History

Established in 2003.

I’ve had my own Marriage and Family Therapy practice in San Diego, CA. since 2003. Since then, I’ve become a Master NLP Practitioner, Certified Hypnotherapist, Dharma Life Coach, Sports psychology Consultant, and Group Therapist in my sincere endeavor to offer my clients meaningful and transformative support, guidance, and counsel. As time has gone by, I’ve facilitated Men’s groups, Women’s groups, a Peer Facilitation Support group on behalf of other therapists and life coaches looking to become even better facilitators in their work with their clients, and I’ve worked with businesses and high school, collegiate, and professional sports teams as well. I continue to learn more about my craft each and every day, and I continue to love the work that I do in partnership with my clients very much!

Hello, my name is John Boesky, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Master NLP Practitioner, Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Dharma Life Coach, and Sports Psychology Consultant who has had a private practice in San Diego, CA for over 12 years.

John Boesky has been an instrumental component of my successful journey through a very dark time in my life. Without going through the personal details, I can attest to John’s compassionate and intuitive approach to mental wellness. My journey has been a long one, and all along the way I knew John was in my corner. Having that knowledge, quite honestly, is the reason I am here today to write this review. John makes a genuine connection and creates a safe environment, which allows him to peel back the layers; this leads to a rediscovering of one’s authentic self. He has a vast arsenal of techniques in which he can draw from to keep making progress and to address the complexities of getting to the root causes of depression. In the likelihood that you are reading his reviews because you are looking for help in your own life, I highly recommend contacting John.

Wow, suprised to see good reviews for this guy. I saw him once last week with my daugher. She was a gymnast with a mental block. He forgot to take my payment info. I called him back with it, and gave the FSA card number and he either got the number wrong or didn’t bill it as healtcare, so instead of just asking, he threatened me with collections if i didn’t call him back… mind you, after leaving one message in the morning which i got at 1pm. Really? Further, he did NOTHING for my daughter with a mental block except recommend drugs for her to take before practice. Oh wait, she flies around flipping on crazy high equipment and she is going to do this groggy, on meds? Felony stupid. Lastly, despite the fact he knew we were coming and exactly why, he hadn’t researched the sport at all and we basically spent an hour explaining it to him. Mind you, my child wouldn’t say a word to him and he couldn’t bring her out at all. Great skill for a psycholgoist. All this for the pleasure of 150.00 bucks… what a WASTE OF TIME.

I cannot express enough gratitude for the compassion, support and faith John has had in me and helped provide me with over the last 7 months since I began meeting with him. John has literally helped me turn my life a completed 180 (starting from the inside out) and I will be forever indebted to him. John’s enthusiasm, listening skills, and knowledge far surpasses any of the experiences I have had while being in ‘therapy’, and I value every moment I have with him. There are many ‘attributes’ that I love about John… I could literally go on and on… but what I love the most is how non-​judgmental he has proven to be. I’ve encountered therapists who have tried to blame my ‘issues’ on this or that, but John never has. He has taken the time to really get to know me and has helped me realize my worth. Slowly but surely, John has guided me in bringing back my individuality… and as he would say my ‘free will’. John is engaging, asks probing questions and honestly cares about his clients. I feel so safe with him and can’t say enough amazing things about John. I HIGHLY recommend giving him a shot (if you’re on the fence)…believe me, it will probably be the best decision you will ever make for yourself.

