Bulger Safe & Lock

I went to Bulger today to have keys cut for a mailbox and a front door. Neither key is unusual, yet the charge was $ 5 per key. Also, it took about 30 minutes to get the keys cut.
When I got home, I tried the new mailbox key and it immediately got stuck half way through the turn. I had to wiggle it out, but I got it. I then compared the new keys with the original one and saw they were cut wrong. I then tried to use the original key and it now got stuck in the same position. I called Bulger and spoke to a guy who said he was the Manager. I told him that the new keys were cut wrong, got stuck in the lock and now I can’t even use the original key. I asked him if he thought that it could be possible that using an incorrect key might have jammed something in the lock itself that would prevent the original key from working. He told me he didn’t know and that I should try to lubricate the lock. I said I would try it, but if it didn’t work, would they come out to the house and figure it out. He told me that they would charge me $ 200 to come out. I suggested to him that since the lock was working fine, then after using a key they cut incorrectly it was not working, that they might consider coming for free, or at least cutting the fee to fix the problem. He then got really hostile. He told me that he had a business to run and that if I wanted a locksmith to come to the house, I was going to pay for it. He accepted no responsibility and said that the only thing he would do is recut the keys if I brought them into the store. When I started to ask him what time the shop closed for the day, he hung up on me.
I will go buy a new mailbox before I’ll step foot in that shop again. And btw… while I was waiting 30 minutes for those keys, I was standing next to a guy who got his keys, checked them at the counter and found that the new key was longer than the original and needed to be fixed. That should have been my first clue to examine the keys before I left. I’ll be sure to do that in the future. But still, there is no excuse for anyone, let alone the Manager of the shop, to speak to someone like he spoke to me. It was clear he didn’t give a crap whether I ever came back or not.

Bulger does all the rekeys and duplicate keys for all our properties we sell. Always fast and very competitively priced. I have dealt with Jeff in the shop several times — great guy. He is very knowledgeable, always friendly, and you can tell he takes great pride in making sure every customer is satisfied. With something as important as securing your home or business, there is no other company I trust more than Bulger to get the job done. Thanks guys!

The lock on our door to our preschool was not allowing us to open the door from the outside and we were going crazy trying to figure out what was going on! We called a few different locksmiths, and many of them quoted us nearly $ 1k to fix it. Bulger came and fixed it for less than what a meal at McDonalds costs. It was absolutely amazing and we will definitely be using their business in the future, should we need to!

Bulger has serviced our 24 unit condo building on Boylston for some years. They have NEVER done anything right. Nothing they install works right. We paid them to replace our 1930 ornate brass hardware. They put in a cheap crooked strike plate that doesn’t fit the jamb and doesn’t keep the door closed — and then THEY STOLE OUR ORIGINAL HARDWARE which was easily worth $ 1,000 if not more.
Bulger can’t even install something as simple as a door closer. We have to call them back every month or two to «repair» what they screwed up before, and they always charge us for these service calls.
I will resign from my HOA board, of which I’m currently President, if our building manager or our board ever uses Bulger again. Incompetent, rude, sloppy work and workmen.

I’d like to make a nice review about a local business, but I just cannot. Not only were they unable to make a copy of my key, when I asked for a suggestion in the area to one man– another interrupted and said «No. We don’t know anyone else.» Like, geez guy. How do you not know your competition? And if you do, why be so selfish about helping somebody else out with something that you cannot assist them with?

Over twenty five dollars for two keys. We had no choice but to use them because they have the copy rights to the front door of our condo building. Great way to build customer loyalty; take advantage of a situation. Will never use this place again. Two stars because the keys worked.

My husband bought me a pink transponder key online, and after shopping around and hearing the prices, I came across this place. I called before going in, just to make sure that they could do it, which they could at a great price. So I headed down from Everett to get my key cut. Everything went very well until, the guy came back with my pink key, telling me something had went wrong while cutting it, where it would not work like normal. He went on saying how sorry he was, and being very apologetic (which was nice) and that he could either 1. Order me a new pink key on them. or 2. make me a new key it would be just plain. I went with #2. He made the key free of charge and made me a lockout key too :) THAT WAS SO AWESOME! of him :) even with knowing I did not have the key I ordered, the Customer Service was great that I did not even care, I even purchased something else from them. I would diffidently go back. The Customer Service and friendliness was right on point. :) :)

Really professional and fast working people. I have a moving company and one of our drivers broke key. This guys fix it in no time and charged me only $ 8!!! 5star for your friendliness and professionalism.

These guys are the true professionals on all levels. They know their technologies and products and get the job done right. And if anything goes wrong, as it sometimes can, they behave with the customer’s interests in the front. I like it.

If you have Bulger come to your house for a job, keep a record of the time they spend performing the work requested and ask for an itemized receipt. I received an unitemized receipt with only a round number, $ 500, for parts and labor. I had to call several times before I finally received an itemized receipt. They charged me for 75 minutes of labor when they actually spent 40 minutes doing the labor. I asked for a refund for the difference and they said they would send a check the next day. I’m still waiting. The bottom line is they should give you an itemized estimate in writing BEFORE they come out to do the work.

This lock smith is exceedingly professional. They do all the lock work for our 9 buildings. They have never not been able to fix a lock for us. They are wonderful. Use them with the utmost confidence.

I needed to make copies of my apartment keys and Bulger is walking distance from my work. I came in, gave them my keys and picked the Seahawks keys for them to make the copies out of. Minutes later I had my new keys and paid a reasonable price for their services.
I tried out the new set of keys when I got home later that day and to my complete and total surprise they worked perfectly. Who would have thought?! Oh, right… I thought that.
I’m super happy with the service and products I received from Bulger and will definitely use them in the future if I need to have keys made.
I’m a fan.

