First, my list of adjectives:
Fast, affordable, quality, experienced, knowledgeable.
Steve did amazing work on a wall in our home that had cracking and bowing. He gave us a quick and fair estimate, and was extremely knowledgeable about the «what» and «why» of plaster. The end result was nothing short of magic, the ugly deformed wall was transformed into a pristine surface that matched the textures of the other wall perfectly. He also repaired all the small holes in the room left by picture frames and whatnot.
TLDR: If you have plaster problems, this is the guy to call.

Steve did a great job filling in the holes in our plaster walls after we had some electrical work done. He also finished under budget, which is always a plus. We’ll definitely hire him again if we need to repair any plaster in the future!

Steve is an artist with plaster as his medium. We have an old home that had many layers of wallpaper in several rooms, little did we know when we took the wallpaper off that it had been covering all the imperfections in the plaster. Steve gave us a bid for the bedrooms and to patch some electrical holes. He did such a great job and within the time and $ estimate that about a year later we called him back to fix the living and dining rooms (again, working quicker and less than the original bid). It has made such a difference and makes our walls look like new. Totally recommend him!

I’ve just been looking through a couple of my old reviews and wanted to update this one. Steve did come and basically refinish plastering the rest of our 1909 home and it is a highlight (along with Justin Busch’s wonderful finish carpentry) of the house. He worked efficiently and graciously to coordinate work with the rest of the contractors in the house and we are again thrilled with his work. It’s been finished for four years now, and new visitors still comment on our beautiful plaster work.

we recently bought an old home that had a lot of crackles and repairs needed due to natural aging. By the time Steve left, the plaster was incredible smooth to the touch. We were blown away by the improvements to the room. He was incredibly considerate to our home, leaving it spotless despite doing a job that can be so dusty and potential for mess.

Fantastic prices. Fantastic work. Fantastic knowledge about the different types of plaster and the things that ail them. The work was done promptly and they were exceedingly careful to clean up after themselves. As far as I’m concerned, there is no other «plaster guy» in Seattle. My only disappointment is I wish I’d taken before and after. Highly recommended.

Dear Seattle… you have plaster. You have it all over your houses. People will try to tell you to tear it out and put in drywall. They’ll tell you that because of course you can’t possibly repair plaster. «No one does that anymore.» And they’ll try to charge you an arm and a leg to rip it out and put in drywall.
You don’t need to do that. You need to hire Steve.
When I bought my house it was nothing but UGLY wood paneling but the house had good bones. One day we pulled down the wood paneling and we found that it had been poorly glued on top of otherwise good plaster. The glue damaged the plaster a bit and there were a few holes in the walls that needed to be repaired. This was for most of the house… living room, dining room, bathroom, hall to basement.
Steve did an amazing job. The walls look great. Numerous people have commented that the texture of the walls is perfect. Not only that but they’ve held up perfectly as well. He also did a coat of some kind of cool thing over the ugly brick façade of my fireplace to make it look much more clean and beautiful.
Not only does he do good work but he cleans everything up better than any other contractor I’ve ever had. In fact when we asked him to leave down the floor plastic in the living room so we could paint he had a really hard time doing it since it was covered in plaster dust. «No, we really want you to… you did a much better job taping off the floor than we’d EVER do.» He did it but begrudgingly… he really wanted to leave the place perfect!
Give this guy a call. He does great work, it’s beyond affordable (a LOT less than you think) and done on time.
I’m not sure what else I can say about him but there’s absolutely NOTHING negative I’d say about his work. It was truly a pleasure working with him. I wish every contractor experience was so positive!

Steve Irish is a master of his craft, and it was a pleasure to see the before and after. He adjusted his work dates when I ran into a scheduling conflict, and his job came in under the estimate. He patched 75 holes made by electricians and then fixed crumbling walls in three separate rooms. All in two long days. This is the kind of contracting experience you’re hoping for: meticulous, punctual, and reasonable in price.

We found Steve through Unilocal and based on his five star ratings we entrusted him to help us with the repair of a bedroom wall and to restore the coved ceiling in the breakfast nook in our 1920’s Craftsman home.
As with most other reviews, he came in at a competitive bid and did not ask more than the proposed amount. Within one day, he and his partner completed the work within the parameters of what he described he would accomplish. They did an incredible job! Steve made the contours of the plaster work in the nook area look seamless and original to the home. A true craftsman, he flawlessly corrected the 9×13 scar that covered the lathe and plaster bedroom wall and make it look completely cohesive with the remaining walls.
I have referred him to friends and will definitely call him again for future projects.

