Jimmy Wong’s Golden Dragon Asian Bistro

This used to be the best spot! Until they changed the menu and upped the prices! They still have really great costumer service but I loved the old menu:(

The food here was better than I had expected! Never was a fan of Thai food but the papaya salad and the drunken noodles was good!!! Service here tho was not that great! Took forever for them to bring us water! I was super hungry and they took forever to get our order! The plus about this place they are open late!

I love how this spot is open till 3am. And they have food that is deeeelisssh for a place that’s open till late. I always come by here at like 2am for some reason. Service here is great, the servers are always friendly and attentive. Food here is really good, I’ve had their pad thai, drunken noodles, curry, flower cups, and I forgot what else I’ve eaten here but everything is good. This place is kinda small, so it can get packed. And parking is eh. But this place is the place to be at for a late night meal (:

Great service, great food, great drinks, slightly higher price than normal. The only thing is that the hours are throughout the night only, but still a really great place to go if you’re having late night cravings!

After late night drinks… comes late night munchies. Since we’re all Unilocalers, Stephanie S., Kat T., and I quickly jumped on our Unilocal app to see if there were any restaurants opened late that could quiet our grumbling stomaches.
Jimmy Wong’s Golden Dragon Asian Bistro popped up — what’s great is that they conveniently close at 3am! Seems like everyone had the same idea as us because there was a huge line out the door. Good thing service is really speedy!
— Drunken Noodles ($ 9.95 with veggies, $ 10.95 with chicken or pork, $ 11.95 with beef or shrimp): their most popular wide rice noodle. The spiciness level at 3 was good enough for us! (Trust me, Thai spicy is on another level.)
— Egg Noodles Shrimp Wonton Soup ($ 10.95, add $ 4 with roasted duck): If you’re looking for wontons, you might be disappointed since they only give you three wontons. There was a good portion of noodles though!
Great restaurant to dine at if you’re looking to satisfy those drunchies!

Great late night place to go. I’ve tried quite a few entrées and appetizers, and I’ve really enjoyed my experiences here.
Now I haven’t had anything that blew me away as far as finding a new favorite entrée but their drunkin noodles came close, I really enjoyed it! I have also enjoyed their duck soup along with their Won Ton soup both were good.
I’ve also tried a variety of other appetizers and dishes over the years, for the most part all worth ordering.
Now as I said earlier this is a great late night option, if you need good food and it’s late you should probably check this place out because it’s open!
The place has a nice dim lit kind of happening ambiance going for it. You will find it right in the heart of Hillcrest literally right off the 163 freeway. Parking can be a bit challenging in the area. If you have a 24hr fitness membership there is a parking structure one block away you can park in, that’s where I go.
I will be back from time to time late at night to satisfy my Asian food cravings.

Amazing service! Loved the vibe of the neighborhood and this restaurant. Came here to celebrate my 4 month anniversary with my boyfriend (long distance = celebrate allll the mini-​versaries you get to spend together.) Ended up loving my boyfriends plate more than my own, but it’s my fault for ordering something I don’t like because the menu photo displayed heart shaped rice. Will be sure to return, especially for the Money Bag appetizer and their Thai Ice Tea.

I’ve been coming here often because it’s one of the few places open late at night besides Mexican food.
They have gotten a lot better with the flavors in their food and service.
I really enjoy coming here to come eat some Thai food with a twist. Definitely try some of their specialties, and their beverages are simply divine.
Also, their portions are huge! They give you a ton of rice, if you want a healthier alternative, just ask for steamed vegetables instead of rice. I am definitely a fan, and will be coming back here often.

If you’re looking for late night food, Jimmy Wong’s is the place to go. So I came here on ⁴⁄₂₀ and for some reason I had the munchies. Lmao! Jk. But I have been here a few times. The Pad Thai is very good. I ordered a 5 spice wise. It wasn’t really that spicy to me but overall very flavorful. I’ve also had the drunken noodles before. Again, also pretty good. My last visit I shared a pot of Tom Yum soup. Omg! I couldn’t get enough of it! I will definitely be back again.
I deducted one star because they no longer have the late night happy hour specials, or at least that’s what they told me.
They’re open until 3am. But you already knew that if you’re looking at the Unilocal reviews. Duh!

