Mt. Townsend Creamery

We ended up buying one of the samplers for $ 5.50. It wasn’t worth it. You’ll get three one ounce cubes of cheese and they are nothing to write home about. If you do buy cheese, taste it first! I hate not being able to give a rave review because the person trying to help us was very knowledgable and accommodating, she was just there by herself and unable to address everyone’s needs in a timely manner.

I was waiting and waiting to sample cheese ALL through Pike Place. So, when I saw Mt. Townsend, I made a beeline for it — and it didn’t disappoint!
I ended up purchasing a wheel of their Off Kilter Scotch Ale Washed Toma. (Inspired by the nautical traditions of the Salish Sea, Off Kilter combines the earthy flavors of our Red Alder with Pike Brewing Company’s Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale. The semi-​soft body and sweet finish come as a result of frequent beer washes in our fine aging facility.)
It was on sale for $ 6 (normally $ 10), so I couldn’t resist. Normally that’s a lot for cheese, but I figured I was supporting a local creamery. And I believe the brewery is right behind the creamery? So, supporting 2 local places in 1!
Anyway. The cheese was DELISH, so I couldn’t help but purchase the wheel. And apparently their Jack is rated the best in the country? I believe it — it was fantastic.
The Scotch Ale DID taste different once I arrived back home. Maybe behind unrefrigerated and flying changed it? Or maybe I just remembered it different? It was still good, just not as strong/​fantastic as I remembered. :(
Either way. I’d definitely purchase from them in the future, if I lived near Seattle! And I MAY just purchase some online!

I love great cheese and Mt. Townsend Creamery’s is the bomb. It’s so much better than store bought! But I must confess, half of the reason I buy cheese at the Broadway Sunday Farmer’s Market each week is to see their beautiful cheese vendor;-) Delicious on all counts!!!

Nice little shop in the market. I think they’ve been there about a year and they are located close to De Laurenti’s. Sampled some cheese and ended up making a purchase. Great customer service, friendly and knowledge staff. Give them a hello and stop by when you are walking through the market next time. They’ve got several cheeses out to try.

Lovely little shop that’s located at the front entrance in a little nook to your left across from the fish. They are small, and they only carry a handful of cheeses. They are generous with their sample sizes, and once you sample you will most definitely buy.
I purchased a small wheel of the Truffle Stack and the same for the Cirrus. Both were great and held up well on the flight home. I was able to enjoy them for the next few days on crackers, in sandwiches, and melted on top of meatballs in marinara.
Mt. Townsend is unique in that they care about the quality and taste of their products as well as their customers and the service they provide them. Unfortunately, I lost a couple photos of Mt Townsend Creamery from my camera so please do remember to take photos when you go and add to this Unilocal page!

This is a great place to sample, and a great business. While its a great new addition to Pike Market, and I recommend stopping by, I have to say the selection is limited to just 7 – 8 cheeses.
I love the idea of shopping local, and supporting local businesses, and here you can buy direct from the producer, which is the original idea behind Pike Market.

Just a tiny storefront next to Market Spice, Mt Townsend Creamery always has at least four cheeses out to sample and I have not walked away empty handed yet! After becoming acquainted with them at the Seattle Cheese festival, I’m so excited that I could sample a different local cheese every time I’m at Pike Place!
Most recently, I walked away with an 8oz spreadable, truffle flavored Fromage Blanc for $ 5, not a bad price for such a tasty cheese!
Service is always friendly and knowledgeable, they even have a frequent buyer card that I’m sure I’ll be filling up in no time flat.

We bought a round of Trufflestack and when we got home with it everyone loved it and it was gone in just a few short minutes! Prices were less than what you’d expect for a higher end cheese.

I LOVE Mt. Townsend’s camembert cheese. It’s mild and creamy like a brie, and is divine warmed and spread on a crostini (tip: I add a fresh grated sweet apple slaw to garnish). When I discovered it at a restaurant, I drove 4 hours roundtrip to Port Townsend just to buy a $ 7 wheel of it. Now I feel pretty silly seeing as how they have a booth in the market. But hey, that’s love. I can’t wait to wander down and try more!

I’d never heard of Mt. Townsend Creamery until I saw their booth in the market. It’s got a great location, and they always have yummy free samples available. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, but they don’t even need to be, because the cheese is amazing! The Trufflestack is probably my favorite, creamy and with a pungent undertone, but on another day I’d probably go for the New Moon, which is almost a cross between cheese and butter — so rich and delicious. And the Fromage Blanc might well be the best spreadable cheese I’ve ever had (though I wish it weren’t so crumbly).
I stop in their booth every time I’m in the market, and I always come away with something irresistible.

OMG, I am soo excited to discover that they have a store. I have been buying their New Moon cheese for years at the Ballard farmers market, so I am excited there is a place I can get the cheese at any day of the week. I recently discovered that their new moon cheese is amazing melted in a quesadilla. It is also great just eating it freshly sliced. I have not visited the actual store yet, so I cannot review the actual store. However, I couldn’t imaging it being bad considering they have excellent cheese:) Will be visiting sometime soon.

I stopped and tried the Camembert. It was great, just the right ripeness. They sold me a very small wheel to take home (7 $ plus tax). When we tried it the next day it was not even close to the one that they had out as a sample. It was far from ripe and soft, I ended up paying a premium for a cheese that was not at all like the one they had out to sample. I would not go there again and would not recommend them to anyone.

Came to find a couple of cheeses for a party. The guy who helped was very nice and seemed knowledgeable. He encouraged me to try as much as I wanted/​needed, which i did, and ended up with a jack and a brie. I’d say the selection isn’t great, there were only 10 or so options, and it was a bit pricy, but if I’m in the area, I’d either check here or the other cheese maker for good eats.

Mt. Townsend Creamery is the newest local cheese shop at Pike Place Market. It is located right by Pike Place Fish Market. In terms of size and selection, it is smaller in both regards to the stalwart at the market, Beecher’s.
Stopped by yesterday and was in luck. Turns out yesterday was their first real day of business. They had I would say maybe 7 or 8 cheese selections to choose from when I visited.
There were a couple selections of Jack cheeses along with several varieties of soft and spreadable cheeses. The soft and spreadable ones are the primary differentiators between Mt. Townsend and Beecher’s cheese selection. Beecher’s does not have any variety of these types of cheese.
I like that all cheeses already come pre-​packaged. It would just be too troublesome to sell it by the pound or in random sizes given the setup.
After trying the cheese samples, I decided to pick up two cheeses. The Off Kilter which combines Kilt Lifter Scotch Ale from Market neighbor, Pike Brewing and the limited edition Trufflestack which is a soft Brie-​like cheese with Italian black truffles and sea salt.
If you are looking to try a local cheese not named Beecher’s and/​or a fan of soft cheeses, I think a visit to Mt. Townsend Creamery is in order.
