Description

Specialties

Fig Tree Café — A modern california eatery offering breakfast, lunch & dinner 7 days/week.

We use only the freshest, in season local ingredients. Our house potatoes are seasoned with rosemary that we grow at our Pacific Beach location, our eggs are from an all natural, family owned ranch in Ramona.

Our dinner menu has significant influence from Italy and Spain with numerous «tapas» sized appetizers and thin crust 10″ pizzas.

The restaurant design is inviting and warm with one brick wall with rustic metal cut-outs spelling out «Fig Tree Café», another wall concrete with a large metal art piece drilled in the shape of a fig tree with LED lights shining through. Other walls are decorated with reclaimed wood from an old fence in east county and another made up with a colleague of photos, pictures and food and wine articles. The floor-to-ceiling wine rack separates the entrance walkway from the dining room. From the ceiling hangs retro light bulbs which bring the entire design together.

History

Established in 2011.

Fig Tree Café first opened it’s doors in the laid back neighborhood of north Pacific Beach in 2008. After winning numerous awards including best Brunch in San Diego 2010 by Channel 10 news, Hillcrest was the perfect community for Fig Tree Café to open it’s 2nd location in 2011.

The philosophy of using only fresh, local and all-natural ingredients combined with attentive, un-pretentious service is shared by both locations.

Meet the Business Owner

Johan and Alberto E.

Business Owner

Johan Engman opened Fig Tree Café in Pacific Beach in 2008 and looked to extend the dining experience for Fig Tree Café’s new Hillcrest location. When partnering with award winning executive chef Alberto Morreale it was a perfect match.

Alberto’s culinary experience began in Sicily at the age of 14. After becoming certified in Italian cuisine and working in some of the finest restaurants in northern Italy, Alberto moved to one of the new culinary hot spots in America; San Diego. Here, he worked as executive chef for numerous restaurants. We are excited to welcome him to the Fig Tree Café Family!