I friggin love this restraunt!!! No like I really do. So besides having awesome hours, the food is so bomb. It’s a cute little hidden spot. I usually end up dining here after a night of clubbing in hillcrest. I usually get pad Thai spice level 6 but I’ve noticed this restaurant is a lil spicier than most other Thai food I’ve eaten in which I always get 6 but it’s still a comfortable spice (for me). I love the cheesy wontons appetizer, good for sharing. The drunken noodles have the perfect infusion of spices this dish tends to be a lot spicier I get a 2 or 3 for this one. It’s a great place to come with friends for sure. Staff is kind. Highly recommend it here.

Ending the night Thai food at 2am after pounding down some Fiesta Cantina margaritas and having a few cocktails at Pecs? Sounds like a PERFECT way to end a Sunday Funday (Brownie points cause I was off that Monday LOL)
Anyways, back to the subject at hand, I’d strongly recommend eating here. Beats your average drive thru and taco shop fare!
Came in with bae after leaving Pecs since I wanted us to eat elsewhere besides Colima’s every night, lol. The host was nice, greeted us and we were sat almost immediately.
Unfortunately I was too inebriated to take pictures of our food (Sorry fellow San Diego Unilocalers!) but, I can tell you that I have NOT stopped thinking about our food!
Bae ordered us some garlic edamame as an appetizer to share, normally, I don’t like edamame but holy shit, those edamame were bomb. The garlic flavor was there but it wasn’t super overpowering, it was the right amount of flavor!
As for our entrees, bae ordered the house fried rice with chicken, and as for myself, drunken noodles (with chicken) for the drunken boy, lol. I think I got a ⁶⁄₁₀ on the spice meter.
Bae’s rice was delicious! The flavor was amazing!
My noodles were delicious as well, I should probably go down a level for the spice next time since the chilies and spices were getting to me!
Anyways, I applaud you guys for staying open til 3 AM! if you’re looking for something different to end your crazy drunken night, this is somewhere I’d strongly recommend to go eat!

Had my mind set on getting the Thai Green Curry. Wasn’t disappointed really. But glad I got a mild, because even that was fairly spicy!
We did get the Chicken Wings as our starter, but there wasn’t really any chicken on them! Was basically all bones and no seasoning. Shocking. But that might be how chicken wings are served in Thailand. I’m not too sure!
Not the best atmosphere if you’re sober and looking for somewhere quiet to eat in the evening. Because pretty much everyone in here after dark is piss drunk. Had some drunk guys sat next to us kept starring over and trying to involve us in their drunken ramblings and nonsense.

Much to offer here for the late night loner OR happy couple! I typically enjoy this spot with friends who are visiting or when I can’t make it home on an empty stomach.
Enjoy veggie lo mein for a light yet hearty course! The wonton appetizer is enough for two to share but get more than one order for a party of 4!
Careful on the spice! Level 7 kills!!!

Finally got to try this place out! They’re open until 3AM so what’s not to love?!
I got off of work at 10 and was so happy I could still have Thai food that late at night. I brought my three friends to have dinner and we all really enjoyed ourselves. The ambiance was wonderful. I loved the décor and the service and the food. I couldn’t ask for more.
I ended up trying the veggie pad see eu ($ 8.75) and it was so so good. My friend got a tea drink that was so pretty and so good. Oh we also got the cheesy wontons with a really good sweet and sour sauce. So yum!!!
I’ll definitely be back to try everything & im going to recommend this restaurant to all of my Unilocal friends and anyone looking for Thai food!

I came here on a Sunday night with my husband. We were seated promptly. It was a bit slow that night so that works for us– no wait time. The atmosphere is fun and cozy. We were given menus right away. I ordered Thai spicy shrimp with veggies and white rice. My husband got salmon something with red curry sauce. Exact names of our dishes– I forgot. We waited about 10 – 15 minutes for our food. We really enjoyed our food, very flavorful and cooked perfectly. The server was very nice and accommodating. Prices are reasonable.

