Pro Gear Differentials

Nick saved me $$ by providing excellent advice for re-​gearing the diffs on my 04 wrangler LJ. The work was finished a day early and he provided good communications during the process. I had the opportunity to speak with the tech who performed the work and he gave details of a job that went as planned. I do most of the work on my Jeep and I was reluctant to take it to a shop but based on the tools and level of expertise required to perform this maintenance I decided that I had to take it to an expert shop. This is the first time I took my jeep to a mechanic and I would recommend this shop to friends and family. Thanks Pro Gear for the outstanding work.

Great work and good guys at pro gear. The Ford Dealership actually recommended them for my 97 Ford F-​150 as it needed the rear dif regeared from a 3:55 to a 4:10 after putting larger wheels on it. Although not their fault, waited for the delivery of parts to arrive, they were ready to install the new diff and spent a lot of meticulous time to get this gear set perfect as the shims have to be right, immediately when the gears arrived. After doing the 500 mile break in period, I couldn’t be happier with their work. I’m coming back for any gear work needed in San Diego area. Trust these guys with this kind of work. Nick and Charles at pro gear did an amazing job with my 2003 Yukon Denali. my vehicle needed a new CV boot on the driver side which they replaced for a very reasonable price. Nick also work with me to purchase a few parts at a lower cost and made sure that I was kept in the loop throughout the process. I highly recommend this shop for an honest and high-​quality job. I’ve since had great success with continuing to drive and enjoy my vehicle and will without a doubt go back to them if I need anything else done.

My dad has had work done here a few times as have I. There work is always good and they stand by what they do. They are very easy to work with and talk to on the phone. They recently built a Ford Mustang 8.8 for my cobra and it came out great. Unrelated to their work there was a brake bracket mount that was bent and cause brake install issues. They quickly stood by their work and offered to fix it for free if I provided the part. Great customer service!

Top notch place. Have had my jeep here several times for gears and suspension issues. The guys in the back really know what they are doing. They just installed a locker in my jeep and the work is very professional. When it comes to gears, do not waste your time with 4 wheel parts or any of the other places. Because I went to 4 wheel parts is why my gears needed to be rebuilt by Pro Gear. Get it right the first time and take your vehicle here…

I have been using Pro Gear for years on my commercial fleet of 35 vehicles and 12 personal vehicles and have come to depend on them for straight forward and honest service.
These guys are the best, in fact, what you as a consumer might not know is «other» so called specialty shops send them work and use them to diagnose the harder and more difficult problems.

Took my chevy to these guys based on a recommendation. Problem was a bad wheel bearing. Asked for and received «worst case scenario» repair estimate.
After the car was on the rack and rear end torn down, the estimate vastly exceeded the «worst case scenario» Sensing a lack of ethics on behalf of Pro-​Gear. I asked for my car back. They then charged me to reassemble my car and return it to me despite the fact that they pooched the estimate on repair. NO THANKS!

I would recommend Pro Gear to anyone needing differential service because they are quick, honest, and reasonably priced. I do not give out 5 Stars often, but Pro Gear earned ‘em.
Pro Gear repaired the final drive on my E46 BMW. They removed it, diagnosed it, ordered and received parts, and installed it in less than a day. And at a hourly rate that is about 30% less than what the Dealer charges. While they seem to work on alot of desert 4x4s, they are comfortable with sports cars too.
Pro Gear was straight with me at all times. Kraig the owner scheduled me for the day after I called, recorded the symptoms, and quickly wrote me up for a $ 0 estimate. He called me back with an estimate and kept to it. They charged me for 2 hours plus parts. Some shops leave you wondering if you got ripped off or not. I always felt that Pro Gear was honest with me every step of the way.
Pro Gear is a specialty shop; they just do differentials. These jobs require special tools, knowledge and experience to do it right. If you hear strange squeals or clunks from your rear end, or you find oil leaking from it, take it to them. Pro Gear will inspect your diff and give you a free estimate; it the problem isn’t your rear end, they’ll tell you and won’t charge you. You can take it to Tony down the street, but he’ll end up taking it to Pro Gear if the problem is your diff and charge you for the time.

First of all, I would like to say that so many times people only take the time to write poor reviews but never give credit to great service! FYI, pro gear is under new management since last fall when Kraig and Andrea bought Pro Gear. From day one, Kraig was helpful and knowledgeable when helping regear my landcruiser. When I dropped my truck off, they arranged for me to get transportation to my house. (I went on my day off during the week) When we hit a snag in the road, (supplier could not get the ring and pinion to Kraig in time previously promised) Kraig offered to bring my car back to me. We worked together to find a solution and the following week Kraig arranged to get the work done while I was out of town. Not only that, but he was very flexible in arranging for me to pick up the truck when the work was finished. I am very happy with the outcome and they will have a loyal customer for life! Do not hesitate to call pro gear for any of your gearing needs!

I brought my 4×4 GMC 1500 here because my 4×4 would not engage and I got stuck in the dirt was referred here in the past by Zwhizz. They will look at you truck free! They made the repairs before noon the next day. I was very pleased with the work they did and the customer service was outstanding as well! It was a pleasure doing business with Pro gear!