Lost my motorcycle keys, which if you dont know, is its own personal hell. Dealership with the key codes doesnt exist anymore, so I removed my ignition. removed the ‘key-​interface’ from the ignition and brought it to bulmers. 2 hours and an alarmingly low 35 dollars later I had two new keys (molded from my ignition), and some much needed peace of mind. Couldn’t be any happier.

Had them put in a latch on my garden door. Cost me ridiculously 300 dollars for a tiny latch, and it didn’t even work right after 2 days of rain. When I called them to have them reinstall it, they actually claimed that it was not the latch’s fault and it’s my garden door that was bad quality. Therefore they said the 90-​days warranty doesn’t apply. Horrible money-​sucking company. Don’t use them.

The old guy tried to charge me 45 dollars for a latch, and asked for 240 dollars for installing 2 steel plates on my door. I realized why they call BURGLAR & safe lock.
I guess they are actually good at burglarizing and blackmailing their customer instead of making people’s home feel safe.

These guys charged me over $ 5 for one tiny mailbox key and I get home and it doesn’t even work. I asked if they could just reverse the charge on my credit card rather than trek all the way back out to them and they said no. I looked at the keys when I got home and there is an obvious part that does not match on them. I wouldn’t have thought I would have to visually check the keys before leaving a locksmith.

Pull up 10 minutes after they close, door locked. Guy comes lets me in and makes 6 copies of keys for me. Wow! Certainly a 5 star experience in my book. Well done gents!

I’ve used Bulger Safe & Lock several times. They know their locks, show up on time and are very professional. They’ve installed locks at several residences and have always been able to explain the different locks and pros and cons of each. They are the only ones I call!

So I have a Subaru that has a type of key that’s really fond of breaking.
My key broke. Get on the 372, had down to Bulger, and show them the key. It has a key code on it, so easy peasy replication, but I did have the whole key!
The gentleman made me 2 new keys, out of much harder stock, for a pittance.
I’ve worked at a number of places that only trust their locks to Bulger. I think I get why given that they saved my butt at minimal cost and provided the best of service to a tiny need.
Thanks. I’ll be back the next time I need a key copy, because I’d rather pay a little more for professional work than trust crap hardware store keys.

We use them for a variety of issues at work. Always excellent service.
Most recently an issue around «clickers» for one property had us going in circles. Mike at Bulger was just on the ball and kept me up to date on the arrival of the order so I could get it in person and end the madness we were dealing with at one of our properties.
It later turned out that miscommunication on another side gave him and I bad info on what we needed from the start, but even realizing all the work I did and the rush Mike did for me was for naught, I have no regrets that they are our preferred vendor for all things locks and clickers.
Just superb service overall from a great locally owned shop.

Incredible. Was sent here by Aurora Suzuki to see about getting a new key for my motorcycle. Pulled off my ignition, bussed in, and left Bulger with two new keys at half their original quote! (⁷⁵⁄₄₀).

Bulger was the developer’s installer of the locks on my historic townhouse restoration project in Capitol Hill. The reference to use them came from the management company of the homeowners association.
Buger sent Adam out last August, to «unstick» the historic front door lock that had recently been rekeyed (by Bulger, for the developer). Despite Bulger’s having performed the original work, I was charged an additional $ 180. to oil the lock and cut two new keys. The lock was working when the tech left.
This winter, when temperatures went down to the 30s, those new keys and the lock have failed again (January 2013). I called Bulger with the August invoice information last Monda. No response for days until I contacted the owner (Mike) who said he wouldn’t honor any work on historic home locks. I asked that Adam come back out and fix the problem again anyway. Still no site visit to fix problem and I can’t use my front door. TERRIBLE customer service and follow up!!!

I brilliantly locked myself out of my apartment while my fiancé was away and my landlord’s office was closed because it was the weekend. Bulger Safe & Lock was recommended to me, but they weren’t open yet so I just went online to get someone to come out fast. Sure enough, found a bunch of «local» guys who would come out for only $ 15 in the next 30 minutes to see what the situation was and how much it would cost — definitely too good to be true.
It ended up being a local number that redirected to a call center, and when they sent out the local guy he was extremely sketchy. He car’s back window was blown out, his side-​view mirrors were busted off, and there was a magnet decal saying «locksmith» on the side of it. He took one look at my lock (only the bottom handle was locked mind you, not the deadbolt) and said that he could try and pick it but this brand is very hard and would most likely need to drill, which seemed odd to me. He also wanted to charge me $ 200.
I happily sent this guy on his way with his $ 20 (he didn’t have the $ 5 in change conveniently) and now that Bulger’s was open I called them up and a man named Dennis was sent out in about 2 hours. When I asked about potentially drilling the lock on my handle they asked me «why would we ever need to do that?». Yes I waited a little longer, but Dennis showed up in a branded work van and dressed in a uniform. Not only was he extremely nice and knowledgeable, but the time between him looking at my door to the time when I was in my apartment was without exaggerating about 30 seconds. Oh and did I mention it only cost 99 $ and I didn’t need to replace anything?
Don’t do what I did initially, learn from my mistake and just go with Bulger from the start.

My house was burlgarized a few days ago. In broad day light, the asshole (s) punch a hole through double layered window on the side of my front door. They reached in and opened the door and screen door, then walked away with jewelries, electonics, and personal documents.
The police suggested a deadbolt that requires a key on both ends. I contacted these guys and scheduled for a tech to come and change out the lock. The technication was professional, came during the scheduled time frame, installed the lock and cleaned up afterwards.
If I have locks issues, these will be the first place I’ll call.