Time: 1 am Saturday night
Seated quickly, Place was loud and almost at capacity.
Ordered: Sho Chiku Bai, Thai Me Down TF, Kai Kra Pow (spicy#4) and Yellow Chicken Curry.
Review: Service was ok, it was late and I guess they were trying the best. We waited 10 min between water and someone to take our order. Additional 20 – 25 min to get our food.
I did not like the food at all. Yellow chicken curry was bland tasteless, watery, terrible texture, rice was ok I guess. Not good especially when we were starving on a cold late night. Definite let down. The Thai Me down fresh rolls were anything but fresh, the rice paper was hard and tasted old — why serve this? WHY? Same story with the Kai Kra Pow.
The only good thing (according to my friend — I didn’t drink) was probably the unfiltered saki (Sho Chiku Bai) — No after taste, kind of sweet, look grainy with particulates but was actually smooth.
Verdict: I’ll take my chances with other open late or 24hr places. Plenty to chose from. Not going back here. WHY JIMMY WONG! WHY!!! I came wanting to be wooed with deliciousness and you gave me DISAPPOINTMENT!
Bathroom: Not so clean.

I think I found my new favorite Thai restaurant!
Parking: only cons about this restaurant is the street parking. Not much parking unless you go later on at night.
Restaurant hours: perfect if you’re craving for some food late at night besides your typical burrito or fast food. This place is open until 3am! (I came on a Tuesday night around 11pm)
Restaurant: nice décor and great ambience. Very modern and relaxing. Loved the music they played. Very chillaxx
Food I ordered:
gyoza (pork potstickers)
Druken noodles (BOMB!) (spice level 2)
Papaya salad — Lao style (spice level 3 is perfect)
Tom Kah seafood hot pot ($ 12) (spice level 2)
I thought all the dishes I ordered was all very delicious. The tom kah seafood hot pot was my favorite, it was rich with coconut, mushroom, and seafood. It was perfect for this cold weather. I’ll definitely be back for this dish!
The papaya salad — Lao style was also very delicious. I ordered spice level 2 and it wasn’t even spicy at all. And believe me Im not a huge fan of spicy, I just like a little kick :) next time I’ll order a spice level of

Gyoza — came with 5 pieces. it was perfectly fried. Good. My son loved it!
Drunken noodles — delicious.
Next time I come back, I would like to try their pad Thai & yellow curry. those two are my favorites that I usually get at a Thai restaurant.

I came too late. 9 years late. Jimmy Wong’s Golden Dragon was remodeled in 2006 and renamed Asian Bistro. I was hoping to try some old school Chinese food but now it’s a modern Thai place.
Fried potstickers had a crunchy shell and delicious chicken filling. A bit smaller than Khan’s Cave potstickers but with a similiar flavor.
Won ton soup with duck. I chose the duck broth and it had a delicious duck flavor. Egg noodles had a good flavor whick complimented the duck broth. Won tons were made with shrimp and had an excellent mix of flavor from the thin wrapper and shrimp. This dish goes in my top 5 list of won ton noodle soups in San Diego.
BBQ chicken was tender and had a nice smoky flavor and a little bit of a spicy flavor.
Mango desert had texture like jello and a sweet mango flavor.
I didn’t find what I was looking for but there are some finely crafted dishes here. :-)

We walked into the restaurant to ask a few questions because the signage is a bit confusing. More on signage later. The lady behind the counter informed us; this is a Thai restaurant, not Chinese. Well okay already. It was empty inside so we had our pick of tables. Woo hoo.
Ordered the green tea and Thai barbecue chicken. The chicken came chopped up inside a lettuce leaf and was just spectacular! Moist, flavorful with a bit of crunch. The small side of sliced cabbage with mandarin oranges paired well with the chicken and rice. The chili garlic ginger sauce tasted wonderful, but it was a little too spicy/​hot for me.
The Golden Dragon sign is an historic landmark from a bygone era. Jimmy and Annie Wong opened the Golden Dragon in 1955 using their savings. It stayed open until 2006 when it was sold to the current owner. Jimmy designed the neon dragon on the outside of the building.

Came here on Saturday night and got spicy noodles. Spice level was a 4. Came out and it literally tasted as an 8. They put a ridiculous amount of chili pepper and chili everything everywhere!!! My mouth was burning and not in a good spicy food way. I downed about 5 whole cups of water.

Service is okay. had nothing wrong with any of the servers. They are all there doing their jobs. Pretty much there to work and then leave to go home is what it seems like.
I mean I’ll probably be back due to this is probably one of the places that opens really late after a night of going out downtown.