These guys are awesome! I’ve had multiple differentials built here from factory diffs to custom limited slips for our BMW’s. They are always quick and thorough with their communication. Its hard to find a shop that cares not only about the quality of their work but also have excellent customer service. Mark and the team have always made sure our differentials will last a lifetime and we can drive our cars as hard as we like without hesitation.

Great place! Took my truck in for some front axle work, both Mark and Charles were super friendly. The work was done quickly, and for a price I’m happy with.
It’s one of those things where I don’t want anything to go wrong with the truck, but can’t wait to have a reason to go back. Stoked!

Might do good work, but Mark volunteered bogus information over the phone. I wanted to install a Detroit-​Eaon Trutrac limited slip differential on my T100. The Internet reviews and videos are universally positive on Trutrac:
The only negative is that if one wheel is in the air, it won’t get traction until you hit the brakes. Otherwise EVERYONE loves it.
Mark told me that Trutrac would not work for my application (going up a steep dirt driveway), because it would spin, and that it WAS NOT in fact a limited slip differential but instead a torque-​sensing differential, same as a Gleason Torsen only good for street racing. When I pointed to the Utube videos and reviews and Eaton info that contradicted this, Mark hung up on me.
Mark is equating the Torsen to the Trutrac, but thy are slightly different. Typical Trutrac review: I run a truetrac in my 04 4×4, it’s an awesome unit, just grabs and goes, great street manners. The slipping wheel doesn’t even make a full revolution before it gets in. I had the no-​slip for a week, couldn’t stand the harshness and noise. When I tried to power in and out of turns, it would bark the tires and jerk. I like thr truetrac much better.
SD Gear installed it in 1 hr and it works perfectly.

I’d been to two mechanics and already had overpaid for a simple diagnosis before trying ProGear. I have a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo with 200k miles on it but is in really good condition. Anyway, it began making a whirring noise from the rear that got louder over a week or two. I took it to my usual mechanic who, at first, claimed he couldn’t hear the noise (impossible!) then charged me almost $ 300 for an inspection and «diagnosis» that I ought to just junk it and buy something newer. They rear differential had normal wear and there was nothing they could do.
I checked out
as a last resort and found a good reference to ProGear. I made the 60 mile drive to give Big Red one last chance for resurrection. Mark (the owner) took me for a test drive in the vehicle and new in less than a block that it truly WAS the rear differential and he’d inspect it for free. He warned me it might be an expensive repair but he’d let me know for sure.
Mark called the SAME day to let me know the good and the bad: the rear bearings were fried but the rest of the components were fine; cost to repair was going to be $ 800. I took a shot and had them make the repair. It was ready THE NEXT DAY! Sure, I hated to part with $ 800 to repair such and old vehicle but, man, it was worth it to keep avoiding car payments! My Isuzu runs better, now, than it probably has in YEARS. THANKS PROGEAR!!!

I was doing my own differential work but needed a few parts and some pieces worked on that I couldn’t do my self. Brought them in and they helped me out quickly. Really nice guys and even taught me a few things while I was there. Great service and help.

I have never had a better experience at a Mechanics shop. Period.
I was directed to Pro Gear because I first went to the Pit Stop (which I Unilocaled to make sure it had decent reviews. It did.) The boys at the Pit Stop put my 4runner up on the lift, tapped and clinked around the driveshaft and differential to find out what was making my baby hum, and determined that it was something in the differential. Rear ends were not their expertise, so John sent me over to Pro Gear to get a «High-​end» estimate on a rebuild.
Upon arriving to Pro Gear, Mark was quick to greet me and see what the problem is. He then jumped into the car, found out what I was complaining about, and brought it back to put up on the lift. While the mechanic started to examine everything, I sat down in the front and gave Mark my info. He is SUPER personable. Sit down and talk to him for a few seconds. The man has an infinite amount of stories. Also, he’s a former professor at some colleges in Washington. I’m not sure how many auto mechanics are former professors, but I’ve never run into one.
To top everything off, Nick (mechanic) found that it was just a U-​Joint, and they swapped it out for a hundred bucks out the door (was quoted 200+ at other mechanics).

I can’t say enough good things about Mark and Pro Gear!!!
I initially stopped in a few weeks ago after walking by the shop waiting for an oil change to get finished down the road. Mark was super personable and friendly — we talked about cars and what not until I had to get going. He invited me back anytime with more information/​parts we had spoken about putting on my car.
Finally today I had time to stop by and have these guys install a new diff bushing for me on my ctsv. They squeezed me right in and put it on the lift. The whole crew here is great! Just watching Mark interact with people who came in and out of his shop — I realized he’s not the typical grouchy guy behind the counter — quite the opposite actually!
Anyways, I cant wait for my differential to take a dump so I can come back! (well not really, but you get the idea)
Bottomline: I would recommend this place all day long! Great customer service, and very fair pricing. Kudos Mark and Pro Gear!

This is the second time I have come here to get one of my vehicle’s worked on. Both times I was treated great and I saved money. They were very honest about the work and were more than fair on how much they charged me. They could have totally taken advantage of my situation, but quite the contrary they were very nice, honest, and fair. I just wish more shop’s were this good, customer service wise.
