Chris has started working for Toyota since 1979 became lead mechanic. He opened C & T automotive in 1985. Now 28 years later C & T automotive is the premier independent Toyota, Lexus and Scion specialists on the peninsula. I didn’t actually bring my vehicle to the shop, but I did call to have a mechanical question answered. The person that answered the phone was very friendly, and actually took the time to walk through some Google images with me to get a better understanding of my question. In the end, he was able to answer my question and provide a thorough explanation of what was going on.

C & T Toyota repair is my favorite type of business — great service, great price without a hint of the scammy vibe you receive at any other repair shops. I would highly recommend Chris and his team for any Toyota owner needing repairs or scheduled maintenance over a Toyota dealership.
C & T expertly diagnosed break issues I was experiencing with my RAV4 and conducted some routine maintenance (synthetic oil change, tire inspection, etc). The price was very good — $ 120 all in.
One particular example from this service demonstrates C & T’s trustworthiness: I had previously had my oil changed at Jiffy Lube or something and experienced the usual ‘dirty air filter’ racket. After inspecting my air filter, Chris informed me it had 40% left in it and did not recommend replacing at this time. Thank you for not playing this game!

I rarely write reviews but you really cant ignore this kind of service. Chris is amazing. He is the most honest and reliable mechanic out there. He is the opposite of a crook. He really wants to help solve the issues with your car instead of charging you an arm and a leg figuring it out. You never have to cringe on the day you pick up your car thinking how much this is going to put you back in debt.
He really knows how to build rapport with customers and gain their trust by giving you the best service you will ever receive. There is no way I would ever take my Toyota anywhere else. Mechanics reading this take notes, that is how you make and keep customers.
I have been having issues with my engine light coming on every 2 months for quite some time and Chris has been working very hard on solving the issues for some time now, and he is dedicated to helping fix my car. I trust that he is doing his best to figure out the issues. I can’t stress enough how amazing this kind of service is. I have never experienced anything like it.
You will not find better service from a mechanic in the bay area.

I am very glad that I have found C & T. Chris is one in a million. I have been taking my car to Chris for the last 9years. He is honest and will not do or charge you for something that doesn’t need to be done. It is hard these days especially for a female to find a good auto mechanic that you can trust. My car will be on the road because of C & T for many years to come. I must also give kudos to the mechanics that also keep the shop running. One is always treated with respect.

Had another good experience. To save some money on my Tacoma’s 120k service, I did a couple things myself (coolant and spark plugs/​wires). Took it into Chris for the rest and he helped finish up the rest of it for a great price. He even double-​checked my work to make sure I did it right. I will certainly be returning for more Toyota work.

I have brought my 1991 MR2 Turbo to Chris and his crew more than a few times now. I’m not much of a wrencher and Chris gives it to me straight and fixes it up quick. It’s nice to know a fellow MR2 enthusiast is working on my car as he owns a white MK1 that’s usually parked outside.
The techs are friendly and do good work. I’ll continue to bring my MR2 to Chris as I am always pleased with the results him and his crew produce.

I have been going to C&T since I was fresh faced and new to California. Ages. Chris is great, respectful and straight talking. I usually feel stressed about taking my car anywhere, but C&T is different. They are on your side, and it’s a nice change. Now that I live in Oakland, it’s harder to get back there, but I still manage it and whenever I go somewhere else I am reminded of how wonderful C&T is. Miss you guys!

I took my car in because the check engine light was on. They were able to find the problem quickly; it was caused by a disconnected tube. Because it was an easy fix, they didn’t charge me for the service. I believe that this incident demonstrates the integrity of C&T automotive, and I will be taking my car in to them for service in the future.

I’m kind of bummed. I was going to post about my high mileage and how Chris has kept my 99 Landcruiser on the road since it was a tot… now I read that ALL of you have high mileage cars thanks to Chris. Good for him… bad for my dramatic post. I did just complete a round trip to Colorado in my gas-​beast with a meager 212,000 miles on the ODO. Every mile I dedicate to Chris and the fine folks at C + T!

Reading the other Unilocal reviews on this page 1) lets me know I’m not the only person who got special attention… Chris, you sneaky thing. 2) there are lots of idiots out there like me who have abused their vehicle in the mountains and found sanctuary in C&T Automotive.
This place really IS «as good as it gets» when it comes to autobody repair shops.
I can only assume that owner/​manager Chris Harter wrote the book on everything Toyota, Lexus and Scion and simultaneously shattered any stereotypes you might have held about pocket-​gouging body shops.
Honest Chris, as I call him, welcomed my near-​totalled Rav4 without judgement or dirty looks and guided me through his repair process with comfort and ease. My Rav4 was fixed with a quality engine, (and not the first engine that became available, you see, Chris is an engine connoisseur) and I was back on the road (back on the road, guys, the car was undriveable) in a few, short days.
I whole-​heartedly recommend C&T Automotive and wish the team there much more future success. Not that they need any aid from me. Thanks again.

Chris and the folks at C+T do a couple of things surprisingly well. First, they communicate and interact with customers in a professional manner. Second, the genuinely look out for your best interests. All car repairs seem costly. What makes the C+T team stand out is that you can bring it in and forget about it. They will do what needs to be done at a reasonable price in a way that is as painless as possible.

This may be my first update of an update review. I believe it is warranted.
I booked a 15k service for my car and also asked Chris to take a look at my power antenna for repair. While going through a car wash back in June or July I was uncharacteristically out of it and left the radio on while in the car wash. That night I went to my car at a very late hour and thought it had been pulled out and vandalized. Then it dawned on me exactly what had happened. Boy, did I feel schtoopid. The antenna worked just fine, except it didn’t go in all the way and stuck out about five inches. I didn’t like that.
I had the 15k service and Chris ordered a new antenna mast. He graciously offered to replace the mast at cost with no labor charge. Wow! I was really happy and that is just one reason why I take my car to Chris. I’ve owned four Toyotas and Chris has worked on three of them. I trust him and he never talks down to me being a ‘chick’ who knows nothing about cars. He and his team are always professional and courteous.
My antenna works perfectly and I can just move on from this little incident.

Chris (owner) is honest, detailed, reliable, to the point service advisor and business owner. I have a 1994 Toyota Camry which has 200k miles and has been taken well good care by Chris and his team. My car drives very well! I had my check engine light diagnosed by two other repair shops and they haven’t solved the problem until I brought my car to Chris. He had solved the check engine light in the initial visit.
PROS: Uses quality, genuine Toyota parts at a reasonable price, service done right and has not misdiagnosed, prioritizes repairs needed most attention first, friendly/​repectful/​honest shop
CONS: Bit of a drive for me, but worth the driving distance, not much of a waiting area, does not open on the weekends.
I always leave the repair shop extremely satisfied knowing that I can drive my car with a piece of mind with getting your money’s worth. I would highly recommend C&T Automotive for your Toyota needs. They have always exceeded my expectations! So thank you Chris and team!
