Went back here recently to relive some of my college days and I am happy to say I still appreciate this place for what it is a cheap and convenient place for college students to eat, drink or recover from the previous nights shenanigans. Only thing that could be better about this place would be the option to choose different cheeses on their omelettes, I’m not much of an American cheese guy but its all good. If you are an SJSU student go here and continue to go here.

Never got to order. Way to close to the college campus. No seating. Hotter then the law should allow. Plus we had taken the VTA down town and the walk was hard.

Mr. Peanuts is still around! So happy to see this diner thriving. This was the place I go to for breakfast, lunch and happy hour while going to state. The food was and still is affordable and to be honest, it’s great! I am hoping to go back to enjoy my favorite beef teriyaki with rice and fries. I never really know the owner’s name but I’ve always called him Mr. Peanuts, he’s always friendly and very welcoming. Peanuts is and will always be SJSU’s iconic diner. He’s fed hungry students and non-students around the area.

This place is a solid 3 stars, with a strong emphasis on nostalgia keeping the rating high. It’s average for a now average price(they’ve gone up) and a decent atmosphere. Convenience is key here; if you have to go out of your way to get here, eh… I’m sure a lot of my friends would probably disagree, and since they’ve been going here for like 3+ years, the workers probably treat them nicely. I’d just hate to be fooled if I was driving around looking for some good eats, and had to compare this place to a REAL4 star eatery.

I’ve heard lots of good things about peanuts from other students and even teachers, so I decided to come here for a break between my finals. Pros– cheap good, convenient location to SJSU, beer on tap Cons– food was under seasoned and just okay :/ The lady who took my order wasn’t very pleasant, I asked if I could get my bacon extra crispy, she nodded yes, but it came out just like everyone else’s(floppy). Hashbrowns were under seasoned and not crispy either(guess they don’t get the brown in hashbrown). Come here if you want a quick cheap meal but keep expectations low

Or really 0 stars because we didnt even get a chance to eat the food without payment issues. The lady was not only sick on the job but was absolutely rude in handling the money situation saying it was a problem with our chip reader when it was just used. Saying we were doing things wrong when we were following instructions. When the other guy intervened he was also impolite towards us about the system… horrible customer service… they kept moving other customers past us as well making us seem like we were the ones causing the issue. Then not only was there no compensation yet she wanted to hold me up for longer to cancel our order. I cursed and left. Never again. Like wow. That was just really bad.

The food’s good. Just about everything’s good. I love the fries here. Beer’s cheap! The customer service… what customer service? The worst part? The tiny, dirty bathroom that someone like me can barely fit in! No ADA compliance here, man… Oh, and cash only? Something fishy there…

No customer service at all !!! Lazy and slow cook also good at being rude to customers. Expect to wait half an hour at busy time or waiting for 5+ mins in front of the counter until someone ask your order.

Peanuts has horrible customer service. I didn’t have 1 bad experience but 2! The first time I came here I ordered a basic sandwich. A few moments after, a group of sjsu boys who appeared to be familiar with the owner was happily greeted by him(not that I cared or anything but all customers should be greeted upon entrance not just the ones you know) The worst part was most of them got their orders before me! Today, I experienced another unpleasant visit. I ordered something and forgot to tell the lady who took my order that I wanted it to go. I decided to pay first and handle it after. The owner didn’t even acknowledge I was standing there waiting to pay as he was watching tv and putting a slit on his coffee cup! Then he just took my ticket and debit card to pay! Whatever, so I asked the lady(she seemed like an older lady who didn’t speak much English) that took my order if I can have my food to go even though she didn’t even ask if I wanted it for here or to go in the first place, I just wanted to make sure. She ignored me and called out for another order. I waited until she was done, I said ‘excuse me, can I-’ then she interrupts and yells at me saying my order hasn’t come yet and to wait. She then turned her back from me. The cook behind her was nicer about it and told me that they can have my order to go. I was still so surprised that lady said that to me, horrible service. Other than that, the food was decent.

Service is so bad. There’s no interactions between the workers and the customers except when you order and pay. Other than that, you have to venture to find your own drinks and utensils. First timers may be a bit confused. I used to come here pretty often and the quality of the food has gone down. I ordered my usual polish sausage and sunny side up eggs and the food came out COLD. The hash browns were cold, toast was not toast, and the polish sausage was cold. Must have been sitting on their counter for a while because immediately after they called my number, I grabbed my food and dived in. Other than that, the food is affordable and you pay for the quantity, definitely not the quality. Food comes out fairly fast also. After you’re done eating, be sure to put your empty dishes in the dirty dishes baskets by the door … lol.

Instead of working out at the hotel, after reading the great reviews, I chose to walk the one mile to eat breakfast here. I ordered sausage & eggs over hard, the woman taking my order, said«medium» of which I agreed to. The owner asked if I wanted water. I told him coffee. He asked if I wanted it to go. He game me a mug & told me the coffee in the pot I picked up was«strong». I paid & sat down. The food came quickly. With the eggs came 3 sausage links, two pieces of toast, and home fries. The eggs were not done medium, they were over light. The owner was very nice, it was fun sitting there watching students and other customers come in to eat. One student next to me picked up a burrito from the counter, though I didn’t see it on the menu. The majority of customers are repeats as they had in depth convos with the owner. This is such a gem of a find. I’d definitely return.

I been to this place twice. First time I got the Turkey and Avocado sandwich which was good and the second time I had the veggi omelette which comes with buttered whole wheat toast and delicious crunchy hash browns, very good. I like this place. It has decent food.

