Specialties

Join us for lunch in the café and watch our cheesemakers at work. We serve up hot paninis, soups and our «World’s Best» Mac & Cheese from open to close. From our cheese counter, you can pick up any one of Beecher’s award-winning cheeses or choose from our variety of American artisanal cheeses, all made west of the Mississippi, including a large selection straight from the Pacific Northwest.

History

Established in 2003.

In 2003, Kurt Beecher Dammeier combined his love of great cheese with his passion for pure food and Beecher’s Handmade Cheese was born. Located in the heart of Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market, Beecher’s uses the time-tested method of open-vat cheesemaking, combining a 5,000 year old craft with a 21st century commitment to quality and purity. Beecher’s cheeses are handcrafted right in the Market, using premium milk from a local dairies of Holstein and Jersey cows that have not been treated with bovine growth hormones. Nothing artificial is added to the cheese, making it a authentic, original product.

Beecher’s contributes 1% of all sales to the Pure Food Kids Foundation, founded by Beecher’s in 2004 to empower kids to make healthy food choices for life.

Meet the Business Owner

Kurt D.

Business Owner

A cheese lover since childhood, I remember encouraging my mother to buy artisan cheese at a time when processed cheese was overtaking the market; and I recall my great-grandfather, whose first name was Beecher, purchasing Stilton by the wheel.

In 2002, I was walking through Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market and noticed that a long-time tenant had closed up shop. Inspired, I called the landlord, returned to my office and announced we were going into the cheesemaking business. With fond memories of my grandfather and his wheels of Stilton, it was a natural fit to name the business Beecher’s Handmade Cheese.
