… and I don’t know how else to say this… it needed to be drained. How a breakfast burrito was this soggy and seemingly full of water (steam?) I’ll never know. Tortilla literally disintegrated in my hands ¹⁄₃^rd of the way through. Too messy to be eaten this way, I definitely needed a plate.
I’ve eaten at other Los Primos, and this was by far not my best experience.

The atmosphere is awful. Run down and dirty looking.
Food was actually AWESOME but if I’m spending $ 20 on 1 meal and chips (no drink or extras) I expect the atmosphere to not look like a run down 50 year old interior.
The prices are high compared to most. I’m used to spending $ 15 on one plate in a sit down full service restaurant… not a shack.
Paint peeling, tiles cracking, dirty ambiance… but like I said… so tasty!

Very friendly staff, fair pricing. Food was good with generous portions. Three tacos, beans n rice and a coke hit the spot after a playing in the ocean.

Ok. Unilocal doesn’t usually lead me astray but every once in an unfortunate blue moon, it does. I honestly don’t know how this place has such high reviews. It must be from family and friends. Seriously.
Here is what we ordered
1. Fish tacos (tasted fishy and bland, BLEH)
2.Chillaquilles (just ok)
3. Steak fries (not good)
4. Chorizo and eggs (just ok)
Every single thing was mediocre at best (and barely edible at worst).
Don’t believe the hype. This place is overpriced. Dirty. The people who work here DONT WEAR GLOVES when they prepare the food. The cashier wasn’t friendly.
I highly recommend that you DONT eat here.

I’m somewhat shocked to see these high reviews of this restaurant. Man, I came here based on them… and I just feel bad to say that the food, and service aren’t even to par at all. The flavor of the food was bland, and badly cooked. And what made even worse, is that the price we paid was EXTREMELY high for the type of quality that we got from this restaurant.
The place is more about the looks and NOT about quality of food. My family, and friends were totally disappointed.

Just what we needed after a 6.5 hour drive from the Bay Area!
Yay for generous portions, and beer on tap, and quick service, and tables outside in the sun with umbrellas.
I got the chilequiles. They didn’t revolutionize chilequiles for me, but they totally hit the spot, and I cleaned them up, every last bite! Also, always nice to have the option to have breakfast at 3pm too!
I love it when mexican restaurants have mexican beer on tap. I’m just so used to only being able to have a Corona or a Negro Modelo in a 12oz bottle. It’s great to have a pint sometimes!
This place is super casual. Order at the counter, not much space inside, etc…

Amazing! Rojas sauce just won an award at the San Clemente festival! Amazing on enchilada and on tacos.
The real thing! My son loved his torta and I also enjoyed the verde enchilada. The beans were delicious and I don’t usually waste calories on them. Everything is made fresh in house. Thank you for doing it right, I’ll be back tomorrow!
