Updating my review of 2 years ago. Still going to Tamara for my color and a trim. Have an appointment before the upcoming holidays. I’m a super curly girl. She does a great job with strawberry blond & red highlights, and uses Schwartzkopf hair color products, which seem to last longer than others. Don’t trust negative reviews from people who have never been to the salon, nor have ever met, let alone had their hair done, by Tamara. Notice they do not have any other reviews of places or services. They are not happy people.

Jeanette just recently moved to Tasha’s Studio in Mission Hills but I’ve know her for several years at another salon in Hillcrest. She recently gave me a hair condition treatment and a good cut — which boy I needed it. My hair feels awwwwwesome after her giving me some good TLC on Friday. If you’re looking for a good quality cut at an affordable price — she’s your gal.

A couple weeks ago Tamara gave me the first real hairstyling haircut I’ve ever gotten. I have giant curls and usually just had my sister trim the bottom because I never thought I could have it styled without making it giant. After finding Tamara and her good curly reviews on , I thought I’d give it a shot and it came out fantastic! Best money I ever spent, and that means a lot coming from a super broke grad student! Thanks Tamara!

I have been loyally following Tamara for 11 years now. I found her because I desperately needed someone knowledgeable with working with curls once I moved to San Diego. What I found was that she is not only adept at curls, she is masterful at designing cuts to complement your stature and face, and is queen of coloring. I receive so many compliments on my curls, cut, and color — I trust her completely. I have come to trust in her ability so much so, that even when sometimes I might initially feel like she didn’t give me the right cut, I find that within a week I realize it is the best cut I have ever had! Tamara is extremely down to earth and reasonable with her approach to hair and her prices, there is nothing snooty about her or Tasha’s.

I had been going to Tamara for about 6 years, and recently stopped. She does a fantastic job on curly hair(please ignore my photo — that is NOT a Tamara hair-style!). I always loved the cuts, and her coloring is right and lasts a decent amount of time(certainly a lot longer than when I color my hair myself). She spends a VERY long time on each client, so be prepared to pay a little more because of the time she puts in. The time she puts in, though, is about her perfectionism, and she’ll be the first to tell you that. But what it means is that I would spend sometimes 2 hours in her chair for a cut and color. Too much time for me. I finally started breaking out my cut and color into separate appointments so that I could get out of there in less time — I just don’t have that much time or patience to spend in a salon chair! Tamara has set some pretty strong boundaries around what she’ll do and when she’ll work, though, and so to be her client you need to be willing to adapt to her business style. I needed a hairstylist for my wedding, and she wasn’t willing to work in the morning when I needed her to(even with the expectation that I would have to go to her). Plus, she made it pretty clear she was not a fan of doing«wedding hair.» She’s not the only hairstylist like that, I learned — I ended up having to go on a 3-month journey to find someone who would style curly hair for a wedding. This is not to say she wasn’t polite about it. I could tell she didn’t want to say no, but I could also tell she was VERY relieved when I told her I’d find someone else. But afterward I thought about it, and here’s the thing — she’d been my hairstylist, and me her loyal customer, for 6 years. I wasn’t asking for an updo or anything outrageous. And I was going to come to her. So when I found a stylist who would do my «wedding hair» — and had to spend the time and money to test them out on cut, color, style and just generally whether I liked them or not — I decided after all that effort to just switch to them permanently. Maybe to reward them for their willingness to help me when I really needed it?
