At first when Josef came to my house, Charlie my German Shepherd jumped on him, and really scared him, i’m so glad he stayed and proceeded with our estimate, since he gave me the best price. Smart Remodeling and design worked with our vision on a major kitchen and dining room remodel. They were very responsive to our needs and committed to the quality of work we were looking for. Josef the project manager as well as Miguel the foreman and his workers were very professional and knowledgeable from start to finish of our dream kitchen. Josef coordinated everything; from design to obtaining permits all the way through to final touches (we kept changing little things), we highly recommend them if you’re looking for a honest kitchen contractor.

Sam the project Manager for Smart remodeling and Design was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He explained the whole process for our foundation repair. The concrete contractor was on time almost every day and they finished our project just about when they said they would. I was very happy with the job they did and would definitely recommend them to anyone. excellent service and great value for money.

I recently bought a house that had been on the market for a year. The house — though a a great deal — was in very bad shape from the foundation to the roof and needed lots of work. A friend completed a new kitchen and bath with Smart Remodeling and I loved the result so I figured I’d give them a call.
I must say, from start to finish my project was a breeze. Sam, our project manager was EXTREMELY communicative and always available. To be honest I’d relieved many estimates and some were cheaper — not by much — but Smart Remodeling had made a strong impression and from the very beginning of the process in the back of my mind I knew that Smart Remodeling was the company that I wanted to work with. Even better i didn’t have to deal with city permits at all, they took care of everything!!!
Sam, was on the job site managing the crew on almost a daily basis and whenever he wasn’t there, I got updates by whichever mode of communication I chose which for me was by phone and sometimes text do to my strenuous work schedule! I had them do all my flooring on he property, paint and texture the entire place in and out, remodel the kitchen (which I must say is simply stunning) 2.5 bathrooms and minute detailing throughout the property. Oscar, the foreman, was attentive, very pleasant and was really clean. I felt more than comfortable leaving them alone in my home.
I absolutely love the end result and would recommend Smart Remodeling to my friends and family!!!

I recently hired Smart remodeling and design to renovate out kitchen, it was old and outdated, it needed so much work, from the floors to the ceiling including some major changes to the plumbing that was probably million years old.
Josef was amazing, I really can’t thank him enough. The work was done in a timely manner and to my 100% satisfaction. I highly recommend them for all your design and construction needs.

This contractor remodeled my 96 year old fathers bathroom for a handicapped shower. We provided the general plan. A promised 2 week job turned into a 5 week painful ordeal. They made so many screw ups and redos took them the extra time. They workmanship was anything but professional. It appeared they got their «skilled» workers from the Home Depot parking lot. Their «plummer» took all day to complete a 2 hour job, because he could not solder the pipes so they wouldn’t leak. They did not follow plans so redos. they put the pony wall on the wrong side of shower, redo. They did not tile pony wall as shown on plans, redo, then they just added the other tile, looks like hell. They were supposed to put in a alcove in shower for soap and shampoo, redo. Slapped it in and called it good. They didn’t even calk around new toilet or baseboards, had to come back out and finish the job. The contractor showed up only a couple of times and relied on his works to do the job. Big mistake, isn’t to concerned on quality of work of his guys.
I would have given a lower rating if I could.
I seriously recommend you avoid this contractor.

Wow, so happy a friend recommended Smart Remodeling and Design!!. They did an outstanding job with my kitchen! I needed more room and didn’t have a lot of time. They came up with a plan and it turned out perfect! I couldn’t ask for anything better. I highly recommend Smart, as they are not only efficient but very friendly as well. Our 91-​year-​old Oakland home has gone through several owners, renovations, and earthquakes over the years since it was built in 1924. The smallest and ugliest room in the house was the bathroom. Only 73/​4′ x 6′, it was last updated in the 1950s or 1960s. We’ve owned the house since 1987 and over the years have had several contractors look at it with a remodel in mind; none of them wanted the job. We hired a designer who met with us for an hour and a half, charged us $ 150, but would not supply plans for less than an additional $ 2,000 and wanted a minimum of $ 60,000 for the work.
Back in late September I got a telemarketing call from Smart Remodeling & Design and was shocked at their continued interest after I told them the age of the house and how small the bathroom was. Three days later, Yosef Tatik rang our doorbell, took one look at our bathroom, and said, «I’ve done smaller bathrooms than this,» and showed us photos on his smartphone. They were gorgeous!
The company insists on doing their projects with City permits which they acquire on our behalf, I checked their contractor’s license with Sacramento online, Yosef promised to go shopping with us to pick out tile, cabinets, etc., the job would be completed in two-​to-​three weeks in time for Thanksgiving company, and all for $ 20,000 + permits & materials (estimated at $ 4,000). With a self-​imposed budget of $ 20,000 to $ 30,000, it was right on target.
The old bathroom was stripped down completely to the studs: walls, ceiling, & floor, exposing warped studs and revealing floor beams that were an inch lower on one side of the bathroom from the other. Job foreman Victor leveled the floor and straightened the studs before putting in the new walls. We made a few changes along the way… such as additional tile on the wrap-​around walls and the project was adjusted accordingly without complaint. The job was completed on the day before Thanksgiving.
As project manager, Yosef ran out to get needed supplies and as job foreman, Victor & his crew ensured that drop-​cloths were laid down every morning throughout the areas of the house they needed to traverse to work in the bathroom. Attention to the smallest details were Victor’s specialty and we couldn’t be more pleased with the final result.
Overall: on time, on budget, and spectacular results!

