Imperial Hardwood Company

Based on the 1 star review, clearly my experience was lacking. I really did did try to give Imperial Hardwood my business. I am all for supporting small business in my local community, but there is a point when if a business can’t provide the service they agreed to in a timely fashion — you should let the customer know.
We spoke a month in advance with Paul the owner and agreed to his great ideas about what to do with my floor. We put down a substantial deposit, more than half the amount for the project, and expected the job to be started in 2 weeks. The job was to take ¾ of a day. The wood was supposed to sit in our house for 3 days. The day the work was originally scheduled, family emergencies for the owner caused the job to be rescheduled for 5 days later, even though he wasn’t not the person completing the work. We were not sure why he needed to be in the city, but we understood. The next week the job was prepped partially done by the installer (a special one — the only one that can do our job supposedly), so we had to call the owner and let him know the square which we agreed on wasn’t cut. The installer came back out and cut the rest of the floor and prepped that part. We then proceeded to go about 5 days with the floor sealed and a tarp up closing off rooms in our house. The next issue was that the installer was then sick and could not finish the job. In the meantime, we have not had any wood sitting at our house to acclimate and very little communication about why this ¾ of a day job was taking so long. At this point we are frustrated because this was supposed to be done before we moved in and the people available to the be there during the day were leaving after staying for 10 days. Finally the work was scheduled to be done on Feb 16. The installer started the work and found the wood color didn’t match the sample. I was informed of the problem and I told him 2 things: if there was darker wood available that could be put in TODAY lets get that or go ahead and put in the slightly redder wood he had. Mind you if the wood they had on-​hand had been checked any time in the last month or if they had ever had any intention of putting it in the original day it was scheduled this problem would have been noticed a long time ago. Since I wanted the whole ordeal to be over I was just going to live with the floor. The flooring insert wasn’t that big and I am not that picky. Instead the installer left and was sent by the owner to do another job while he talked with the manufacturer about why the colors didn’t match. I told the owner the same thing I told the installer to just put it in if they couldn’t find anything else. He said he would, but he had sent the installer to another job. At this point and I really getting upset and it is clear that he doesn’t care about pleasing the customer and just wants to string me along. In the end I had to tell them to give me my money back and I went went Cole’s Fine Flooring (see Leon in the Southbay), which was probably a better choice because they actually had to level the floor a bit something that Imperial Hardwood hadn’t even mentioned. The theory about the poor service is that the installer isn’t that good, the owner doesn’t have enough cash flow so so he is floating jobs, or the job was too intimidating. I think the owner just didn’t care about my business and I wish he just said that in the first place.

This review is based on service and professionalism. The owner of the company was nice and courteous when he first came out to my home. But beyond that I can’t get the guy to respond to emails or phone calls. If you are too busy, if the job is too small, or if you don’t want the job then that is understandable… but pick up the phone or send an email to let the customer know. I will never use this company in the future nor would I recommend them to anyone I know.

This review is based on my experiance with this company over several weeks. I hired this company based on their 30 years of experience with hardwood oak floors. Paul is a very nice guy who comes across as meaning well, but when it comes to results, he falls short. The agreement was to use an oil based product which would result in a honey color floor, but he used a water based product and added color to it which resulted in a floor that was blotchy and uneven. He blamed the switch of products on the contractor, saying he was not given enough time.
They re-​did it 3 times and it is still looks bad. The end result was unprofessional and totally below my standard or anyone else’s looking at my kitchen and den. I will have to have the entire three rooms refinished by a professional who knows what he or she is doing which means all my furniture will have to be stored. I am very disappointed. He says he will do it again and make it right when I am ready to do the rest of the downstairs rooms but after 3 tries I don’t think so.

I can’t say enough great things about this company! I found myself in a situation where the people I originally hired to refinish my hardwood flooring, left me with a big disaster… a botched job to say the least! By that point, I was extremely uneasy about hiring anyone else but had to do my best to find a company that I thought could fix my floors. I interviewed several hardwood floor refinishing companies in San Diego and finally decided to hire Imperial Hardwood. I am now confident that I made the right decision. My floors look great and turned out as I had wanted! The professionalism, the owner Paul and his crew exemplified was very reassuring. I knew from the day they started working that they knew what they were doing. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking to refinish hardwood flooring and or installing and staining new flooring!

This review is based on the level of service Imperial Hardwood provides. First, Paul was an hour late for our scheduled appointment. Once he was there, he as a nice guy and easy to talk with. He promised a bid the following day, which never showed up. I tried contacting him and his office multiple times for the next week. No one ever answers the phone and they do not return messages.
If you’re looking for late, non-​responsive and no follow through on items to be completed, they’re the one.

We were so happy with the quality of work and professional staff that installed our custom handrail and stairway. The addition of an extra handrail worked well for our elderly parents.

Imperial Hardwood Company did a fantastic job refinishing our 80+ year old wood floors. We will not hesitate to call them again for any of our hardwood flooring needs — old or new.

I had the chance to work with Imperial Hardwood Co. on my flooring project. I needed my hardwood floors finished, and the floors came out beautifully. We had a moisture cured finish applied to our floors. And they lasted for years. The quality of the work done, was impressive. I world definitely recommend Imperial Hardwood Company, to any of my friends.