The service was super rude. Came in with 2 other people and they took their order then didn’t take mine. Then once they finish cooking they looked at me and ask what do i want and to hurry up. Ordered the chops and eggs which was good for the most part except the chop itself. Cheap though so this is a quick stop place for sure.

I get it, I get it… it’s cheap and convenient. Maintaining healthy eating habits in college can be harder than trying to understand quantum physics. While I was a student at SJSU I worked full time from 7am to 3:00pm. I had a class from 4 – 6, and another class from 6 – 9. Then I’d go home, write lesson plans, study, or do research for a paper. Summer was worse, I remember having classes for freakin’ 12 hours. I developed a disgusting eating habit… College cafeterias, cup-o-noodles every night without fail, followed by late night snackathons. How did I not know about this place??? Am I that oblivious? Or was college that strenuous and hectic that I didn’t see this café right across the street from the campus? I wish this place slapped me in the face and said, «Hey, I’m here. Check me out! Give me some attention!» It might have been a great place to eat and hang out back in the days. Well, a decade later, I was finally aware of its existence. The café screamed old and dirty but that didn’t bother me. The spoons and fork were suspect… were they really washed? Oh well, I still used them, trying not to think about the germs that touched all the utensils. The only interesting thing on their breakfast menu was the sausage and cheese omelette. It was barely edible with the eggshells in my omelette but I was hungry so I ate it. I liked the hash browns but the wheat toast was a waste, I saw piles of uneaten wheat toast in the garbage. What do they have against white toast? Or consider sourdough? What pissed me off, though, is when they called my number and demanded for my ticket number. Keep in mind I was starving and the tall pumpkin spice latte(from Starbucks) I downed in 30 seconds made me jittery. Then they said they didn’t have my order. Uhhh… where is it then??? Did they give it to someone else? Why didn’t they demand for his/her ticket number? Maybe it was a hottie. Whatever. I just ate my crunchy omelette. At least it’s cheap and convenient, right?! Who am I kidding? It sucked and I don’t want to go back!

This is the place you’re looking for if you want to pig out and study. Warm atmosphere, friendly staff, large portions of food. There’s no way I would come here on a regular basis though. The homeless shelter quality makes up for the portion size. Very solid 3 stars

I’m not a big fan of breakfast, but this place is great for breakfast: D It’s right across from SJSU and it’s a nice place for breakfast and lunch! I usually come here and order the 2 eggs & bacon and it comes with hashbrown and toast :) The sandwiches here are quite yummy too! The price is super reasonable and super big portions! The workers here are friendly too! The place is sort of old and small — super busy with college students coming in for breakfast and lunch, but the line to order and to get your food is fast. Also, CASHONLY!

I come to Peanuts about once a year and I’ve had everything from their sandwiches, burgers, and breakfast options. The appeal to Peanuts is the low prices, huge servings, and the atmosphere of the place. So I get why people like it, cause I like those things about Peanuts too, but I don’t think the place deserves 4 stars on Unilocal. The reason for a low rating is that the quality of the food and the ingredients are one notch low of average. The ingredients taste cheap and like it came from a generic brand from a grocery store. With that being said, eating at Peanuts is not for the sake of treating your taste buds, but for satisfying your hunger and saving a few bucks. The 4 stars Peanuts has is attributable to price and portion size, and it’s obvious in all the 4 – 5 star reviews here, which contain minimal to no mentioning of the actual quality of the food. If price and portion size were not a factor of rating then this place would be somewhere between 1.5 to 2.5 stars.

Inexpensive food, nonexistent customer service, and the tables and shakers need to be cleaned. I ordered a plate of Polish sausage, sunny side eggs, hash browns, and toast. The first thing I noticed when I received my food was that they automatically assumed I wanted wheat toast; I was never asked what type of toast I wanted. The sausage was very basic tasting, almost like it came from a package of sausage you can buy for $ 6 at Safeway. The eggs and toast were prepared properly, however, the hash browns were very mushy. After I sat down at the bar to eat, I reached for salt and pepper shakers and noticed they were filthy. There was a mixture of grease and dust that collected on top of each shaker and was never cleaned. Regarding the restroom, there’s a lock on the door that doesn’t work(you lock it, it feels locked, but people can still walk in on you). The ordering process is a mess. And, since none of the employees acknowledge you when you walk in, first-time customers aren’t sure what to do. Moreover, none of the staff will speak to you unless they’re asked a question, even when you sit near them at the bar. Even though the food is inexpensive, I don’t think I’ll ever return to Peanuts Deluxe Café.

I can’t even count how many times I have eaten here through my undergrad and grad school career at SJSU! Everytime I eat here, it always tastes the same as the first time I ate here so that special moment alone is enough for me! Anyways DIRTYDONOVANLIFEADVICE! 1) CASHONLY… you go to the back counter and tell the chefs your order. They will scribble something on your ticket. You bring the ticket to Minh(the owner) and he’ll ring you up. You can grab drinks or ask Minh if you want beers! 2) HAPPYHOUR… popular spot for college students and it can get rowdy on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Super cheap beer, they always have sports on, and the jukebox is playing loud music. If you’re looking for a quiet meal in the afternoon, I suggest taking your food to go! 3) My Favorite dishes… beef teriyaki and rice, chicken-cheese steak sandwich, and the omelettes. Nothing here cost more then $ 7! Don’t forget to bus your own table… it’s just the way it’s always been! Honestly, I appreciate Peanuts so much, they have consistently served huge portions for cheap. Any SJSU student can appreciate that. It’s a hole in the wall and it’s a dive and it’s a filling meal! They put their own flavors and make the food their own. Peanuts is good for a quick study break, hangover breakfast, or post workout meal. FANFORLIFE!