In my job looking after a 100 year old church building on Capitol Hill, I hire many vendors. Steve Irish/​Lux Interiors is my new my favorite vendor. When we first met, I was impressed with the depth of his knowlege of his craft, and his understanding of what was going on with our building. We were impressed by his work; the first project he did for us was a 9’x16’ repair in an easy to reach spot, and a difficult one above some stairs. This was a test before the BIG JOB, which came 2 years later: an interior of a dome, 40 feet in the air, which Steve and his able assistant completed from a bucket high atop the arm a specialzed lift. Steve and co learned how to operate the lift, we did not have to hire scaffolding or a lift operator, saving the church a ton of money. As wonderful as Steve’s work is, the really good news is, you get to work with Steve. He is easygoing, reliable, no BS kind of craftsman. Everything we talked about, he performed, and I did not need to remind him. Ever. Everything he touched exceeded expectations. I wish I could find a plumber and an electrician like him. Steve, any more at home like you?

I’ve had Steve over a number of times to fix many cracks and blisters, and repair two ceilings. He is always on time, does excellent work, and is a great guy to work with. I plan to keep using Steve, and I recommend him without question.

There is simply nothing I could say to even remotely dissuade someone from working with Steve. I don’t imagine there’s anyone better at this kind of work anywhere in Seattle. We had some massive holes in our 1940s-​era rock lath and plaster walls after replacing all of the old knob and tube wiring. Steve provided a straight-​forward and amazingly affordable bid (especially when you take into account how seriously this guy takes his work and some of the people/​businesses who’ve hired him around town). He was great about working with our other contractors to ensure that what he needed from them and vice versa was well communicated.
He swept in right before the holidays, put in a massive 12-​hour day to patch up the holes before we left town, and didn’t leave hardly a speck of dust in his wake. I wish I could show pictures of his work, but the fact that you simply cannot distinguish where the holes were from the rest of our intact walls is testament enough to how good he is at what he does. Even our painter said he’d never seen such a good patch job before.
Oh, and did I mention that when we got back from our trip, we were greeted by an invoice that came in WELL UNDER Steve’s original bid on the job? I only wish that we had something more complicated to have Steve design/​work on because this guy is the real deal.

Steve was referred to us by our realtor as we are fixing up our house to put on the market in the next year. We live in a 1913 house with lathe and plaster throughout and the upstairs hallway and bedrooms were a mess with cracks and everything you could imagine — it was beyond what I wanted to tackle.
Steve provided a timely estimate with a fair price and completed the work while were out of town on vacation, it looks great.
He mentioned the ceilings and this project were one of the most difficult he has come across but even though he exceeded the amount of labor to complete the job he honored his estimate and didn’t bill us for any overage. How nice is that?

Steve did a fantastic job repairing a gazillion electrical holes in our 1922 house, following a big electrical upgrade we did, as well as repairing a variety of cracks and some failing ceiling plaster. He fit the work into our vacation schedule so it was all done and perfectly cleaned up when we arrived home. Very easy to communicate with and super professional results. Came in under bid. We’ll definitely be calling him again.

Steve did an excellent job re-​plastering several ceiling areas of my older home. Not only was he exactly on time every day, but he he finished early and under estimate! He is an artist, matching almost exactly the 1923 large knockdown finish in the dining room. He explained to me the process, educated me on the old techniques and was meticulous with his daily cleanup and final finish. This is the second time in 2 years I have called Steve to address plaster issues with my remodel.
Last year, he put a veneer coat of plaster over new veneer board on all the walls and ceiling of my first story. He did a great job, especially considering the poorly hung veneer board. Even with some pretty serious movement and vibration from construction in other parts of the house, this plaster has remained pristine.
This year, I hired him to fill and level patches of missing plaster where we moved windows, plaster over 1 wall of veneer board, and put a veneer coat with fiberglass mesh over all of the old, cracked, lumpy, ugly plaster on my second story. It looks brand new, and with the fiberglass mesh, it will stay that way!
Steve is very accommodating with budgets. He made many recommendations for ways to make the job less expensive, he allowed me to help out in small ways to save some of his time, and he has actually come in UNDER his bid both times. Since every other contractor I have used likes to under-​bid and then present me with a much higher bill, this is a nice change! It also saved me money on the second story after he told me last year that I didn’t have to take down all the lathe and plaster that was full of holes from the remodel – he can fix anything!
Take my advice and call him before you decide what to do with your damaged plaster; the answer will probably surprise you. You will love the result, the price, and not having to take down the lathe and plaster!