I hired Smart Remodeling and Design to remodel my kitchen and one small bathroom. They did a great job from start to finish. Tom gave us an estimate that seemed pretty fair. He is a funny guy and we had a pleasant experience dealing with him and his crew. I wanted special granite and cabinets and Tom was very helpful with helping me finding exactly what I wanted and making it work for my kitchen.
When I had something that I was concerned about or nervous about (and seriously who doesn’t when it comes to remodeling…) they would answer all my questions at any time! Overall the job was done nicely, turned out just like I pictured it and the crew was very friendly. I would recommend this company to my family and friends!

Tom was here to give us an estimate. At fist I hesitated due to the fact they called and offered a free estimate. But he was here for about 2 hours and it went by very fast. He is a funny guy and he took the time to look at my kitchen and help me figure out what granite will work best with the nature of my kitchen.
They finished the job around the time they promised and I was very happy with the results. I will recommend smart remodeling and design to my family and friends. They gave me a fair price with a great performance of work.

I recently hired smart remodeling and Dor for engineering and extensive work in my house on north Oakland.
I had pleasant experience with them, Dor was very resourceful and even though I had a financial difficulties to continue the work, they were very helpful, cooperative and fair, and I would defiantly use their service in the future.

This company telemarkets to me in violation of the Federal Do Not Call List. When I wanted to be removed and asked for information on their business, they just hang up. No one returns calls to get this information. Any company that violates federal laws and hangs up on consumers trying to protect their rights is not reputable and does not deserve business from ethical consumers in my opinion.

Our home is it’s original 1954 building and we are ready to change it up. I got a call for a free estimate for our bathroom remodel and forgot all about it until the reminder call came in. Josef came on a Friday and his persistence paid off for both of us. Josef took us shopping on the following Sunday and helped us make some difficult decisions. We are not stylists or decorators of any sort. The tile, vanity and sink were purchased easily and at a great price but we had to find a shower glass door company to custom order the glass door. Efren and Hugo are excellent workers and their tile work is FANTASTIC! Efren recommended an installer for the shower doors who worked out well. The doors highlight their artistry in the tile and I couldn’t be happier. My husband and I chose a color that is normally out of our comfort zone but the guys all said it would be ok. We chose a red and was in SHOCK when we first saw the color on the walls. After all the equipment was in (toilet, sink, etc.) the color really pops and it has grown on us happily. I have to say I was very apprehensive at first because I Unilocaled the company and didn’t find any results. I looked up their license and insurance and even googled their names and was happy to find everything in order. We were very nervous but we are now very glad we went through with SMART REMODELING & DESIGN. I will be getting a new kitchen next… yahoo!

This is my 3^rd job with Smart in the past 10 years. I first heard of them for a friend and got my master bathroom done. I was amazed by the quality of work, and more than that, their service. When the house needed leveling in 2006 they still remembered me and gave me an amazing price as a returning customer.
Half a year ago, when we first decided to redo the kitchen I gave tom a call. Even though he is so busy with many projects he did not rush me and offered many different options. We spent almost a full day together trying to figure out the best most affordable way to do the kitchen. The job needed engineer planning and city approval. By the time the city approved them it was only 6 weeks away from a 2 month relocation to Spain, we preferred the work done while we were gone since my husband is allergic to dust. Tom was super easy to work with over the phone long distance, and would always pick up or call me right back. I would have never done a job like this without being there if I wasn’t 1000% certain I wouldn’t have any problems with Tom or his work. Tom met me at my house when we returned to ‘unveil’ the remolding to us. I loved that!!!

Needed my bathroom redone. I bought the house 4 years ago, but the bathroom was the same since the house was built in 1962. It was disgusting and I kept pushing it off do to money. Lucky they called me and offered me a free estimate, had nothing to lose and really had no idea how much it would be, was kinda afraid to find out. Someone gave me a call prior to my appointment letting me know that Tom was on his way. He got here on time and was super professional. Helped me understand the scope of work and was patient. It wasn’t as much as I feared it would be and he understood my situation and really helped meet my needs. Job started quickly and ended sooner than I thought. During the work had a few questions and Tom was either available or called me right back. Hope to do the kitchen next (in about a year) and will be calling Tom!

I was reluctant at first, but glad I went ahead and scheduled an estimate visit. I got a great deal for the remodel of my kitchen and backyard patio! The project is coming along great, I’m loving the process, and can’t wait to see the end result! Please give these guys a shot, you won’t be sorry