I copied this from an email I sent John: (I wish to thank you for your goodwill, heart, dedication, intelligence, insight, intuition, advise, professionalism, warmth, care, service, and the endless charity that you have provided my family and I, even tolerance of my character-​I like the support and comfort of your couch too.) as for this review: I raised my self in the streets of L.A. in the 80s, but I never cared for gangs, criminals, and my Godfather was L.A.P.D, yet police would pull me over for being out late often and just release me when they realized I wasn’t what they thought, and I went on to have a successful career in law and and healthcare, I rarely mention my first career in law enforcement in the civilian world. In my view, the gangs won in L.A. and I retired in San Diego where I love to serve the military sick and ret patient whom served. I wrote about my history, so you would know how well rounded John is and how easily and expertly he can deal with all walks of life and any issues you may have, from Divorce to Drinking, troubled relationships or dreams, death to life, GO SEE HIM, HE CAN MAKE YOUR LIFE 1000% BETTER! even if you just need wise counsel or a great friend with awesome advise and experience, John is that for You and I

I was recommended to John Boesky’s Men’s support group as an opportunity for me to share and interact with other men. I’ve been attending the Men’s Group for the last 3 years and the group has given me so much. I’m so grateful for the men in the group and for John’s support. Through his facilitation, we challenge and support each other and I’ve made some friends for life.

I first met with John in the summer of 2007. I was having all kinds of anger issues, but of course it’s never just anger. That’s what people see on the outside, particularly when you tell your boss to go «fornicate» himself, which is what I did. I felt myself spinning out of control emotionally. A lot of anxiety. Angst. So many feelings I could not understand. When I first spoke with John on the phone I was struck by his immediate understanding and his being non-​judgemental toward me. Just before that I had met with someone bearing a Phd, who referred to my anger as «silly». Didn’t work.
I’m giving this high rating to John because he is a fabulous listener. He is also great at reframing your words to help you get a clearer picture of things, indicating thought distortions without hammering you for them. Also, while I’m thinking of it, I never saw dollar signs in John’s eyes when I met with him. I had to pay the «silly» Phd (post hole digger) for the consult – oh, wow, thank you very much.
I feel that I have advanced greatly in many areas of mental health, thanks to John. But don’t get me wrong: Real change, real growth, development, learning to listen, to be sensitive – takes a lot of work. You have to bust your ass! And you have to get up and keep going after you fall on your ass. Again and again. Someone like John is perfect to help you do that, but to really grow and differeniate takes a lot of initiative. John is a solid model for those things.
Oh, yea, he has a sense of humor – something I’ve found lacking in other therapists, who seemed to suffer from having some object up their…
John doesn’t have that. He’s real. He’s sincere. He’s down to earth. He’s flexible when it comes to fees – unlike those others who can charge you a $ 120 for one session– with a straight face! (which, I suppose, might account for their having no sense of humor).
I don’t think I could recommend John enough if you’re looking for a therapist.

I’ve been working with John for about three years now. I even left San Diego two years ago and have continued phone sessions with him because I feel so strongly that he has helped learn about myself and make great strides in personal growth. Choosing a therapist that is a good match for you can be a challenging process; I’ve met with others in the past that didn’t quite get it like John does. John has a keen sense for understanding the underlying issues at hand and gently guiding me to new perspectives that help me, my career and my relationships. I never feel judged or over-​analyzed by John. He has given me «homework» or things to practice to change habits in thinking, which is great for me since I’m a «do-​er.» He has helped me to honor my feelings, my personal truth and overall helped me to become a better, happier, healthier, more self-​aware person!

Finding the right Therapist is probably just as hard as getting over an issue. I was lucky enough to strike gold on my first try with John. I have been seeing John for over 5 years and I couldn’t be happier. He is honest, knowledgeable, compassionate, and a great listener. He has talked me through some rough times and even just times when i need to talk to someone outside of my circle. He has integrity and makes you believe in yourself and ultimately learn to deal with issues yourself. If you are looking for someone to talk to give John a try you wont be dissapointed.

Choosing a therapist or counselor is obviously a very personal choice and there has to be a certain degree of chemistry for the relationship to work. But even if you click with a therapist, you won’t get much out of them unless they are also good at what they do. John Boesky is very good at what he does. I have worked with him in the context of individual counseling and a bi-​weekly men’s group for over 3 years and he has been instrumental in my personal growth and helping me weather the travails of a difficult divorce.
